I am only upset about this because of Kevin's injury
Beno’s been playing well, let’s hope he’s got his game back full time.

I support it
I think that’s the best starting line-up that can be put on the floor. I’m assuming and hoping that Casspi is the first guy off the bench.

Who the hell else do we bring in?
We’ve already lost our two best scorers for like half the year.

I don't mind either. He doesn't have the pressure on him like last year.
I think he’s officially his good pre-signing self, which is a good thing.

I was reckoning this would happen.
They can just adjust the backcourt defensive assignments as needed—similar to what they might have done with Martin anyways.
I also thing that depending on matchups they could have Omri defend the two spot and play two SFs (Noc and Omri, I’d assume—maybe some Udoka to spell either or if tough D is prescribed). This will probably mean that Sergio and Donte are gonna see 8-10 minutes a game more than with Martin.

The only question
is who Beno is going to cover. D. Williams? Nah. Brewer? Hmmm, pick your poison.
I predict a lot of help defense will be necessary and Okur will make at least four three pointers and have a big game.
Not that I really see much of an option. They say Casspi is not well suited to play the 2, but this is the game where he hopefully gets a shot to conquer that assumption. I’d feel a lot better with him covering Brewer and Tyreke working on Williams, and I think getting the ball to Nocioni and Hawes earlier in the shot clock can help a bit with the ball movement.
Sergio will get some PT, but I think Ronnie Price is going to be licking his chops over that matchup of backup PGs.
I remain optimistic that this Kings team will surprise us, even with Kevin sitting out.

I'd think Beno will cover Brewer
I think he’ll do fine, Brewer doesn’t impress me.

Many here seem to think that any points at all scored on Beno is a failure
Most of the guys in this league can score no matter who is on them. Thats been especially true if that person is wearing purple (unfortunately).
Still, I think Beno has been pretty pesky and fairly solid on D this year.

I think Brewer is better than most people realize
But it’s not like Beno would be trying to guard LeBron.

Beno is ok against guys with average speed
But every team is beating us off of picks and not man to man. So, it’s really the bigs that have to step it up more than Beno. We could have Parker & Paul playing on our team and they’d get beat the way our bigs play the pick & roll.

Always a good idea to make the other team use its fifth option to try and beat you.

Can Udoka pick up the offensive & defensive sets in such a short time?
I can’t imagine that he gets anything other than end of quarter, defensive minutes.
I’d think that Omri would be a better fit to spell Tyreke, or to play when Sergio spells Beno while Tyreke is on the bench. This is going to mean that Greene is going to have to step up.

The next time we can rely on Donte will be the first time. He was making crybaby tweets last week. Now is his chance to be a man. I have more confidence in Udoka.

Our new offense is...
throw the shot near the hoop and hope JT gets it. And JT don’t miss your two inch lay-up too badly so Hawesome will get it.
Our new defense is “please miss, kind sir”. PW will be employing the cordial gentlemen defensive strategy.

I think Omri and Udoka are the first 2 smalls off the bench
I think Sergio only plays if he subs for Evans because we can’t have 2 non shooters on the floor at the same time with Martin out

Start Greene at the 2!
And we could have one of the tallest starting line-ups in sactown history. We are going to lose regardless, might as well start the Donte as a 2 experiment now.

Omri at the 2 Greene at the 3
Hawes 7’1" center
JT 6’11" PF
Donte 6’11" SF
Omri 6’9" SG
Tyreke 6’6" PG
That’s a Tall line-up

Move JT to point and put in May at PF….you do’t have to sribble just throw it over the top of everybody.

We would have to sribble because we'd have no D for their PG?

Benefactor?
I wonder if Udrih’s extra minutes winds up benefitting Hawes? They’ve had a pretty nice two-man game when they’ve been paired on the floor together.

I think it will benefit Tyreke as well
Something tells me that he’ll get easier shots with Beno on the floor.

I figure that
more time on the floor for Beno will benefit those players that are more reliant on a playmaker—those who have a hard time creating their own quality shots—like JT and Spencer. Beno is a better passer and playmaker than Tyreke—at least for now. It should benefit Tyreke a little bit too, at least scoring-wise, but maybe not developmentally as a ‘pure PG’.
I guess taking Martin out of the lineup and inserting Beno is inserting a quality playmaker and shooter for a great scorer. So there will be more opportunities to go around and better setups, but you probably aren’t quite as efficient and effective offensively.
I look forward to seeing how it is different from having Martin on the floor—it’ll further test the mettle of the youngins.

JT & Spencer benefitting was my first thought
When Tyreke has the ball, it’s a 50/50 chance he’s driving into the lane. So, the bigs need to clear out so Tyreke has a better chance to get to the rim. Beno is more likely not to try to finish at the rim. He’s going to pull up for his pop & drop or he’ll try to dish to one of the bigs. Either way JT & Spencer are in a better position to rebound or be set up for an easy basket.
Also, Beno is better at running the pick & roll. Which hasn’t been overly successful for the Kings so far, but it’s oen of the best plays for getting our bigs easy shots.

Reke and Beno
Question I have is will Reke play the point with Beno in? If not, doesn’t that hurt his growth as a point guard?
by amonk81 on Nov 6, 2009 8:25 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
It hurts in a lot of ways
Reke isn’t an SG. He just can’t shoot well enough yet. We need Beno to be the SG as he has a better spot shot and will spread the floor so Reke can drive.
by MustangMBS on Nov 6, 2009 9:12 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Tyreke doesn't shots the long ball all that well.
Beno was one of our worst 3pt shooters last season. And, although I haven’t seen any statistics on midrange jumpers for this year, Beno is shooting 6 for 11 from 3pt range and Tyreke is 1 or 9. Beno is shooting 48% overall and 55% from the 3 which should make him the logical option for the 2. While on defense they might switch and have Beno defend the 1.(for the next 20 games not just the Utah game)
That being said, there’s no reason to believe that Tyreke & Beno won’t be alternating running the offense, depending on which play is called or how well the offense is running.
