BUI - blogging while intoxicated

I didn’t drive though like Nocioni. Anyway, I don’t question Kevin’s heart. He has shown his dedication to the game through how he has improved every year spending the summers with david thorpe. It is unfortunate that he has had injuries. Peaches should have never questioned bobby’s toughness and should not be questioning kevin’s now. Natt peaches! Without these two great players, kings history would look much worse.

Disclaimer: comments may have been made under the influence of alcohol. If the Kings start winning, this will probably change.

Fire Peaches!

Gary is better any way. He and Jerry would be a hoot.

Oh, and well done Sam.

You don’t get paid by the team, but you’re more fair to the players than the team’s play by play guy.

I am not a fan of Gary Gerould

too polished for my taste. I liked Jim Kozimar as a play-by-play guy.

Is he back on KHTK? I thought he got fired.

by bench_blob on Nov 7, 2009 8:12 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

He's doing an afternoon radio show on KHTK

I don’t mind him so much there, but he is an absolutely awful play-by-play guy.

I’d be down with a Gary Gerould-Jerry Reynolds simulcast.

Sometimes i like Grant...

but most of time he makes me go WHAAAAAAT???? like wensday he had JT on the show and Grant told him straight up “as i was watching you guys play the hawks last night, not once in my mind did i think you were going to win” WTF how you gonna bring a guy on your show and tell him you knew his team wasnt gonna win the game? Of course JT responded back by saying that Redacted had a better team then the Rockets on paper and yet the Rockets took the Redacted to Overtime And that it doesnt matter if you play the Celtics or the Grizzlies, YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME and i am even more of a fan of Jason Thompson because of his response.

And Grant gets hate no matter what he does, he says he likes the Kings and their team, he gets called a HOMER. He says the team needs to get tougher, he is a HATER so its a lose-lose for Grant.

by JZiadeh on Nov 7, 2009 5:31 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

I have never, ever, ever witnessed Peaches being a homer.

To me, I am the definition of a homer. I follow this team regardless of record (and we have had some truly horrendous records), from Los Angeles, and try my best to spin even the most horrible loss or performance into a net positive.

Grant might find something praiseworthy in a particular play or a specifc game, but I would never call him a homer. And furthermore, what is the potential “lose” if he were to be called that? His target audience agreeing with him too much?

I've always liked Amick

… never understood the hate for peaches until this though. I don’t get coverage over here, so I’m not exposed to anything he does on the radio, and very little of his TV work. If this is his typical MO though, then he’s cancerous.

Injury prone isn't always the same thing as soft.

Seeing the kind of way he plays, I’m willing to give KMart the benefit of the doubt when he chooses to sit through an injury. Sometimes shit like this happens.

On the other hand, Peaches deserves all the “fuck you!”s he has earned. Fuck you, Peaches.

Peaches is a douche nozzle...

The guy is an embarrassment to both the Kings and KHTK. The guy brown noses players in interviews like he’s “one of the guys” and then talks down to everybody on his radio show like he knows it all (which he doesn’t!). He must have pee’d himself when he was onstage with Vlade and co. in Yugoslavia.

What bothers me is Napear's 'we pay to see them play regardless' spiel.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to see players play hurt or at less than 100%. I want to see players play to the best of their abilities (and as a Kings fan, beyond their abilities) and let the best team on the day/night (and the Kings) win.

At least that’s what I pay to see. I rather be without Kev for 2 months than see him being half the player he is for that duration.

There's nothing to fear but everything.

I wish

they’d let go of Peaches and bring back Koz to replace him …. I think he’s a great play by play man.

Yes

Koz should be full time Kings announcer. On radio or TV.

Napear sucks but

Koz!? Come on now he’s not NBA play by play quality. Although I do miss swing him stand next to Katie and being dwarfed.

The worst part of that article is the comments section

I know I shouldn’t expect too much from them. They’re usually full of drivel, but damn, there’s A LOT of drivel in there.

I usually read a couple to laugh a bit and to remind myself of the stupidity of the sacbee’s kings section. It also makes me appreciate this place that much more. I really hope the players don’t read that crap.

The future begins now...

No big fan of Peaches

But as a journalist, I think it’s a fine line between covering the team and being a homer, and I don’ think that’s Kevin Martin’s call. His job is to play.

Do you really want the Kings dictating what the play-by-play announcers can and can’t say? Will Jerry get called on the carpet if he says something demmed too critical by a player.

If we were talking about what was said on Kings broadcasts I'd agree with you

But we’re talking about what’s being said on 1140 where Napear is not employed by the Kings.

by pookeyguru on Nov 7, 2009 5:17 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

But Martin is complaining about it

Because Napear’s also employed by the Kings. At least that’s how Amick reported it:

Yet as Martin sees it, it’s an unfair fight that has been fostered by one of the team’s own employees.

Apparently Martin can criticize Kings employees, but doesn’t think Kings employees should criticize him. Interesting double standard. Probably just better to shut up and play (sit).

Oh, come on

Do you think Kobe would be quiet if one of the team’s announcers was saying he was soft? That announcer would be out on his ass. MJ? Magic? Anybody?

And Kevin was not criticizing Grant’s play by play, he was defending himself against an attack on his character, desire and heart. Not even close to the same thing.

Especially when Napear isn't doing this when he's doing play by play

He’s doing it on the radio. I don’t really see why it’s so hard to see that Napear is trying to use his dual positions to get around the “conflicting interests” argument.

It’s obvious Napear’s interests are conflicted. If Napear was saying that on air during team broadcasts, that’s one thing. He’s not doing that CC.

by pookeyguru on Nov 7, 2009 11:59 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Well, then there's really nothing to complain about

Since as you point out, he’s not a Kings employee when he’s doing the radio show. But that’s the premise of the Amick-Martin-Jackson argument, that he shouldn’t be doing this because he’s a Kings employee.

It’s also interesting that Jackson gets into this fray. Is that the role of the team’s “community ambassador?”

I’m really glad the team shook off the effects of this situation and played so well through adversity. Message: it’s about the team, not one player.

"The basis for winning an NBA title is having a superstar in his prime. Not an all-star, or a bunch of all-stars, but a superstar."

by coolcatreportdotcom on Nov 8, 2009 8:58 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Well that's just it CC

Napear tries to have it both ways. On one hand, he tries to ask that it’s a complete farce to have a team employee on the air when arena issue’s come up. He tries to intimidate and steer away any “negative Maloof” commentary from callers.

On the other hand, he tries to act like he’s a impartial observer about the Kings. If he didn’t do so many double takes, than I’d agree with your point. But, he contradicts his own policies depending on the subject matter.

As far as shaking off losing Kevin Martin, that’s a good thing too. It’ll be interesting to see how the team reacts when Speed comes back as well.

But Napier is a Kings employee

Let’s try a different scenario.

Say you work for Microsoft. Because of your position at Microsoft you get a chance to write a monthly piece for Wired Magazine. Then you start ripping Microsoft products in your monthly article. Do you think Microsoft might be upset? They can’t change what you write for Wired, but they can change your employment status at Microsoft.
