Andres Nocioni needs to Go

It seems as if the only two places that Nocioni lines up are the bar stool and the three point line.  He is this year's Donte Greene.  When nobody played defense, the Kings relied on Artest and then Nocioni as the only ones with conscience enough not to matador.  I don't think Nocioni is that great of team defender and he tries hard but isn't athletic or tall enough to shut down most NBA threes.  He's a minute eater who lives and dies on one shot --he's just in the way of developing the other guys and at this point, I actually think he might be worse on both ends.  He's kind of a black hole; if he gets the ball over the line, you know its going up no matter the situation. Udoka has more upside and is more athletic.  i'd rather see more of him, Cresspi, Greene, Cisco when he comes back, and even K9 as a three.

I agree with the argument that Nocioni may not be the best fit on this Kings team and would probably be better suited as a key bench player for a contender. However, you lost me when you used “upside” and “Udoka” in the same sentence and you made my nose bleed when you suggested playing K9 at 3.

Agree completely

I really stopped reading when I read that Udoka has more upside. You do know Udoka is 32?

He must have been on the bar stool next to Noc

And Noc made him pick up the tab.

Let's wait until the Kings blow out another team besides the Warriors before people trip out

The Warriors may be the worst team in the league.

The only part that I agree with is trading Noc

And that is solely due to his age and contract. I would deal him for expiring – another $7.5 million in cap room next year might come in mighty handy.

That said, he is better than Casspi, Greene and Udoka, so he does help this team (if not the growth of the team) while he is here. I have no issue with Noc being here for now, but I sure would like to see him dealt by the deadline.

I think the team will look at trading him by January

This team doesn’t exactly have a lot of 2 guards, and the facct is that Noc at the 3 & 4 is something they still need in the here & now. Shouldn’t be a problem by the deadline though.

Maybe a swap for the Polish Hammer?

I think Gortat would be a nice third bigman for the rotation and speculation when his offer was matched was that he is going to be shopped when eligible in December so the Magic didn’t lose him for nothing. He’s a long term MLE guy who is going to lose value if they continue to leave him on the bench so I think he will be available.

I love the Magic as a team

They are great fun to watch, and watching that playoff run really made me excited to follow them.

But Gortat is not a shot blocker at all. He’s a better defender than Spence or JT (actually a lot in Jt’s case), but he is not a shot blocker.

It’s a bit funny since Trollbbeet was a popular topic, but I wouldn’t mind if the Kings could get a player like that. (I would prefer Derrick Favors of course.)

As far as can the KIngs acquire Gortat? Nope. They don’t have cap space.

Strong starting argument
It seems as if the only two places that Nocioni lines up are the bar stool and the three point line.

He’s expendable. He’s known more for his off the court performances in Sacramento with the foreign newspaper interviews and DUI. Considering the Kings said they kept him because they thought he would be a good veteran presence you have to wonder if any front office faith is left.

by bignerd on Nov 8, 2009 10:38 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

That's a bit off the mark and stretching it

What Noc says to an Argentinian newspaper is going to sound slightly off context when keeping it in line with what the Kings goals are.

Getting a DUI could have happened to any Kings player, but you wouldn’t rip Jason Thompson like you just ripped Noc for getting one. JT’s leadership means more to this team than Noc’s does.

No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....

by pookeyguru on Nov 8, 2009 10:46 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

That's a fair counter. You are logical and more reasonable than me in every point.

I’m not sure most fans paid enough attention to Argentinian newspaper details to intelligently figure out what Noc was saying. I think most were fed the sports radio reaction that he was ripping the team or registering a few complaints. Situation wasn’t analyzed like it was around here but probably not the kind of interview answers the PR department would have preferred.

No, I would not have ripped Jason Thompson as much as Noc. I would have given JT the pass on this one and hoped he could move on without future incidents. I admit it’s hypocritical and biased and I am guilty. I don’t see Noc as having a future in Sacramento, nor is he enough of the present to really swallow this mishap and not feel burned. A good analogy to communicate my feelings is he isn’t good enough of an employee to deal with this kind of grief. Again not fair because I am not his employer, just someone judging from the outside but that’s how I feel.

I do recall a quote during the trade deadline last year about the Kings keeping Noc for his veteran presence and hoping he could rub off some professionalism on the young players, instead of taking the deal from the Spurs. I really don’t think the organization was happy with either of the decisions I mentioned.

I’m less rational and more upset with this guy.

by bignerd on Nov 9, 2009 12:39 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Forewarned is forearmed

I don’t think Noc’s DUI means much in terms of leadership, and I have no respect for the decision Noc made.

I will say drinking is criminalized in American culture, but that’s still irresponsible for Noc to drink & drive regardless of where he is.

That being said, the best way for us to put the Noc DUI to rest is to, umm, put it to rest.

I agree with EVERYTHING you just said.

K9 at the three?!? Why didn’t I think of that?

That can really open up our rotation man.

We can slide K9 down to the three, Hawes to the 4, and try out this Cresspi dude at the 5.

He is 7ft. 2inches right?

by Slaaam on Nov 9, 2009 2:53 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Casspi should start

He is very productive (look at yesterdays stats) and needs minutes to develop. He will have some bad games (he is a rookie) but his ceiling is much higher than Nocioni.

I wouldnt be surprised to see the Kings move Nocioni (Celtics were interested last year-they can have Wallace/BigBaby/Nocioni/House/Daniels bench). He has a contract for next year and I can’t really see where he fits on this team in the future.

Team
Evans/Udrih/Sergio
Martin/Garcia/Evans
Casspi/Garcia/Greene
Thompson/Brockman
Hawes/???

by Bellringer21 on Nov 9, 2009 4:52 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Cheap shot at Noc.

If you read what he said after the DUI incident, I think you can safely say that he’s not lining up at the bar every night.

Geez, he had one bad game and suddenly he’s a drunk who can’t play.

Not saying don’t trade him eventually, but this seems overly harsh.

The draft lottery has reinforced my belief that there are not enough bad words in the English language.

by LeaguePassAddict on Nov 9, 2009 7:42 AM PST reply actions   1 recs

Agreed

Way to harsh. It is the Sacramento Kings however, where folks will pile on a player after one bad game, or predict playoffs after one good win.

to be fair the same could be said of any team, I just notice it more because I read it daily.

BIG cheap shot

He adds a real veteran threat to our starters. Like Hawes, GS wasn’t a great match-up game for him.

Take Nocioni's comments in context

When he talked to the Argentine papers, he was saying the same things about the team most on this site were saying at the time. Let’s see where the Kings are in a couple of weeks and what he says then.

Right now the team is 3-1 with him as a starter, so I don’t see a need to change a thing.

Fo shizzle!

Rec’d. And I know he has been kind of a malcontent according to those interviews with the Argentine news outlet, but I think he may be seeing what this team might be capable of. I was at the warriors game, and at one point Tyreke went crashing in for a layup and 1. Nocioni was right there with him ready to crash the board. After the shot dropped, Noc was screaming louder than anybody on the court. He plays hard, he’s got passion, let’s keep him.

Did anyone else notice Tyreke calling out Noc during the GSW game?

They were setting up for GSW player to shot FT. And, Tyreke seemed to be calling out Noc. He said something like “you were supposed to force him to the middle not let him go baseline.” I couldn’t hear Noc’s response, but Tyreke seemed miffed.

Another Chippy moment between Noc & Tyreke? Is trouble brewing with the chemistry of the starters? If so, I’d guess Tyreke wins, and Noc is gone in the near future.

Maybe. It could also be a PG reminding a teammate about their defensive schemes.

I think we’ve all played in enough pick up and rec league games to know that an incident like the one stated above does not mean that things are “chippy” between them.

And uhm…Kings are 3-1 (right?) since Hawes and Nocioni became starters. Im pretty sure that isn’t a sign of crumbling chemistry.

Hahaha! Sorry, I'm reading this after Noce helped the Kings to get to a .500 record...

by scoring 16 points, the most crucial of which was a 4point play off a Durant foul, after the Thunder tied the game. They never recovered from that, I believe.

The truth? Probably not as big a fan as I am now.

I am liking Casspi a lot, though, which would give me another reason to follow the Kings (my parents, sister and brother-in-law all live in the Sacramento area, which was the only reason I had before to follow the Kings).

Also, I hate the Lakers and the Kings gave me many delicious memories during the Divac-Bibby-Webber days. (I have the requisite Webber and Divac jerseys)

But yes, if Noce is traded somewhere else, I’d probably be more active in the new team’s site than I would be here. (readies to cut and run, zig then zag)

If I may say so (hopefully without people thinking I'm a brownnoser)...

the people here are generally nicer than on other sites. I’ve read other teams’ sites and, well…let’s just say, when (not if, I’m afraid) Noce is traded away, I’ll probably come back here because of the STR people (if not for Casspi). :-)

Some SBN sites aren’t that populated with fans. There was a time when StR didn’t have that many people on it either. Sites grow with time usually.
