It's interesting to note that Tyreke is the only player on the list with a losing record

Which is probably why he won't win it unless the Kings end up better than .500...

and make the 7th or 8th playoff spot. It seems that this is K*be or Carmelo’s year in most peoples’ eyes. Ehhh…

33 Wins. Yeah, I said it.

I respectfully disagree with the premise of your statement

It seems to me that the group of people who vote for the league MVP do so based upon two subjective opinions:

1) they consider the MVP to be the best player in the league, or
2) they consider the MVP to be the best player on the best team

Since Tyreke is not the best player in the league, nor will be this year in my opinion and because although he may be the best player on the Kings, the Kings will not be the best team in the league this year; there is no chance for him to get the award this year with a 7th or 8th spot.

However what this report does do is give more national attention to Tyreke which is deserved.

What I'm saying is;

I don’t recall a player ever gatting the MVP award for being the best player on the most improved team. I may be wrong however.

No...you're totally right.

I’m just going off of super-hopeful-homer-wishful thinking. I do think ‘Reke would be in moderate consideration if what I stated came true. It won’t happen, but at least it would make him a lock for Rookie of the Year (which is stated below by ‘tokyo’).

33 Wins. Yeah, I said it.

by JETisKing on Dec 11, 2009 3:08 PM PST up reply actions

my vote goes to

Melo or Dirk. This is the best year of both of their careers so far.

Kobe is always there, as the best player on the best team. But he doesn’t have to score as much as he used to. I would rank him 3rd.

Dwight, Wade, and Lebron are right there, but the Cavs are underachieving, the Heat are still just ok, and Howard is not as good as he was last year, so far at least. I would rank Joe Johnson at that level as well, considering how scary the Hawks are with him as their star.

Another flaw in the human character is that everybody wants to build and nobody wants to do maintenance. Vonnegut

True.

Whoever’s team ends up with the best record/1st seed in the playoffs usually gets the nod. I see Denver continuing their push to the top by season’s end. Dallas has that injury bug and I’m not sure if they’ll have a full squad by mid-April.

I hope either get it just to make it all interesting. Seeing LeBron and Kobe trade MVP awards every season would get really annoying in my opinion. Ugggg.

33 Wins. Yeah, I said it.

o i’m sorry I didn’t realize you were serious… but the thought that the only reason Reke isn’t going to win MVP is because he’s on a losing team is freaking hilarious. How about the fact that he’s NOT a top 10 player. I love the kid and think he’s going to be great (already pretty good) but gimme a break.

Yeah -

It’s a lot like getting overly excited about an up and coming team that hasn’t even won a playoff series yet…

This is a nice tease for most Evans fans.

I don’t see it happening unless (as I stated earlier) the Kings end up better than .500 and in serious contention the 7th or 8th playoff spot.

I’m more than happy they put Tyreke in there to recognize his 20-5-5 accomplishment. I’m thinking he would also need to have a few buzzer beating clutch shots to be solidly etched in the voters’ minds. Unfortunately, when it comes to MVP voting, voters and people in general, seemed to be influenced more by highlights, marketing and big moments instead of consistent and solid play. Go ’Reke and Go KINGS!!!

33 Wins. Yeah, I said it.

This has to translate into....

ROY by default right? Jennings is obviously not in the MVP conversation and the fact that Tyreke is says that he’s not only got the whole rookie class dominated but that he’s already more important to his team (and the league) than most of the players we’ll see at All Star weekend.

That’s some daps.

If yr not happy with the results, lower yr expectations.

We'll wait until Blake Griffin comes back

The Clippers have bounced back in the last 10 games. Once they get Griffin back and if he plays well (which he should IF he’s completely healed), I think his name is going to be up there in the ROY conversation.

Although I feel that this isn’t fair (I mean, it is Rookie of the Year, not Rookie of the Second Half of the Year), it is what it is.

by clicc916 on Dec 11, 2009 3:34 PM PST up reply actions

I don't think you need to really qualify your statement with "not rookie of second half"

When Blake comes back, if he plays the way people thought he would when he was drafted, that may be enough to win the award. Regardless, it will be nice to see him play.

If I'm not mistaken,

I believe that Jennings was in one of these MVP lists either by NBA.com or ESPN.com. From what I recall it was after his 55 point performance.

by kwill on Dec 11, 2009 3:02 PM PST reply actions

Right.

I think he’s dropped down the list since his stats have been becoming very average of late and the Bucks have gone 2-8 in their last 10 games.

33 Wins. Yeah, I said it.

I agree with you (above) and Tokyo

I would seem to me that Tyreke is a lock right now for ROY. It’s quite a different feeling I get watching the Kings now since we have a ROY canidate compared to prior years. And I believe he will win it in the end. It’s an exciting time to be a Kings fan.

Where do I stuff the online ballot?

The NBA may never recognize a Sacramento Kings player as MVP but I can convince their web server.

Where do I stuff the online ballot?

by betweentheeyes on Dec 11, 2009 5:30 PM PST up reply actions

My favorite part
…Evans needs to be recognized for his 20.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.1 assists. Evans is a beast, and should only get better given he is playing the position most difficult to learn as a rookie.

It’s good that Reke gets mentioned as an MVP candidate, even though it probalby doesn’t happen. It’s a great way for him and the team to be recognized.

by rc360 on Dec 11, 2009 4:33 PM PST reply actions

I Like How

The remarks on Reke before the season were “Can he handle the Lead Guard role in the NBA” to now “Evans is a beast, He will only get better over time as he plays the hardest position to learn in the NBA”. Amazing how in a couple of months it goes from can a player handle it, to he will get better once he becomes even more comfortable in that position at the NBA level.

Maybe……this year I would agree with that statement. Its like they mentioned, the only reason he got the nod is cause the Bosh led Raptors have a worse record than us.

Lots of Love for

the Kings lately. Evans, Thompson, Casspi and Westphal, have all been given props for rookie of the year, second year player rankings and coach of the year on ESPN and NBA.com…nice to see. The ROY race, right now, is Jennings and Evans, with Griffin likely there if he performs as expected. Even if Griffin comes in strong, If the Kings can maintain this pace and win 33-36 games, then I think Evans wins ROY, particularly if he ends the year 20-5-5.

Another Legit question: Should either Tyreke or Jennings be all-stars?

Probably Jennings more than Evans, Tyreke is probably the fifth or sixth best PG in the west, depending on how you rate Tony Parker (who’s having a down year compared to last). Chris Paul and Steve Nash are sure things (though right now I wouldn’t put CP3 on the list, since he’s missed too much time), Billups and Deron Williams also have to be ahead, but Evans is right there with Parker. Plus the SG position in the west sucks behind Kobe and Roy, who are sure things. So that might help swing for more PG’s. Ginobili would be the only other SG who would be worth mentioning, and the general consensus seems to be that both Ginobili and Parker are having down years. If the all-star break was this weekend, it’d probably be Nash, Billups, Williams, Kobe, and Roy with CP3 and Ginobili having missed too much time. In terms of PER, Evans is right there behind Williams and Billups, and ahead of Parker. But he’s rising fast. He will probably hit the break (at the pace he’s going – keep in mind he started in a deep hole those first five games with K-Mart he was terrible), ahead of D-Will and Billups but behind CP3 and Nash. I don’t know if he’ll make it, but the case will definitely be there. It will, however, be especially hard since he wasn’t even on the ballot!

However the east PG’s, to put it bluntly, suck. Jennings is probably the second best in the east behind Rondo. And though he’s fading a bit, there’s not a whole lot of competition. Mo Williams has been terrible since the addition of Shaq. Jameer Nelson is hurt again, and Devin Harris has been hurt most of the year. However the SG position in the east is much stronger with Dwayne Wade as a sure thing, and Iguodala, Vince Carter, Joe Johnson, and Ben Gordon all putting up all-start level numbers.

by thashyt on Dec 12, 2009 12:53 AM PST reply actions

Also....

the fact that Jennings probably will be an all-star, may end up influencing ROY votes for him. It is, and will probably be all year, a two-man race with Jennings and Tyreke.

by thashyt on Dec 12, 2009 12:54 AM PST up reply actions

Wha this shows to me more than anything...

…is that the NBA WANTS to MARKET itself around Tyreke. They WANT him in the national spotlight. Which is SUCH a breath of fresh air round these parts.
