halftime. I thought the Pacer bigs of Foster, Hansbrough in particular did a great job of keeping the game close

and outhustling the Kings.

Granger, Watson and DJones were most of the offense.

But lots of contributions: Noce, Beno, Casspi, Sergio and of course JT with the mid range game, Spencer with the long range game were huge.

Remember

Latest figures on unemployment figures for sactown is still at around 10-12%..This has a lot to do with people not going to games..Think about it, $12.50 for cheap seats, + $10 for parking, and if you want snacks and a drink that’s another mortgage. Yeah they are offering some ackages, but i think they need to go out to the public (Players and staff) and give away some tickets and reconnect with the public in general Thsi we will beout at this fast food joint for 1 hour during rush hour (5-6pm)is far parts of Sac county (Elk Grove and Rocklin) just doesn’t cut it.

Granted and sorry about the typo’s, me and the wife started drinking the minute i got home..Sake and Guinness- that’s the way to do it! Regarding movies, I agree but you gotta remember, you don’t deal with nearly as much to get into a movie
Breakdown on Movies Vs Game

To get in: Ticket checker vs Security/ticket/seat checker
Time expenditure: 2-2.5hours vs 4-4.5 hours
Seating- Closer and comfortable vs small hard plastic seat
Bathroom Lines: Short (Decently clean) Vs Long(and nasty)
Parking: Closer and free vs Far and $10
2tix, food, parking $40 vs ~$60 (Minimum)

Don’t get me wrong i love going to games and movies..i prefer games to movies thought because i love the thrill of the action. Future apologies for typos or incomprehensible phrases due to drinking)

The problem is, things may be at a point where they aren’t getting worse, but it sure doesn’t mean they are getting better.

by Kfan in Korea on Dec 3, 2009 3:57 AM PST up reply actions

I DO something about it

I’m one year removed from college on my first job and already have an 11-game package. On top of that I will probably go to at least another 5 games, not part of my plan. While that doesn’t make me better than anyone on this blog, it does give me the right to complain that people can’t spend $25 (tix + parking) to support this team.

I understand the state of the economy and that even $25 might be too high for certain individuals, but I assure you that you will spend more than $25 next time you go out to a bar or even just go out to dinner. Is it really that much to pay to help this team stay in Sac, especially the way they are playing?

I guess the economy is really that bad right now, and that’s not our fault. It’s just bad timing and it’s frustrating to me, that’s it. It’s just hard to swallow the fact that they are again over .500 and they just had one of the worst attendance numbers in years.

One last thing (about me): the only reason I argue about this so much is that I hate when someone question’s fanhood. Don’t question me when you have no idea where I’m coming from. That’s why I have no respect for the idiot that laughed at your joke. Take the time to understand my statement before making silli jokesabout me, I’d appreciate that

Godfather of the "nice ass" movement.... the future begins now...

by edm7 on Dec 3, 2009 9:43 AM PST up reply actions

They were discussing this on KHTK this morning

And had a caller that said he had a hard time believing someone couldn’t squeeze out $50 to go to a game. In this economy, I’m not sure the point is whether the $25 or $50 is doable, it’s whether it’s a smart thing to do.

Because of the economy, because of layoffs, because of furloughs, etc. – there is a limited amount of disposable income available to use for most people. And I’d guess that a Wednesday night game against the Indiana Pacers isn’t the place most people are going to spend that disposable income.

Personally, I could afford to go if I wanted to. But that $25 or $50 is better off in my savings account right now, in case I do end up one of the 12.5% that is unemployed in the state of California.

And this is no knock on you eduardo, it just amazes me that everyone thinks that $25 or $50 is throwaway money in this economy. I’ll admit, that $25 or $50 won’t go a long ways, but it is almost a tank of gas for me, or a small trip to the grocery store – I think when you put it in that context, that’s a better reflection of the value of that money.

"When you look at him, you say: 'Holy God.'" - Pete Carril on Tyreke Evans

by otis29 on Dec 3, 2009 10:19 AM PST up reply actions

I agree Otis

That’s why I made sure to emphasize (at least a bit) the terrible state of the economy. Sometimes we are better off saving and disposable income is obviously the first to go away. It’s really just bad timing all around.

At the end of the day I just want the Kings to stay in Sac and hopefully with a couple more wins at home, people will be willing to spend those extra 25-50 bucks for a nice night out at Arco. I just think it’s worth it but that’s definitely a personal preference.

Godfather of the "nice ass" movement.... the future begins now...

by edm7 on Dec 3, 2009 11:22 AM PST up reply actions

I understand the disappointment

Outside of a few small hiccups, it appears that attendance had been increasing over time. Then we saw what happened last night. Why are we getting 12k, then only a little over 10k after a decent home winning streak? That’s a good question. The economy didn’t suddenly get that much worse.

I will admit, that this team has me seriously tempted to buy a small ticket package. I have a 6 year old daughter and a wife that is a huge Kings fan who I’d love to take to a few games. It would hurt a bit to do so, but the product on the floor has made it at least worth considering.

by otis29 on Dec 3, 2009 11:30 AM PST up reply actions

That's the cool thing

The play of these young guys is pretty much ‘forcing’ people in Sac to get up and get some tickets. The product is much improved and the team is protecting the home court.

I listened to KHTK earlier tody as well and the only thing that got me upset was the lady that complained that tickets prices are really expensive because the players get paid so much. Those kinds of excuses are the ones that annoy me a bit (that a complaining about the Malofs making so much money).

I understand that’s the casual fan speaking but it’s stil a bit upsetting

Godfather of the "nice ass" movement.... the future begins now...

by edm7 on Dec 3, 2009 1:25 PM PST up reply actions

The only way tix are going down at this point

Is if everyone accepts that current ticket prices aren’t sustainable for the NBA to survive. The NBA is nowhere near admitting that. Plus, that lady just wanted to complain about ticket prices. She probably complains about the movie ticket stubs too, but the difference is that there aren’t movie call in talk shows on radio.

For me it's a three-hour one-way trip

So I limit my choices pretty much to Friday, Saturday and holiday games. My son and I went to three games last year, we went to the Rockets game this season and have $10 ($12.50) tickets for the Denver game Dec. 28 and Phoenix Feb. 5.

We’ll probably go to at least two other games later in the year, with one of the Portland games pretty likely.

It’s great entertainment when they play well like they did against the Rockets. Not so much last year, when they lost all three games we saw by double digits, including the 45-point blowout to the Celtics.

Good on ya man! an 11 game package, hell even a couple of tickets a year IS supporting the team so my joke (note smiley) was just to make a point with a light heart. When I was just getting out of school I had a 1 year old baby and I didn’t start going to Kings games regularly until 1999 when Jwill and gang posse’d up some 6 years later.

Still… We can talk about “this economy” all we want. The fact is that the business world has no sympathy. So (not directed at anyone particular) if someone REALLY wants the Kings to stay in Sacramento, or to be able to attract decent free agents, that person should consider that in their decision to buy tickets, t-shirts and food at the Arena.

For example, in “this economy” a lot of people still have iPhones right? The data plan for one is a premium over other similar web plans and even those aren’t necessary right? We all have to choose where we spend our money and if someone can’t fit a couple of games in here and there they can be upset if the team sucks / leaves but they shouldn’t complain.

I still think for everyone that is not out there supporting the team (IE buying tickets not watching every game on TV for free) because of financial reasons, there are 2 or 3 others that aren’t buying tickets simply because the team isn’t competing for a championship right now. And hey, if you live 3000 miles away, buy a license plate from or a t-shirt from the team store or something. If Sacramento is full of unemployed or scared of being unemployed people that don’t go to games, the team will move and I think it is that simple.

(switching to nobody cares mode) For my wife and I, we decided to become first time season ticket holders about a week after the season ended this year. Yeah, before we even knew who our coach was, where we were picking in the draft etc. It was a leap of faith and as you can imagine a significant percentage our disposable income. We don’t share with any others and we have gone to every single home game so far and it has been worth every penny. Like you Ed, I am not putting this out there to strut around like I am “making it rain” or anything but I think now more than ever the Kings need our support. They could be gone in a couple of years so were are making the most of what we have now.

cheers!

Some thoughts about this game
  • Tyreke Evans is awesome.
  • Spencer Hawes and JT played great, although they were outworked on the glass for once. I think they underrated Foster, who was Eric Maynor like with his rebounding.
  • Udoka played some solid defense, although he’s still suffering from Desmond Masonitis on the offensive end.
  • Although we had 19 turnovers, our ball movement was probably the best I’ve seen all year, and we had 28 assists on 41 FGs.
  • Our PGerberus is awesome, because it allows to play a few different styles of basketball and change the game tempo in different ways. Reke, Beno, and Sergio all bring in different styles of play.
  • Dahntay Jones gets my early vote for MIP. He’s looking real good.

What’s wrong with the world, mama
People livin’ like they ain’t got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that’ll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin’
In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you’re bound to get irate, yeah
Madness is what you demonstrate
And that’s exactly how anger works and operates
Man, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y’all, y’all

And that list isn't quite accurate

Spencer has scored 20 and the Kings have won twice against Memphis and tonight vs Indy. (I’m sure the 3 losses are correcct though.)

You're right

The Kings are 2-2 when Hawes scores 20. Tonight and vs. Memphis were wins, with losses when he scored 20 against the Spurs and Rockets.

This just in:

The Kings are 9-0 when they score more points at the end of the game than the other team.

The other team is 0-8 when they score less points than the Kings

pacers

not a good team at all. (not saying this to rain on our parade – just an observation). I kept hearing peaches and jerry talking about this “dangerous team who can really spread the floor” and had to rub my eyes and wonder who was taking the crazy pills. granger is a stud, obviously. dahntay jones doing a dwade impression kept them in the game (nice job having brandon rush on the floor for crunch time, thanks coach) don’t know if it was the injury but dunleavy can’t play a lick. he certainly can’t shoot. watched him against the w’s the other night and all his shots looked like spence’s 1st FT…

speaking of which, thanks for showing up spence. after aforementioned free throw and first couple bricks, thought he was in tank mode. (sacrilege alert) jt’s jumper imo is well on its way to being better than cwebb’s ever was. he has more range and a more natural stroke. a long way to go in court sense though.

I don’t want to see noc get traded unless we totally go in the tank. I love what he’s bringing. my only concern is whether this team camaraderie stays when 2 major rotation players get back… I think it will. that’s just a side effect of a real coach.

those saying 30 wins would be a major success — you realize that means 21-44 the rest of the way? I say no way this team lets that happen.

lol kurt rambis. troy murphy: why the long face?

Good observations
dahntay jones doing a dwade impression kept them in the game (nice job having brandon rush on the floor for crunch time, thanks coach)

Yes, he probably should have put him back in a litle earlier. Dahntay has developed some confidence in his game.

jt’s jumper imo is well on its way to being better than cwebb’s ever was. he has more range and a more natural stroke. a long way to go in court sense though.

We were discussing him passing on the 18-footer while shooting the 16 footers and I thought maybe those were just out of range, but he was nailing all those shots tonight. Add that post and face the basket shot and he will be a handful.

All that playing outside might have impacted his rebounding as he only had six in 40 minutes. Murphy also drew him away from the basket on the other end.

I'm an optomisitic person

And I still stand behind my preason prediction of 31-51 (I had them at 10-7 after 17 games, with Kevin Martin). And at that time, I was predicting more wins than the majority of Kings fans.

I am a true believer in this team when it comes to heart, hustle, determination, and future. But I think that they go 4-10 or 5-9 for the rest of December, as the schedule turns tough.

Here’s hoping that I am underestimating this team.

That's why they play the games

The Kings are clearly going to have to improve to continue their winning ways. They have to continue to defend their home court while learning to win on the road. That’s the next step and challenge for this team.

Worst NBA.com writeup EVER
The 6-foot-6 Memphis product is one of only two players this season to average at least 18.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists. He’s in good company; the other is player is LeBron James.
The game was tied at 79-70 late in the third quarter before Sacramento began to pull away

Surely they need to have some kind of quality control on this site. I am reminded of the “Kevin Martin scores 40 on his old team” (or something like that) when the Kings played the Nuggets…

Must try harder.
