Why don't the Kings sign some D league guys

The Kings need some Bigs who can actually play and I have been checking out the D League players and they look like they could play. They at least seem like they could play better than Kenny thomas or John Brockman.

I will name a few guys who could help the Kings

First one is Joey Dorsey. The kid is playing less than 30 minutes a night, and yet he is grabbing almost 14 rebounds a game. He also scores 14 points a game and gets 2 assists, and blocks shots and gets steals. His stats are great and he is only playing 29.4 minutes a game.

Another guy is Dwayne Jones. He can really play. he is a great rebounder and a good shot blocker, Also he is an average scorer. He doesn't have a great low post game, but if he isn't double teamed he can score. If his offensive game improverd he could be a double bouble guy in the NBA.

The last guy I will mention is Rod Benson. Rod is a good teammate and he has probably the most complete game of any of the D league big men. Rod does a little bit of everything and what he does he does well. He has an alright offensive game, he is a good rebounder, and a great defender. He is versatille and would be a good fit for the Kings.

i would reccomend dropping John Brockman and signing Joey Dorsey and Rod Benson.

I got nothing against  Dwayne Jones, I just think the other guys are better fits.

Joey Dorsey would be a lot better than Kenny Thomas. He is a way better rebounder and defender. dorsey was the 33rd pick in the 2008 draft. He would score more than Kenny too because I bet he would get some put backs.

Rod Benson is a great defender and would be a good role player for the Kings. he is alot better than john Brockman.

What do you think about these D league guys and do you have any other guys you think the Kings would sign.  Also do you think the Kings would sign any of these guys because they seem way better than Kenny Thomas.

None of these guys are better than Kenny Thomas or Jon Brockman or Sean May

That is why they are still in the D-League.

Yeah, unfortunately the D-League hasn't been producing the same quality as the MLB farm system has produced...

It’s a different system. I would love Benson to be able to make it in the league, but there has to be some reason that he hasn’t been picked up yet…

check out the list of big at Ridiculous Upside

They put it together in predicting who would be a good fit for Portland now that both of their centers are gone.

There are some pretty serious big men out there, and I think I would pick most of them over Sean May. Alternately, I think it would be good for Sean to actually get some playing time in the D-league.

We could cut May, let Brockman get some burn over in Reno, where he could focus on his offensive game. Trade K9, and give some players like Rod Benson and Greg Steimsma a chance. That way we not only have some size, but a little more versatility in our front line.

Huh?

Was Brockman not a huge contributor in the LA game? What is going to learn in Reno, how to be 3 inches taller?

Grasping at straws here, people. There is no one in D-League that will bring us more hustle than Brockman or more court smarts than Thomas.

A tall stiff is still a stiff.

ok, i have no problem with Brock staying, as long as he does play more

I love Brockman! It just hurts that he doesn’t get to play as much, when I know he wants to. I would love to see him get some more minutes, but I feel he won’t unless he can consistently make a 12 foot jump shot.

At least in Reno, maybe he could get at least 30 minutes regularly instead auditioning for the rest of the game by playing 5 minutes in the 2nd quarter.

OK,

But I would rather watch him play 5 minutes for Sacramento than read about him playing 30 minutes in Reno.

To whatever extent Brockman evolves as an offensive player, he’s going to do it better and faster under this coaching staff and going up against Spencer, JT, Thomas and May in practice. He’s not going to take a fast track to offensive stardom by playing more minutes against inferior talent under an inferior coaching staff.

if, and this is a big if

It came down to a getting a player from the D-league who has more talent, ability, and potential than Brockman, or keeping Brockman, I am sure we would go for the D-league player. I am not sure that player is out there. But I am also not sure if the front office has looked to the D-league for that.

I do feel that the D-league suffers from inferior talent, that a lot of its players will always struggle to get by and make it to the NBA. But, I really think it is useful to see the D-league as an extension of our own league. It was started to provide a domestic farm system, and I really wish teams would start to use it as such. That includes the Kings. Maybe the need to add a round to the draft to do that. I don’t know. But I think a better focus on the D-league could reduce the corruption and exploitation by NCAA basketball, and help improve the talent in the NBA.

As far as Brockman, he is a great guy, and I love him on the Kings, and I don’t really wish him to go anywhere. I am a little wistful sometimes in hoping for some magical talent that has been overlooked, and in feeling that the D-league is overlooked as a place to DEVELOP, not FIND talent.

Brockman - in regards to a trade for a D Leaguer is a non issue

If you have ever listened to Paul Westphal speak of The Brockman it is all glow – what makes one think that a guy who is referred to as “if he were 3 inches taller he would be illegal” would be sent away? This guy just logged 21 minutes vs the Lakers, he is not going anywhere near Reno.

If anything Brockman should play more. He is the antithesis of Hawes in all the good ways…

It was a lot more than rebounds

Gasol and Bynum will remember him frequently for the next few days, getting out of bed and in the training room, and it may have some effect on the next game.

You know what you get for averaging "only" 9 rebounds a game in the NBA?

Rich beyond your wildest freakin’ dreams.

And I’m not saying Brockman should start, but if he played starter’s minutes, he’s be averaging about 15 boards a night, minimum. Citing D-League stats is like me bragging about my batting average in high school; it just doesn’t mean jack at the highest level of the game.

If I knew I couldn’t hit a guy, I’d bunt and run like hell. I was a fine center fielder, though.

When does Sean May's contract become guaranteed? Jan 15th?

I could see them releasing him to pick up another marginal prospect.

Mike - I just looked at your profile and it says you are an 8th grade Warrior fan

If you really are in 8th grade – Good for you, nice post

Warrior fan whose favorite player is Anthony Randolph. That’s bad for you Mike. Bad, bad, bad.

I get your point about taking a look in the D League for a big. The Warriors have had decent results there, most recently with Chris Hunter. I think the lack of love you’re feeling is because you don’t really understand the value that Jon Brockman and Kenny Thomas bring to the Kings.

I forget the exact date but in January, teams can sign players to 10 day contracts. At that point I think it would make a lot of sense for the Kings to bring in a big from the D league. The upside is, well………….ridiculous and the cost is very low. I for one would love to see the Kings bring in Rod Benson. He was in camp for a while with the Kings this summer and he led the D League in rebounding I think two years ago. If nothing else, it would be interesting to read about the Kings in his blog.

If you really are in 8th grade, keep up the good work, if not please take another English class.

9 rebounds in 21 minutes

against the tallest front court in the league. He’s averaging 13 rebounds per 36 minutes.

There’s five guys on the court and only one ball. We have plenty of scorers. Our need is on the boards and on defense, and it’s hard to fault Brockman in those areas. He’ll get a chance to work on his offensive game when we start blowing people out. For now he’s a “rebounding specialist” and a damn good one at that.

I also love those kickout assists for the open threes to Udoka and Beno. I think he should be the fifth string point guard behind JT.

Dorsey is on contract witht the rockets?

I like Dorsey’s game, but we already have and a big that is taller laying down.
