Because this is on my mind (I just found out today that Brandon Roy doesn't stand on the court during the national anthem)

Does anybody else think that playing the National Anthem at sporting events is really stupid?

No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....

Oh, hes in the laegue two and Jayson Thomson and that Boggins dude on Milwokee, and Occur for the Jizz. Its a talented laegue.--Kfan in Korea

If you're a communist, yes

I’m kind of indifferent to it. I think it can be unifying in the sense that it’s the one point at a game when opposing fans (assuming there are any) all shut up and get along.

I think it’s a little more important in international competition to pull at players’ patriotic heart strings. A little less important in an almost exclusively American league

That's where I"m at with it

There isn’t any political statement being made. Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf made a political statement, but he was right too. So I don’t really have much of a problem with that.

I know this is a crappy can of worms to open. I just find it irritating that the National Anthem is played at every single fucking sporting event in the US. It’s overkill.

Bad timing to start this discussion, like you said :)

Let’s just say, Brandon Roy has registered a couple blips on my asshat-ometer so far this year; from what you guys said though, this shouldn’t be anything to get too excited about.

he just uses that time to have a few minutes alone. Poor timing of when to do this from a PR standpoint though.

And Wade actually makes his team better on the defensive end too.

Professional Hyperbole Slayer

by ForThree on Dec 6, 2009 8:25 PM PST up reply actions

Sorry, I thought we were doing "favorite" superstar.

We must be doing “best” superstar.

Nash is my favorite superstar because I admire the way he maximized his talents, despite obvious physical limitations, and how his game is geared to making his teammates better.

Noce is my favorite player, per se, because of his hustle, heart, grit etc…all of which put him right alongside your average NBA forward. not, not the best player, not even among the best 100 NBA players but still, my favorite.

If Wade is your favorite superstar, I salute your choice, and I can certainly see why he is the favorite of many.

Mine remains Nash.

There can only be one Noce!

by NoceOne on Dec 6, 2009 8:30 PM PST up reply actions

that makes sense :)

the implication Wade doesn’t make the guys around him better is what I read in.

Professional Hyperbole Slayer

by ForThree on Dec 6, 2009 8:31 PM PST up reply actions

Wade's 10 assists does indicate he does make others better.

But he is, first and foremost, like LBJ and Melo, a self-centric superstar. Nothing wrong with that. MJ, Shaq, that guy in LA (especially that guy in LA) were all like that and they were all champions.

There can only be one Noce!

by NoceOne on Dec 6, 2009 8:34 PM PST up reply actions

playing at a higher plane raises the level of all

when you involve your teammates. That does not always translate to assists. Tim Duncan, Hakeem Olajuwon, Bill Russell are not going to get you assists but they are champions, as such, this being a team game, must raise the level of their teammates.

by betweentheeyes on Dec 6, 2009 8:41 PM PST up reply actions

Agree. I just mentioned that Wade's assists probably indicated that

he was able to help his teammates become better (in this game) but I did not mean to say that assists are the only considerations.

The positives for the Kings

far and away – Tyreke Evans is gaining respect in leaps and bounds from the opposition.
Donté was solid, he played a good all around game and played within the game.
Omri brought in energy and scoring
Beno was also solid and dependable
