Bosh/Martin swap

Ofcourse id want to wait to see how tyreke and kmart play but if for whatever reason it doesnt work, I think this could be a possible trade.

Toronto Gets:
Kevin Martin
Spencer Hawes
Andres Nocioni

Sacramento Gets:
Chris Bosh
Marcus Banks

I think for any trade that involves Bosh, you gotta throw in a young big. Hawes Allows Bargnani to go back to PF, even though Hawes isn’t good enough of a rebounder to make up for Bosh’s loss, Nocioni is decent and he brings toughness to a pretty soft team. Banks is an ugly contract but its not terrible. Its 2 yrs left, 1 after this one.

This is the kind of trade i can see Toronto doing as we get closer to the deadline, might have to throw in a protected draft pick or something to sweeten it up a little.

wait, so let me get this right

We give up Kevin Martin, one of the most efficient scorers in the league, on a very reasonably contract, Spencer Hawes, an NBA average center at age 21 on his first contract, and Nocioni

for

Marcus Banks’ bad contract

and

the right to cry when Bosh leaves for Miami this summer?

Except maybe we have to give up a protected draft pick too?

Where do I sign up?

About Bosh

I know this is probably not any revelation, but Chris Bosh is AWESOME.

I saw him last two games. He is ferocious around the hoop. He can shoot the 15 footer. He can get O boards. He is everything JT wishes he could be. Think of a lefty CWebb in his prime, and that is Chris Bosh. Chris Bosh took his game to a new level this year of 26 and 12, and he makes it look easy. His teammates are kind of disinterested, but the Raptors are playing better of late.

Now how do we get him?

(1) Dream on. (2) Well, for Robby1987, no contract extensions can be granted now. (unless I am missing something), so if a trade is to be made with a new contract signed, that will have to wait until the off-season.

If I had to guess, I think Bosh will end up in Miami or Chicago. No way he re-ups with Raptors. Now, if he wants to get MAX dollars, then he would have to sign with the Raptors and agree to trade simultaneously (please correct me if I am wrong. I am not a CBA expert, nor do I care to be.) That’s where Geoff Petrie steps in with a deal like suggested above.

If we can outbid the Bulls, Heat, et. all, with a player package, then maybe we have an outside chance of 20 to 30%. If I am the Raptors, a package of K-Mart and late lottery pick (#8 to #12), if it turns out as such, would be fairly attractive, and beats the alternative of an empty locker.

Bosh comes in a sign and trade for Kevin Martin in the offseason

I’ve already sold my soul to make this happen, so you’re welcome.

It all comes down to the FO convincing Bosh to come here via free agency. As it stands right now we’re better than the Raptors with two of our best guys out. All Bosh needs to do is decide that he wants to play for an exciting young team that is already winning more games without him than his current team. Sure, there are other teams he can go to, but he’ll fit perfectly here because we need a star big man. Our other positions are covered, but our front court is weak. Bosh fixes that.

One thing to consider is that Chris Bosh has so much of the power. If he decides he wants to come here the Raps have almost no choice but to do a sign and trade so that they save face and get something back for him. I’d love to be able to send them Beno and Nocioni, but it’ll probably be Kevin, which I’m okay with.

by vfettke on Dec 6, 2009 5:32 PM PST reply actions

Very true

And if I am Bosh I am more concerned with finding a quality organization, teammates and coaching staff. The Kings have that. Unfortunately, so does Miami.

I have to believe Bosh wants to be find a place he can flourish, maximize his abilities, and win a championship. If Bosh’s agent is tapped into the pulse of the Kings, he knows good things are happening here, and we are a legitimate alternative if other possibilities don’t work out.

The other downside to overcome is our dilapidated arena and poor attendance. But Bosh could certainly remedy the latter.

by bench_blob on Dec 6, 2009 5:38 PM PST up reply actions

One thing on all of this Bosh talk -

If he were traded here, the Kings would be able to offer him $20+ million more than any other suitors, under the same provision that enabled them to retain C-Webb. Bosh is young, the KIngs are turning it around, and money talks.

This does not speak to the viability of the trade, just the fact that if he was traded here, he would have plenty of incentive to stay.

money first and foremost.

Winning has got to be a strong consideration when talking about the difference between a $68M deal and an $84M deal. (I know I am dense, but truly, how much money can you actually spend? Respect, happiness have to count for something, don’t they?)
If these Kings continue to show they have a winning atmosphere and a directed path to the Finals, doesn’t that make Sacramento’s smile sexier?

Agreed

And here’s the thing – I don’t ever recall an NBA player in his prime taking less money to play in a bigger city or for a team with a better chance of winning. I see it all the time with the just-past-their-prime-looking-for-a-ring guys, but never with the prime-timers.

If you pay them (more than the other guy can), they will come.

Oh well. enough about me.

I guess the answer to the question – how much more can you spend? is irrelevent. Why do so many condemn Carlos Boozer? He wears his mercenary badge more openly?

by betweentheeyes on Dec 6, 2009 10:26 PM PST up reply actions

I don't like Boozer's injury history

More than that, paying for him what he does seems reasonable, but not that much. Either way, at this point, I’d rather the Kings take their chances through the draft to improve up front.

oh, wholeheartedly agree. I went through the trade machine

and of the young available C’s – not much there worth wanting. The Kings have no reason to give up much at this point in their rebuilding.

I was referring more to the: how much can a person spend? What other crap can you buy that you can’t buy with the other tens of millions of dollars you get? In that vein; why do so many people condemn Carlos Boozer for taking more money when you just pointed out, that is what ALL of the players do anyway? Don’t really want him as a King, though he is a wonderful big, also because of his injury history. He is playing for a big paycheck and once he has it his injureis cost more and will be less important to him (will the NBA ever get away from the guaranteed contract?)

by betweentheeyes on Dec 6, 2009 10:48 PM PST up reply actions

Boozer gets flak for reneging on a deal with the Cavs

He supposedly agreed to a long term deal with them if they let him out of the last year of his contract. Utah offered way more money that the Cavs couldn’t match for some reason and he jumped ship. Boozer denies reaching an agreement with the Cavs but it seems unlikely that the Cavs would just let him out of the last year of his contract for less than $1 mil to sign him to bigger money if they hadn’t agreed to a deal.

Honestly,

people seem to be afraid of trading for him mid season because they think he’ll just walk and I completely disagree. Yes, he can walk, but why would he? Our team right now, without our best player, is playing better than his team. A superstar big man averaging 26/12 would change that around quite a bit. If he came mid season we’d probably make the playoffs and the only thing keeping us from getting far would be youth and inexperience, which will only improve. In the summer we’ll be able to offer him a 6 year max deal to stay on a young, fun playoff team. Why doesn’t he take that deal? Why would he go to Miami for $20 million less to play second fiddle to Wade when he could stay here, make $20 million more, and be the man on an incredibly talented team?

I've given this some thought since you originally posted this -

and my concern is that it does not fix much up front. It adds some needed depth, but it does not give us low post scoring or interior defense. Granted, Bosh is not a great defensive presence inside, but he does block shots now and then. And he is certainly a low post presence on the offensive end.

I would support this deal if it were made, but I wouldn’t be that excited about it. I sure loved the thought process, though. Very creative, sroufe. Well done.

My Trade of the Week

Kings trade Kevin Martin, Andres Nocioni and Kenny Thomas
Kings get Unprotected Pick from New York, Andrei Kirilenko, C.J. Miles, Brian Scalabrine, and Eddie House

Utah trades Unprotected Pick from New York, Andrei Kirilenko, and CJ Miles
Utah gets Kevin Martin and Kenny Thomas

Boston trades Brian Scalabrine and Eddie House
Boston gets Andres Nocioni

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yjsxtvm

Utah does this because they instantly get the best backcourt in the league, they get rid of one of the worst contracts in the league, and they save some money with K-9’s expiring contract.

Sacramento does this because Kirilenko can still be a good player that fits the new Kings mantra of toughness, will be a huge expiring next year, and with the departure of Nocioni, doesn’t add another SF to the mix. They also get New York’s lotto pick, which will likely be top 5, in addition to they’re own lotto pick, which will probably range from 8-12. Scalabrine and House are expirings and will not be retained.

Boston gets Nocioni, a player they have coveted for a while, and it adds another bullet to the championship gun.

While I’d love to have the unprotected pick via NYK, I can’t stand Kirilenko and it would pain me to see him with the Kings…he will just whine and cry for a year and a half about not playing more than Casspi and Greene. Sloan starts Wesley Matthews over the guy…

Hypothetically then, I’ll imagine that pick turns into Derrick Favors. Would I trade Martin and Nocioni for Favors and a Kirilenko rental? Maybe. But there is no guarantee of getting Favors or John Wall…and I’m certainly not down with trading Speed Racer for Willie Warren or Evan Turner at this point in time…

the problem with all young big men with the inkling of potential is that at this point in their careers they are also cheap. When a team trades away a big man prospect of some value, i.e. Robin Lopez (not great value, like Brook Lopez) than they trade away the potential of a rare commodity AND a low risk money gamble.

Of some solace: Jordan’s Bulls, 2004 Pistons all champs without dominating big men (roleplayer big men) and the teams that have made it to the finals recently (Mavs, Nets, Utah also with roleplayers at the 5). I count Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett as “big men”.

I didn’t mean anything high – most likely a second rounder as part of a deal likely bringing in expirings…not much but you never know with Petrie…

Vanquish the Foe, a BYU Cougars blog at SB Nation

by sroufe on Dec 7, 2009 7:51 PM PST up reply actions

I guess that's possible

But Geoff Petrie usually doesn’t ask for 2nd round picks. What Petrie will want for Noc this year, and Cisco (assuming he moves either) is expiring contracts.

If Petrie can do that (which is assuming a lot—again), than I think that will be issue #1.

May, K9 and Nocioni

For Curry and Darko!

Knicks move Curry, get an expiring and a cheap contract for a tough vet.

Kings get some big big dudes. Maybe one of them plays well enough to make the rotation. Curry is overpaid pretty much no matter what, but maybe he could have a minor “Webber” type revival. At the very least, his contract expires next season, and we could always trade it later. Darko plays tough D, I think he actually would fit in well.

It would probably take only shedding Noc's salary

Maybe Garcia’s to accomplish signing Bosh. The real question is what the salary cap drops to, and what the maximum offer the Kings could give to Bosh to lure him away from TO.

Note that I don't really think the Kings would be able to shed Garcia's salary until the Summer

But moving Noc’s salary SHOULD be able to give the Kings enough room theoretically. The problem is what the cap actually drops to next season, and nobody actually knows that.

Got it

Again, it was just to get an idea to see where we stands. I believe Noc goes one way or another but if that means there’s even a small (very small) chance of landing someone like Bosh (cap numbers pending of course) then that’s just another incentive.

I think that if this team shows some good play and the young guys keep improving, maybe some FAs may look at Sac as an interesting destination. I’m not, in any way, shape or form, holding my breah for this but if there was even a slight chance of us acquiring Bosh and keeping Speed, then that would truly be amazing.

One more time, let me repeat… chances are slim to none, but if logistics work, maybe we could dream.

Nocioni+Garcia for Hedo+Banks

Why for Toronto – They suck on the wings, especially defensively. This gives them depth, defense and not much lost on the offensive side of the ball really. Noc and Hedo have similar production.

Why for Sacramento – We get a playmaker that would be an ideal fit next to an Evans/Martin backcourt, and it costs us 4 million dollars more in the long run, with less 2011 liabilities(turn Beno/Thomas into Dalembert at the deadline or something to have room to sign a FA in 2011.).

Ajinca is a Shelden-Williams-Level longshot, but PW has shown to be able to get so much more from his players, so I like his odds better.

Trade em out:

Kings Clips and Hornetsin this one:

Clips get Noc and Okafor (Play a lineup of B.Davis, Gordon, Noc, Smtih and Okafor)
Hornets get: K9,and Hawes (Lots of cap relief and and cheap center)
Kings get Kaman and Camby (Noc and hawes pay for Cambyand we pay 2 years worth of Kaman)

Imagine Kings 3 man rotation of JT, Kaman, Camby.

Heres my ideas on lineups:

Tyreke / Sergio
Beno / Udoka
Omri / Donte – (Omri & Donte interchangeable here dependant on opposing team)
Thompson / Camby – (Jt & Camby interchangeable here dependant on opposing team)
Kaman /Sean May

Potential problem

I’m betting that the Clippers like the play of Kaman right now more than Okafor, and Kaman is owed about $29 million less than Okafor. And I’ve never believed that New Orleans is looking to give away Okafor.

One of the things that irritates the crap out of me is when I read on other blogs that the Kings are looking to fire sale Kevin Martin because they are (according to these other blogs) losing money. Similarly, I find it difficult to believe that the Hornets are looking to fire sale Okafor less than two months (in playing time) after trading a shorter contract (Chandler) to obtain him. I could be 100% wrong, but I can’t believe that the Hornets would have dealt Chandler for Okafor if the intent was to turn around and give Okafor away.

I was just basing this off of rumor about k9 for Okafor

Hornets do it to dump salary for free agent market maybe next year

Clips do it for a better center and a Noc

Kings do it because..well its Camby and Kaman

You may be right about clips though.

.See where is Ed to keep me in my place about getting another center when i need him!

Got it

And my discontent is not aimed at you. But the Okafor rumor was a one-time, short lived rumor (unlike the info that was coming out of Golden State regarding S-Jax, for example). And if you look at the Hornets payroll, this deal does not make them players in next year’s free agent market, so they would basically be doing it as a mult-year salary dump. This only a few months after they obtained him for a shorter contract? Makes no sense.

And I understand that you think that Okafor is worth $29 million more than Camby. My guess (and it’s just a guess) is that the Sterling-run Clippers don’t see it the same way.

It’s an ambitious trade idea, but I would be shocked if the Clips and Hornets would be interested in this deal.

We're always slow to begin.

Last two seasons, the attendance numbers are much better during the middle and end of the season. The stadium doesnt get pacled till after football season. Even saying that we had a good attendance record, and stadium was at near capacity.

Those reports are usually fabricated by people trying to put the hornets in a tough negotating position.Forbes said we made a small profit last year even though we are a low value team. We’ll be fine as long as we DONT make bonehead moves like trading a good salary for an expiring contract and a soft center (hawes) thereby alienating cp3.

by section214 on Dec 12, 2009 10:00 PM PST up reply actions

wrong foot. my apologies.

First of all, this is my fault . I started this unnecessarily by calling the guy soft. I shouldn’t have gone there. I have great admiration for the players and the fans of Sacto, as I hope I have displayed by my constant attempts to poach your players.

Let me just say I don’t think that is a trade of equal value. It is hard to get player like Okafor. And even though K9’s contract puts us in a better financial position, we will still be over the cap, and our ability to get a starting quality big will be limited.

Hawes has several talents, but being quick footed isn’t one of them. Pairing him with an equally slow David West prevents us from adequately guarding against the pick and roll, or stretch 4’s. It also eliminates any chance of a fast break, which wastes CP’s skills.

This deal is much different then even the OKC trade accepted by the Hornets last year. The reason being that at the time we also had 13 million dollars in expiring contracts, and the ability to offer 2 first round picks to any team looking to shed a big. We no longer have that ability because we need our picks for the wings, and we have traded our expirings.

Also, as a team that constantly has to fend crap trades (Kevin Martin for a bag of peanuts, and Raef Lafrentz’s corpse), I hope you can understand my ire. Part of it is just the natural overvaluing of one’s own assets, but I think a large part of it is due to teams, and their fans underestimating the intellegence, value, and most importantly negotiationg power of other teams.

We have been disappointing this year, and we are a small market team. Thus we must be having a fire sale. No one would try a trade like that with the Blazers. A team much loved by the media, or even Philly, a team in much worse financial shape then the Hornets, but who are in a larger better respected market.

Also there seems to be no thought as to how the pieces fit together (in my opinion the worst part about many potential trades
, and why I am so confused by people who think it is a good idea to pair twin beanpoles Bosh and Noah together).

Okafor and Thompson would be a perfect match, but unless there is a way to get us a big of equal value back, or at least one with potential to be a good compliment to D West, then this move doesn’t work.

by jdpourciau on Dec 12, 2009 10:39 PM PST up reply actions

And on this I agree with you 100%

My whole thing with the Okafor trade has been why would the Hornets salary dump a guy that they traded for just a few months earlier? Chandler was the shorter contract, so why would the Hornets have made the deal if they were in such financial peril?

We face the same crap here with people all over the country thinking that we need to fire sale Kevin Martin. It’s ludicrous.

Okafor is worth more than expiring, that’s for sure. And if the Hornets can’t get fair value for him, they should retain him. Okafor may not be the cure for the Hornets woes at this moment, but he sure is not the cause. Trading him for expiring does not create enough cap space for you to be players in the free agent market next year, so what would be the point?

SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!

by section214 on Dec 12, 2009 10:52 PM PST up reply actions

Firesaling Kevin Martin is ridiculous for a number of reason's

Look across NBA rosters, and you’ll see lots of players making more than Kevin Martin. Lots & Lots & Lots more. On the face of things, even knowing what I know about Okafor as a player, do you think that Okafor is more valuable to the Kings than Kevin Martin would be? My feeling is no. (This could be debated, however, as anything, by the more interested.)

People get in such up & arms over salary concerns with the Kings, but really, on the face of things, the Kings don’t have major salary concerns. Francisco Garcia, Beno Udrih and Andres Nocioni are, without a doubt, the worst contracts the Kings now have beyond the summer of 2010. The Kings haven’t payed luxury tax since 2003-04 which, by the way, is the last time the Kings were even remotely close to a championship. (In fairness, the team did get lucky luxury tax wasn’t triggered the following season. Since, however, the team has avoided the luxury tax with the moves they have made.)

As far as Okafor’s value, there are people like jdp that would obviously like more for Oka4 than just an expiring contract. But, if the Hornets were bottoming out, that would be a good reason to dump Oka4’s contract now. Consider the following (assuming the Kings traded for Okafor):

  1. It would save the Hornets some luxury tax this season (it would likely be about 2 million of luxury tax, and given the Hornets are currently about 3.2 million over the luxury tax line, that isn’t an insignificant number)
  2. It would likely save the Hornets from having to pay luxury tax next season (or at the very least make it so that a minor deal would allow the team to get under the tax line)
  3. The 2010 draft is stocked with big talent, and that makes it easier to let a player like Oka4 go

Now, I don’t think the Kings want Okafor (his money really—I think they would have done the deal if Okafor had a year less on his deal and about 30 million remaining—but he doesn’t) for reasons I’ve already stated, but another big deal: They see the opportunity to get another young big in the upcoming draft if they happen to fall in the 1-10 range. Plus, I’m sure the Kings would love to acquire Tyrus Thomas is the right deal came along.

I’d much rather Geoff Petrie take the risk on another talented young player for much cheaper than buy a solid, a bit overpaid big on the market. That’s the whole problem with a player like Kenny Thomas’ contract. Yes, it’s attractive to teams who want to dump salary. The problem is that salary isn’t usually attractive to the team that has to pay for it.

gotta disagree

First of all they would have done the deal if it was actually offered. No question. As good as the Kings have been, I don’t think they will be in a low enough position to draft a quality center in the near future. And that’s a good thing! But this deal wasn’t offered, it was a rumor that I believe was started by the Kings to get the word out that they were in the market for a 5.

For the Hornets, this doesn’t make snese because there aren’t any big name centers in this draft. It’s a great draft, but it is stocked with wings and 4’s. Aldrich is the only 5 really worth drafting in the lottery and even that isn’t saying a whole lot.

You are talking about THE hardest position to fill in the L. Period. In which case our hopes rest on being bad enough to draft Aldrich who has the exact same problems that Hawes does (slow foot speed), and thus is no better equipped to stand next to D West.

Not to mention, the Center position is one of the hardest to learn, and assuming we even got a center talented enough to be a starter, by the time they got a clue as to what they were doing, CP is already out of town.

We simply do not have the benefit of a long term growth plan. Therefore, trading our bigs requires serious return in value. Not getting value in return alienates our star, and the biggest ticket draw that the Hornets have.

The Hornets know that they would lose more morning if CP leaves then paying to put a proper team around him. So it is an economic decision. It just happens to be the exact opposite of the one everyone thinks we will make.

by jdpourciau on Dec 13, 2009 9:06 AM PST up reply actions

In the rational world

PG and center are the two hardest positions to draft and to learn. I’d guess that if NewOrl decided to break their roster down for a year or two the candidates are:

Posey, Songalia, Peterson and yes, D West.
You can forget Peja this year, no chance.
You don’t give up CP3 (ever!) and probably for the reasons above, the difficulty of finding a good C, Okafor either.

If I was NewOrl I’d do just about everything I could to lose all those guys for expirings and prospects and hope that some good young pieces were back in place by the time CP3 comes up for his contract. So, trade D West for an expiring and a prospect or pick? I’d say yes. On the other guys, anything to get rid of those $$.

I agree

Except I do think we can turn our expirings into something of value.

The benefit of having CP is that we don’t need all stars at the wings, just jump shooting defenders, one of whom needs to be able to handle the ball.

As for D West, the more I see of him the more worried I get about his D. I think one of these new long lanky hybrid guys would work well next to Mek. I guy who can run the floor, and hit the pick and pop j, defend the pick and roll, and switch on guards. That kinda thing.

Luckily there are alot of guys around who fit that mold, much like what we need from our wings. The draft is full of both types of players, and there a few free agents/ backups who also can do this.

Here's another 3-team deal...
To SAC: Jeff Foster, 2nd Round Pick 2010 (via NYK)

To NYK: T.J. Ford, Kenny Thomas

To IND: Al Harrington, Jared Jeffries, Sean May

Kings get a veteran center (with just one more year on his contract) to come off the bench and a draft pick (probably between 31-35) for Thomas’ expiring contract.

Knicks get more cap room for 2010 by unloading Jeffries’ contract, and add a speedy point guard (expiring also) to run D’Antoni’s offense.

Pacers get Harrington (expiring) back to help while Granger is out, and Jeffries, a former-Hoosier to provide some depth behind Murphy. With Foster gone, May could also get a chance to prove he’s worth keeping around…

I love the idea of Bosh, JT, DG, TE and BU or Speedy with OC, SH, FG coming off the bench, we need to think about future dollars and does CB handcuff us more than help us should we get a decent big in the draft.. remeber All of our young guys will command pretty godd dollars in 2-4 years. Detroit did a damn good job of having a lot ove very good players with no real stars and stayed very competitive for a a while..

Ok how about this for a trade:

3 team trade between Bulls, Wizards and Kings

Chicago Recieve: A Blatche

Wizards Recieve: K9, Noc, Sergio

Kings Recieve: Caron Butler, Tyrus Thomas, JaVale McGee

Reasons:

Chicago wants to move TT, but not take a lot back in return. So they pay an extra 4.5 over 2 more years and gets a serviceble PF

Wizards need a PG so they can Move Arenas to 2 guard as noted HERE under the Caron segment, so they get a speedy PG who is on his way up, they get a good 3 man in Noc, and an expiring to help take the edge off of Noc’s 3 year contract

Kings: Here I go again with big men (Try to stop me this time Ed): Well of course TT has been talked about here and I think would be a great back up to JT, We get our back up center iun Mcgee (Seeing how wizards have been playing Haywood as starter and hes a cheap contract is a great way to back up Spencer and they get CB to fill in for Noc’s spot with better scoring and a better overall player.

We are sending out : 17.9 million
                Receiving: 16.0 million
IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS
2010: We pay 5.313 million beyond the trade more for Butler and Mcgee..I am definitely willing to do this for a great SF and a great Backup(Possibly starting?) center.
2011: we lose 4.2 million (From Noc’s Salary(6.65M) to Mcgee’s salary(2.5M) for a great Backup(Possibly starting?) center. By this time we have 2 drafts and plenty more Free agents to go and if Mcgee is showing more promis then Hawes..who knows what we do!

Of course I always look forward to constructive Criticism and pookeys (LOL). I’m verklempt, talk amongst yourselves..

Or a different way for this is if we lock up sergio

Then we look at it this way

Chicago Recieve: A Blatche

Wizards Recieve: K9, Beno

Kings Recieve: Caron Butler, Tyrus Thomas, JaVale McGee

And this still works in trade machine but i just dont know what to do with Noc at the moment except play him behind Caron
We are sending out : 14.8 million
                Receiving: 16.0 million

IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS
2010: We pay 5.508 million beyond the trade more for Butler and Mcgee..I am definitely willing to do this for a great SF and a great Backup(Possibly starting?) center.

2011: we lose 4.7 million (From Beno’s Salary(7.23) to Mcgee’s salary(2.5M) for a great Backup(Possibly starting?) center. By this time we have 2 drafts and plenty more Free agents to go and if Mcgee is showing more promis then Hawes..who knows what we do!
