There's been some discussion that of all the big FA available, maybe Chris Bosh has a slight possibility of coming to SAC.
Read here:
In which Raptor Republic makes a pretty convincing argument that Chris Bosh IS a MAX salary player, something I've never (and may not still) been convinced of.

Yeah I knew he was good and I really liked him when he was in college.

His current pro career is somewhat of a surprise. IF he is obtainable then what do we give up? JT or Spence? I can imagine he and JT just destroying the offensive glass over and over. Truehoop had a really good article today on diminishing returns in basketball. To summarize the conclusions defensive rebounds are subject to diminishing returns and offensive rebounds are not.

In a trade, they'd want both an expiring, a very good player and a 1st rd pick (or two?)

Its tough unless you have a contract agreed to in advance.

Would he come here as a FA? Probably only if the Miami’s, Chicago’s etc didn’t happen. I think we’d be well down his wish list.

I think K9, Hawes/JT and maybe a protected pick.

That would be fair in my opinion. Maybe we could include Nocioni and pick up some salary relief.

It's hard to argue with the numbers

but I still believe he is not a franchise player. That being said, I would absolutely love to have him on my team. He will command max money anyway so I have no problem paying that if it means he plays for Sac along Reke and our other young players. He could easily move us up in the West to contenders within a couple years.

I think that there’s only a seleced few that truly, without a doubt, should earn max money (Bron, Kobe, D Wade, to think of a few) but because of the way this league works there are many others that will get that much money. I have no problem with it, most players are overpaid. Whether we like or not, most players in this league are making more $$ than their game calls for (not in real life terms but NBA terms). To me, to sign good players, you most likely need to overpay to outbid your opponent. That’s how I see it anyway…

I would trade

Martin & Hawes for Bosh. Then the Raps would be the softest team ever. I’m not calling Martin & Hawes soft just that they are finesse players who might have the desire to play tough but just are physically unable to. Could you imagine a starting 5 of Calderon, Martin,Hedo,Bargnani, & Hawes? I’d like to see that team play the dubs. We have a player who has the killer instict Bosh doesn’t have his name is Tyreke Evans

by allbenji's on Dec 7, 2009 9:08 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

All I can say is wow!

I have to be honest, I had no idea that Bosh’s numbers were so bold and established in excellence. I would love to get a player like him to help hold down the paint and score inside.
My only questions are:

1) Does he post-up or shoot outside more often?

2) what is his defense like against other big men?

3) I read in a comment earlier (though I cant find it now) that if we got Bosh we could sign him for 20 million more than any other team so we could keep him in Sac, such as we did with Webber. Is that true and how?

by kwill on Dec 7, 2009 9:23 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

1) According to 82games.com 52% of his shots are jumpers and 48% comes inside. But he has a much higher fg% from inside.
2) As far as defense, the Toronto defense is almost 5 points worse when he’s off the floor and the offense is about 7.5 points worse. So the team is much better on both ends of the floor when he’s in.
3) The reason teams can sign there free agents for more money than other teams is because of a thing called bird rights. Essentially, we could offer Bosh 1 more year and more money than other teams, and we also don’t have to pay attention to the cap. Hope its clearer for you, pookey could probably explain it better.

Your answered it clearly, thanks

I can live with that distribution of inside and outside shots. The “bird rights” clarification helped. So we would have to do a sign and trade for that to apply to us? I imagine we would have to give up Martin. I think I would want to see how Martin plays with Reke for alot of games before pulling the trigger, if a trade is even possible. I think that Martin with his outside shooting will open up the middle for our two young bigs. However, his stats and the possibility of him on our team is very, very appealing.

by kwill on Dec 7, 2009 9:55 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

No, all we need to get Bosh's bird rights is to trade for him

Then we can retain him for more money than anybody else can offer him. Now a sign and trade would be different, because it would happen during the summer, Toronto and Bosh would have to agree to come to Sacramento.

He's great

But like edm7, I’m not thrilled with the idea of him as a Max guy. I think it should be reserved for the top 5 guys in the league, not the best player on every team.

I also recognize the realities however.

Yeah

I’m not sure too many would argue
LaBron
Kobe
CP3
DHoward
DWade

In some order. But he’s right in the group behind those guys.

He plays really well versus Dwight Howard.

That has no real significance, but I threw it out there anyway.

by mayfieldcol on Dec 8, 2009 2:08 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

It could also be argued that the top 10 guys deserve top dollar

That would be the top dog on the top third of the teams in the league.

List out your top ten and tell me who you would not pay top dollar to if they were on your team.

I have 11

Age is not a factor here – simply who I would be OK paying max money to today (and in no specific order):

LeBron
Kobe
CP3
Duncan
Melo
Howard
Wade
Bosh
KG
Nash
Dirk

And three more knocking on the door: Amare, Roy and Durant.

I think that this has to qualify as the worst pick ever.

Yes, the Blazers passed on Jordan and Olajuwan to pick Bowie, But injuries to Bowie helped play a role in how bad that pick became.

Pervis Ellison as a #1 pick stinks, but Sean Elliott was the best known quantity that the Kings passed over in that draft (Tim Hardaway went much later in the 1st round that year if memory serves – 15?)

But the Pistons had Anthony, Bosh and Wade on the board, and they chose Darko. That is just an incredibly bad pick.

Blazers didn't pass on Olajuwon

They passed on Barkley and Jordan.

Hardaway went 14th that year

Shawn Kemp went 17th. Vlade Divac 26th!

Those lists work for me

I’m not sure I don’t like Granger more than Roy – but 11 is not allowed kids!

LaBron
Kobe
CP3
DHoward
DWade
Dirk
Carmelo
Nash
Duncan (at the end of it now though)
and I guess
Bosh and
Granger

yes - I used 11 :)

If forced, I’d pull either Bosh or Duncan off

I guess Duncan due to the mileage
