"Every time I start it’s a matchup problem. Whether it’s me at (shooting guard), I’m 6-foot-10 sticking a 6-foot-3, 6-foot-4 guy, that’s a mismatch right there. A lot of the (small forwards), I’m either bigger than them or I’m quicker than them. At (power forward), definitely, just being able to hold down like I’ve been doing on defense and offense, I’m able to drive by them and get to the rack and also find my teammates."

This
is exactly what I’ve been saying. He does have some trouble guarding the quicker twos, but a lineup of Reke, K-Mart, Donte, JT, and Hawes would create a lot of mismatches for us.

And our defense is better with Donte in and Beno out.

Gotta love that confidence
but a mismatch at PF he is not. He does not have the strength or rebounding prowess to hang with the big boys down low.
However, he does have a huge mismatch at the 2. Potentially a Tracy McGrady type mismatch eventually. It’s just too bad we have so many good players there already.

4s can't guard him either.

If he's playing the 2
That a mismatch on us as well. I don’t think he’s quick enough to guard the two position
Maybe it was more apology than boast

Consistancy
He’s a work in progress, it comes in fits and starts.
But at least we can See the progress now – thank God!

Realistically, I think small forward is the best spot for the Show
He won’t get beat by to many 3s, and he is still 6’11" and taller and quicker than the majority of players at that spot. When I think of him playing off guard I think of how Durant was out there by Carlesimo and how bad that turned out. Certainly, Donté should have the goal of being able to play 3 or 4 positions, but overall the majority of his matchups will be at small forward.
Everyone compares Greene to Rashard Lewis, and that would be nice. I think he is more suited to a Travis Outlaw type role player though; come in, play tough D, hit shots when needed, be a glue guy for this team. If Donté can focus on that, I think it would help his development a lot.

Agree with being a 3
But disagree a bit with the Outlaw. I think he can become a good shooter but he’s athletic enough to create off the dribble and attack the basket. I don’t mind the 3s but I think he has the ability to do much more than that. Whataver you think about the kid’s game (now or in the future) he has a very unique set of tools, especially for this Kings team.

all i meant
Is that right now, Greene should focus on being an Outlaw type player, rather than being a Rashard scorer. He really can score, and I really like when he mixes his penetration with a little posting up of smaller players. If SAR can teach him a little bit of those baseline post moves and an elbow jumper, Donté will be very hard to take out of any game, with the variety of situations you could put him in. But right now, to benefit this team and get more playing time, he needs to continue to improve and play tough D. The scoring will come later. In 2 years he might be averaging 20 points a game, but he doesn’t need to think about that now.

True stuff
I think that’s what has been getting him in games. That’s why he was reinserted at the end of the Indiana game, to make the steal. If he concentrates on D, good things will come.

indeed, he has proven that he can really play good D
And I trust that he will be rewarded.
I wonder if, when Martin comes back, Westphal considers starting Greene, even if Noc is around. That would help build his confidence, and you could choose who to matchup Andres with a little better. I am not too worried about Nocioni’s energy off the bench – in fact I think he would play better because he would realize this is his future unless he plays well enough to be traded to a contender.

That's a fair question
and I honestly have no idea. What I know is that when Speed comes back, Westphal is going to have even more options. Noc could play more backup 4 (move JT to the 5), same for Greene. Omri could come in and help out at the 2, 3, or 4. The coaching staff is going to have many weapons and it’ll just be a matter of how they use them. Can’t wait…

Travis Outlaw
Has so far not become a consistant shooter except from 3.
(yes, I KNOW we’re all supposed to drool over every Portland player)
I’d hope for more.
