Atleast...

Richard Jefferson got me 23 and 8 for fantasy basketball..

But would have been nice to see Tyreke hit 20 points. Puts a smile on my face whenever he does.

I know you're all sick of moral victories, but...

the Kings were generally competitive with a profoundly veteran team. Hopefully some of the Spurs’ discipline rubs off, particularly closing quarters. And though we’re all a little bit sick of hearing it, once again our guys competed for 48 minutes and provided a wildly exciting product. Still love this team. Now, let’s beat the shit out of the T’Wolves.

Thoughts on the game

*Spurs 8-9 from Downtown. Unacceptable.
*Kings 6-13 from Free Throw line. Unacceptable.
*Nocioni is the latest to suffer from Desmond Masonitis. He thinks he’s a go-to guy or something at times and really forces the issue.
*Tyreke had a solid game until then end, when it seemed (to me at least) he tried to force the issue to get his 20 points.
*Spencer had a good game all-around and I think I would have liked to see more of him.
*JT had a nice game for going against Duncan
*Omri was awesome. What back problems?
*Spurs have way too many weapons and we had no answer for Richard Jefferson or Tony Parker. Although Donté played much better defense against Jefferson than Noc did.

Should be 8-15 from the FT line. Still unacceptable.

Omri over Noce, most of the time.

Agreed that Noce is jacking them up with no regard to how hot or cold he is (of course, that’s his reputation). PW needs to yank Noce quickly when off and inert Omri. I think Omri should start. He brings everything Noce does, and is better on O (more consistent).

The Donte-Casspi Line
Spencer had a good game all-around and I think I would have liked to see more of him.

I don’t know, I’d kind of like to see more of Donte and Casspi together in there with Tyreke, Beno and JT. Scrappy, athletic, lots of size and speed and shooting.

I read an article about that

Rick Barry told Shaq he should underhand because it would improve his percentage and Shaq told him to Natt off or something. Its funny, because Shaq could have been even more dominant if he could hit his free throws at even a 70% rate.

From being mentioned as a top-5 guy all time. There were many times he had to be pulled in the 4th quarter of close games…I can’t think of another superstar you could say that about.

The road is unkind

But I can’t get too worked up about the Kings’ road record currently. I went and did a little drunk math – the combined overall record of the Kings road opponents this season is 113-92. The home record for that group of opponents is 73-30.

The home schedule hasn’t been too rough, but the opposite has been true on the road. I think you’ll see this team get some road wins against the weaker sisters of the league.

And the Giants were only supposed to be given territorial rights temporarily while they had a ballot measure on building their own stadium in San Jose way back when.

This guy thought it was a slam dunk that Selig was going to make sure that loophole was closed and allow the A’s to proceed on to San Jose.

free throws and turnovers, god please limit those so we can steal one of these games at the end

Yep yep

We talk about it a lot here – if you are going to win games against good teams on the road, you can’t just play hard and play well for most of the game. You HAVE to limit turnovers, and you HAVE to hit your free throws. I would think both of those issues are correctable, especially for the younger players.

Interesting stats for Evans

Month by month assists / turnovers:

October – 3.3 / 2.7
November – 5.1 / 3.3
December – 6.2 / 2.2

It will be interesting to see if the assist trend continues to climb – and if his decision making continues to be solid.

All in all, a great game

San Antonio played very well, and yet they couldn’t put our scrappy troop of neophytes away. Damn, Casspi can shoot. Lots of silly mistakes, and Tyreke kind of folded down the stretch with his “take over the game” effort, but he sure had a dynamic third quarter performance and those final quarter heroics are on the way.

PW did everything he could to win this game, happy Pookey?

I thought his decision to insert Beno for Noc early in the 1st, was the right thing to do. Noc continued to be in a shooting slump, and it seemed to affect his defense. I also liked the front line of Donte, Omri, & JT down the stretch.

I’m upset with the FT shooting but I’m much more upset with the FT discrepency. The Kings average 26 FT’s a game and only got to the line 15 times in this game. Let’s keep it fair Refs. I was also surprised that the Kings had so few 3pt attempts, especially in the 4th quarter. They average 18 3pt shots a game but only took 13 against the Spurs. I really expected more kickouts to Donte & Omri after penetration from Tyreke.

I don’t think Tyreke was stat building in the 4th. I think he was just worn down at the end of a 4 game in 5 days schedule. There was one picture of him on the bench and you could see his chest heaving trying to catch his breath.

I would also like to thank Kfan & Edm7 for their support in the game thread. Double back bro taps to the both of you.

Tyreke

I just think he has a lot of confidence, and after his third-quarter highlights figured he could get more the same. But the Spurs forced him into some tough shots, and that turnover sealed the deal. I think he’s looking for wins, not stats, although I am sure he is aware of the numbers.

Beno's fault

He needed to shoot a few 3s
:)
He was just great again – but I’d have liked to see them run some plays for him down the stretch (I don’t remember any?) when so many were tired – his shot has been so solid.

We scored a ton of points in the paint in the 1st half.

May be why we shot fewer 3s. I’ll trade 3 pointers for layups any day.

Yep, we outscored the Spurs 62 to 48 in the paint

and we we’re close in fast break pts 24 to 28, which might be more astounding.

Omri and Donte both hit their 3’s, and Noc & Tyreke missed 3’s all in the first 6 miniutes of the 4th. But, the only 3 that we attempted in the final 6 minutes of the game was a miss by Tyreke. So, yes, instead of Tyreke, I would have preferred to see Beno, Donte, or Omri putting up about 4 or 5 3pt shots in those last 6 minutes.

Didn't see the game as Broadband was acting up

So whatever you tell me about the game is far more than I witnessed HT.

Sorry to hear you missed the game

For a lose it was a very uplifting experience. PW went with a shorter rotation, playing the young guys extended minutes. If it wasn’t for the outstanding 3pt shooting of the Spurs and the more than favorable calls (or no calls) by the Refs, the Kings might have won. Either way the Spurs know that they are in for a battle when they come to Sac.

I didn’t hear this personally, but in the post game analysis, Peaches said that after the game Ginobili had some pretty nice things to say about the Kings. How tough & competetive they are, and how they are going to suprise a lot of teams.

We’re still blowing defensive assignments, cheat to far off 3pt shooters, multiple players going to help at the same time and leaving 2 men open, poor pick & roll defense, and slow to help. But, really only technique issues and not skill issues so it’s something that will be worked out in time with experience.

Tyreke’s game looked a little off even in the start. Just a little sluggish, and had a difficult time staying in front of Parker. And, really got burned on the pick & rolls. Noc’s shooting slump continues, but what hurt more was his inability to stay with Jefferson. I still think Noc cheats off his man too much to try and help in the paint. JT & Spencer held their own with Duncan & Blair, and Beno defended Parker as well as anyone on the Kings. Plus he took 2 outstanding charges that stopped the Spurs momentum. Omri & Donte at the 3 & 4 were outstanding. I really like the front court of JT, Omri & Donte when were not going up against huge PF’s. A lot of length quickness and energy. Omri abused Genobili on one fast break where he swung the ball out to Genobili’s right with his left arm causing Genobili to move right for the steal, only to have Omri swing the ball to his right hand for a fingertip layin basket. Really sick.

As usual

I hope you are right. This team’s progress is encouraging.

Any word

of when Martin/Garcia are back?

Martin was estimated 20 games….so end of the month??

Then Garcia should be ready for Feb?

I like how the team is playing now…tough…heart, spirit, excitment….but these experienced duo, will add another dimension once they get back into the fold and find thier touch…

Spewing we lost last night though…would’ve been a nice reward for some effort.

NBA players this season Averaging 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists:

Lebron, Dwyane and Tyreke.

Add in less than or equal to 3 TOs per game and it’s only Tyreke.

That's because he's a point guard :)
