Summer of Hedo?
Ok, I realize I am putting the cart before the horse here, BUT, if the Kings can pull off any of the aforementioned salary dump trades (getting rid of brad, k9 (woof!), salmons, beno, whatever) and clear some cap space for this summer, why not make a run at brother hedo?
I really don't see the Kings being any type of a player in the 2010 bonanza, in fact all I really see happening is the Kings taking a few swings and missing at bigtime free agents, the Maloofs getting frustrated and saying "fine just take whoever's left" and the Kings paying 15 million to Joel Prizbella or some other idiot.
With that logic, this summer should be the Kings makeover summer. Again, this is presupposing we can clear a bunch of space in the next two weeks. But again, if we could add Hedo and a point guard while managing to dump 20 mil in salary (wishful thinking on a starbury deal) we would still have room to add someone else.
Questions and comments of course welcome, but first I am posing one question for the field: How much do you think Hedo will command on the free agent market this summer?

Nah...
Adding Hedo would only get us a few more wins next season, if that. His best years are already behind him.

I like it
Assume the Kings clear out Miller, Thomas, Saloms, Moore, Udrih, and we got back Marion and a bunch of youth. Then, sign Hedo for 10 million, Odom for 10 more, and resign Marion for whatever he’s worth. Then, the Kings will consist of Rubio, Martin, Spencer Hawes, and 5 6’10" swingmen/forwards (the three above, JT and Greene). The Kings talk Mike D’Antoni over from the Knicks (fuck the Knicks), and win 45 games next year, but they get narrowly edged out of the playoffs in a tight western conference and win the #1 pick a-la-Chicago. Summer of 10, the Kings pick up TWO MORE swingmen on the cheap, putting them over the top and into championship mode, and the number one pick (a center with passing skills, obviously).
Boom Tho is signed to document this entire adventure. Chris Webber returns to the Sacramento sidelines as a coach, Bobby Jackson becomes a popcorn vendor (BJax CornJacks, it becomes a national phenomenon), Peja signs with the Kings for the minimum to go on one last championship run (giving us ANOTHER 6’10" swingman), Brad Miller comes back to serve as Scot Pollard the country remix, and Steve Nash comes in to be Rubios backup (but his back only lets him play 15 mins a night, but they’re all good minutes). Kings average 125 pointspg for the season, led by Martins 38 (though he loses the MVP slot to Lebron, who’s averaging 60 because he’s the only player the Knicks had on their roster… still though, scoring 60 when you’re getting quintuple-teamed? impressive).
Several championships are won (beating the Lakers in the WCF perennially, including the first year when Vlade runs into the middle of the court during the halftime show to rip off his Lakers Jersey exposing those gold King jerseys, everybody is confused at first, but once they realize what he’s doing the stadium erupts into cheers), Sacramento flourishes, the Maloofs decide to pay for their own damn stadium, and pookey wakes up happy one morning, inexplicably.
So to answer your two questions: If the abovementioned happens, let’s sign Hedo. $10 million or so.

Salmons (ability + salary) > Hedo
We already have a 6-months younger SF who averages 18-4-3 and is only paid 5 million dollars per year until 2011. Giving up him to get Hedo next year when he’s 31 to average same or worse numbers with double the salary is crazy.
What we need is a potential star and a couple of young talents like Bass, Marvin Williams or even Hinrich plus high pick rookies.

Well said
I love Hedo’s game, but this pretty much sums up the situation.

He's been getting too heavy
if he doesn’t address that his game will go downhill soon. Of course D Howard gives him a lot of cover.

Not into Hedo TMH
But, I think who how the Kings use any potential market to their advantage is very important.

on a kinder less sarcrastic note
Hedo is a wonderful player and fits well into the Orlando offense and is part of the reason they are winning so often this season. As a player to build on, he is not a good choice. His defense is suspect and his rebounding at 6’10" is not acceptable on a team such as the Kings. Making Hedo your highest paid, or second highest paid player is not a sensible choice, even for this talented, beloved former King.

Ok
All fair points, but am I way off base to say that we have no chance of doing anything in the summer of 2010 and as such shouldn’t kid ourselves trying to set ourselves up for that? While in ’09 we have a punchers chance at free agents?

I still think the greatest chance for redemption TMH
Is the 2 drafts in 09 & 10.

My opinion
Hedo is not much better than Salmons. He is not a great defender. I don’t think the Kings should use their free agent money on a player that isn’t much, if any, different than a player we have.
Kings rule! (They are royalty - right?)

I'm with you
I think mid-season + worst season ever = boredom, which = ridiculous desperation ideas, which usually = more losing, which is why I don’t = nba gm. That is a pretty annoying paragraph to read.

Remember when we had Artest and Bibby?
We still sucked! Hedo is older, and arguably less talented than Ron Ron. If the Kings can’t land the second coming of the Richmond-Webber trade, they’ll just have to develop guys like Shock, Buckets, and Hawes along with the new draft picks
