Sacramento has made a series of overtures on Stoudemire – with discussions at the ownership level. Also, the Kings have the intriguing asset of a pick that could turn into the No. 1 selection in the June draft. The Suns are talking with multiple teams, but still haven’t been blown away with any offer for Stoudemire.

Looks like Cavs tried to get him
and failed. If they had succeeded, they probably would have been the Championship team for the next 4 years. Williams, Pavlocic, James, Stoudemire, Ilguaskas. That would be a terrifying team.
Wojnarowski makes the point that Phoenix might be most interested in OUR first rounder, not Houston’s. If you’re Petrie, and can get Stoudemire without giving up JT/Hawes, but have to throw in the first rounder, do you do it? For me its a no.
Oddly
I’d do it. Is Griifin likely to be better than Stoudemire (asking. ‘cuz I don’t know). Is Rubio likely to be better, and is he even coming out?
But the pick and JT or Hawes is probably too rich for my blood.

Now that you say it like that
I might have to agree with you. Although I really like Rubio, I don’t think he’s coming out (gah, Exhibit G STD!), and every time I see Griffen, I just feel he’s a more active Michael Beasley. He’ll definitely fit in the league and could be in the upper-echelon of power forwards, but he probably doesn’t have the upside or proven talent of Amar’e.
To be more precise, if I knew for a fact that Rubio was coming out in this draft, and that we would be able to pick him, then no I would not trade that pick for Amar’e. If it was for Griffen, then maybe. Any lower than that and hell yes in this weak draft.
Wow, really?
You have a proven All-Star (4 time) that you can hate, think he is dumber than a box of rocks, but he is PROVEN. You can guess that Griffin is a bona fide stud – he is Elton Brand, Carlos Boozer, a tall Charles Barkley or he is Ike Diogu, Marcus Fizer. I don’t know, no one knows but he is a question mark. Rubio is a question mark. The Kings might get the 3rd pick, or Rubio stays in the old country and you get the 2nd pick. You now have given up Amare for Greg Monroe or James Harden. They might be incredible and awesome as well. I think you get my point.

holy crap I am lame
I wanted to cancel that post. Pookey, Bill Simmons, the Phoenix website – they all dislike Amare. I just don’t see it for a first or second pick that may or may not pan out. The lack of action on this guy (Amare) is telling. I am will bite my lip, sit on my hands whatever and just not agree with you all.

If he's so great why do they want to trade him?
Seriously. If they are looking to rebuild and Amare is the stud that so many around here think he is, wouldn’t it make sense to trade Nash, Shaq, Hill, hell everyone except Amare and rebuild around your 26 year old “franchise player”?
The fact that he’s the one they are trying to move says a lot, IMO.

What it says
is that Sarver is a moron.
I think the Kings should identify morons and try to deals with them.

And if it takes the Maloofs
to cozy up to Sarver as “owner buddies,” play that chip as well, just so it’s Petrie who is orchestrating the deal in the end.

What track record is that?
The earning of hundreds of millions in banking and real estate? The owning of an NBA franchise? CoolCat’s brilliant analysis displayed in his posts on this board?
Maybe it was the Marion(15.87 PER this season) trade for Shaq(21.39 PER this season)?
Maybe he knows something you don’t too.

How's that Marion trade working out?
The Suns are now in fire sale mode. Trading away Rudy Fernandez and 2 #1s for cash isn’t helping them much now either.
It’s not all about PER dude.
Mambo King
Cheap? Yes
A moron? I doubt it.
Does he know something about Amare that we don’t that could be important? I’d say the chance is just as good that he does as it is that he’s just a fool.

Look at what he's done recently
And I didn’t call Sarver a moron BTW. I just think he’s pulling the strings, and Kerr’s not exactly up to the task either. That’s a front office in disarray.
So what do you think is the reason Stoudamire’s numbers are down so much this year? The easiest and most obvious answer is the addition of a guy that chews up all of the working space near the basket. We do not have that type of player on our roster – and I think Amare would thrive if he came here.
Mambo King
I know you didn't call him a moron
but that was what I was responding to with the “or he knows something you don’t” comment that you countered.
I made no comments about Amare’s numbers, and no predictions about how he might or might not play if he came here.
I just questioned why they would trade him rather than rebuild around him, if he is so good.

Why didn't Orlando keep Shaq?
Why didn’t Dallas keep Nash?
NBA front offices make dumb decisions on a regular basis.

Orlando didn't pony up all of the money (supposedly)
It’s not like Orlando “traded” Shaq.

Sarver's no rocket scientist
That much is clear. And Stoudamire gives them the best chance to decrease their payroll and build from the ground up (draft picks, young players).
Mambo King
Remember, people said the same thing about Webber...
People were really down on him as a person and a teammate before he came to Sacramento.
Also, Phoenix made a huge blunder trading Marion for Shaq because they now need to shed salary to stay under the luxury tax, and Shaq’s deal doesn’t come off the books until next year (unlike Marion’s). Because the luxury tax will be lower next year (which caught many GMs by surprise), their owner (Sarvor) is forcing Kerr to deal salary. The only contracts big enough to do the trick are Stoudemire, Shaq and Nash. No one wants Shaq’s salary and Nash is the face of the franchise, making Stoudemire the choice by default.
Had they not made the deal for Shaq, they could have just let Marion go or dealt him for picks, expirings and young players and kept Amare. It was just a terrible move that is going to set them way back.
I totally would trade the #1 pick this year if we didn’t have to give up Hawes or Thompson. If we were to get Stoudemire now, we would also have a chance to win more ballgames, and we could end up with a pick in the 7-13 range, which probably will get you a player that will never amount to more than a borderline starter. Sure, that pick could become an all-star, but chances are slim that the player picked in that spot will ever be as good as Amare. I would even throw in Salmons, or the Houston pick to get the deal done.
- pick, Salmons, Bobby Jackson’s expiring, Sheldon’s expiring, Douby’s expiring for Stoudemire. Don’t know if it works salarywise, but it should be close. The only problem is we are taking on salary next year, which the Maloof’s have said they won’t do. Petrie would probably have to shed salary elswhere (i.e., convince Cleveland to take Brad Miller for Wally) to get the Maloofs to sign off on it.
I'd rather
Give up Hawes or Thompson than the pick. I wouldn’t give up one of those guys and the pick, unless it was top 3 protected.
Shut up and Coach
And I respect your opinion
I just have a different one. The fact that Phoenix is shopping Amar’e so aggressively is telling to me.
That said, I’d still want him for our team, but only in the right trade.
As for me being infected by Pookey
We disagree almost as much as we agree. He doesn’t like Griffen, and loves Rubio. I would love to get either.
I also wouldn’t mind getting Amar’e, just not for that pick.
I don't like Griffen over Rubio
But if Griffen is there and Rubio isn’t, you have to take Griffin probably.

I would
And it’s all about Rubio potentially staying in Spain.
I do have to admit it’d be crushing to see Phoenix end up with our #2 pick, and Rubio coming over to be a multiple-time All-Star for them. That’s the one worry I have — not that it’ll turn into #1 and Blake Griffin will have a 18/10 career. (Hello, J.T.)
Something about the mysticism of the point guard, and specifically the mysticism of Rubio.
I
agree with you. Although it would be crushing, if Rubio doesn’t come up, the sting wouldn’t be so bad. Plus, as much negative stuff I hear about him, Amare’s a proven guy. Although his D sucks, if they made that trade, I wouldn’t mind it at all. As long as JT or Hawes didn’t go with.
This is why
You protect the pick. Top 3 or even top 2 protection might be enough this season.
Shut up and Coach
That's exactly wher eI'm at too
That’s why I would wait until after the lottery to make this kind of trade. Once we know if Rubiois coming and what number pick we get, we can mke a better decision whethrto trade the pick.

OK -
Replying to your first reply: After, and when it became apparent that Owens really, really didn’t want to come here.
Replying to your second reply: It mattered as much then as it matters now, at least to those rooting for that and this team.
Replying to your third response: I say that the odds of getting an all star caliber player is greater through acquiring a four-time all star than it is spending the pick (which could still be somewhere between 1 and 7) on the current crop of rookies. The odds shorten if you have the #1 (Griffin, Rubio) and lengthen as you drop down (Thabeet/Monreo/Hill/Harden/Teague…).

In this case
If Petrie wants Stoudamire, then getting the Maloofs involved is a good idea. Otherwise, I’d agree with you.
Mambo King
No way in hell we trade off our first rounder
Our first rounder will have 4 years with the Kings. With Amare, he has a player option in 10-11, essentially making him a player with 1 1/2 years left on his contract.
I would hold-out
and make a play for Tyson Chandler if we pick up Rubio our defense goes up about 15 places and opens the floor for Thompson and Hawes at the 4 giving us a more effective low post game. Watch Martin’s/Cisco’s numbers skyrocket.
Don't think so
Someone else point this out, but Chandler is an absolutely GREAT piece on a playoff team with all its other pieces in place. He’s not really going to help a last place team with a bad point guard.
Shut up and Coach
Last place due to our lack of defense.
And I agree that a quality PG is a must hence the comment about Rubio. A team of
Rubio
Martin
Cisco
Thompson
Chandler
Hawes
is a good start.

I'd give them Hawes and a top 3 protected pick.
Hawes has actually regressed with increased playing time. That is a very bad sign for a young player. I personally do not see any reason for keeping Hawes. I think JT has moved to untouchable status. He has upside that is very exciting. I wouldnt deal JT for Amare and a pick. No, if they even want Hawes and a pick, I’d make that deal in a heartbeat. JT and Amare together looks to me like a very powerful front line. Jt at center and Amare at forward or visa versa. Hawes has had plenty of time to show what he has, and unfortunatly its not all star potential. JT looks to have possible future allstar potential. Amare is an allstar and probably has 5 or 6 more productive and possibly allstar years left. It’s really a no brainer. A Webber like game changer that will refill the arena, and give the Kings a legit player they can market and build around.
I have cut the Mouth and Nose out of my Paper Bag, but I am contemplating not cutting out any EYE HOLES so I don't have to watch this mess at all...
Almost with you -
But if I’m giving up Hawes (or JT), then I’m not offering anything other than expiring and Hosuton’s pick to complete the package. If that’s not enough, don’t make the deal.
