Seems a little silly to me

We are trying to save on BB’s contract? It’s a real tough one to swallow.

Also, I wonder what Francisco will think of this trade.

The doctor said I wouldn't get so many nosebleeds if I just kept my finger outta there.

Yes Kangs

But every penny saved is not necessarily a bad thing. This isn’t a big deal at all when you look at it. Brown is no loss in my opinion.

No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....

I am the stone that builder refused..I am the visual...The inspiration..That made lady sing the blues....I'm the spark that makes your idea bright.....The same spark that lights the dark....So that you can know your left from your right...I am the ballot in your box....The bullet in your gun...The inner glow that lets you know...To call your brother son....The story that just begun...The promise of what's to come...And I'm 'a remain a soldier till the war is won....

It also means that dumping a roster spot

Means something to the franchise.

Financials

Booth makes 1.14 million this season, and McCants makes 2.62 million. Shelden makes 3.33 Million ,and Bobby Brown make 442 K this season. It’s pretty much a money wash, with the savings of Brown’s potential 770 K next year. No worries is what I say. I can live with it.

Hmmmm

I like this point:

The Timberwolves and Kings have agreed in principle to a deal that will send Shelden Williams and Bobby Brown to Sacramento for Rashad McCants and Calvin Booth, two sources told ESPN.com’s Chad Ford.

The deal would give the Kings two players with expiring contracts and allow them to get Brown’s 2009 salary of $736,420 off the books for next year. For the Wolves, the addition of Williams would help replace Al Jefferson, who’s out for the season with a torn ACL.

Totally forgot about Al’s ACL.

by MITCH FRONTAGE on Feb 19, 2009 9:12 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Including Cassell and Douby who were waived to make room for the Bulls roster

You have Bobby J, Mikki’s buyout, Booth, McCants whose on the end of his rookie contract, Gooden, Simmons (who has an ending contract), and Ike Diogu (whose rookie contract, like McCants is also ending). 9 altogether when you included Cassell & Douby.

McCants

Extremely talented.

Extremely immature. Life is a video game and he’s starring in it. Picture all the worst stereotypes you can think of for NBA guys, self-absorbed, privileged, no grip on reality, focus on getting their own, etc. McCants has been the poster chiled for them to date. If he ever grows up, he’s got NBA talent for sure. Growing up is starting from absolutely, positively ground zero though.

Essentially McCants is the anti-Garcia/Nocioni when you look at the things those guys are normally given credit for.

Here is the text
Dave – Boston: Celtics get anything done?

SportsNation Chad Ford: (12:09 PM ET ) We keep hearing all morning that the Celtics were talking to the Kings about a deal for Nocioni. The Kings can move him again as long as they don’t package him with other players on their roster. The Celtics would send back Scalabrine, Tony Allen, Glen Davis and Patrick O’Bryant. However, a Celtics source says there’s nothing happening there. A Kings source, however, says it would be a possibility. I wonder why the Celtics WOULDN’T do that. Nocioni would be a great piece for them.

I doubt that a move to Celtics happens

Check out the paragraph related to the Kings and Nets talks :

Kings talked deal with Nets

I think if GP just wanted expiring contracts, he would have done the NJ deal that was on the table. It seems he likes Nocioni, which is why the Chicago deal happened instead. Well, thats my logic anyway.

by kingsfan300 on Feb 19, 2009 10:02 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yep well I don't think that was all of it either

I also think the Kings were realizing they had to dump Brad Miller sooner than later, and Nocioni was the best player they wanted whom they coudl get back for the price they were going to have to pay. I’m fine with Nocioni on this team. Which surprises me, but I’m fine with it.

what's wrong with that?

After the Bulls trade, we have a glut at forward. McCants could actually stick here as an offensive boost off the bench, backing up Martin. He showed flashes in Minny, just didn’t seem to fit. I’m intrigued about keeping him more than anyone else we got today or yesterday (want to like Ike, since he killed my Stanford Cardinal back in the day, but this is what, his 4th team? Gotta be pessimistic there)

I doubt that goes through

If I’m the Suns I do it though. Acknowledge your mistakes and truly begin the rebuilding process, which they can’t do unless Shaq’s gone. Make it Cleveland’s problem. They’ll have two quality starting centers. One will have to go to the bench or play PF.

You on the other hand make Amar’e happy and can run and gun way more.

in the role of “he hasn’t worked anywhere else, but we might as well give him the test run because we don’t have anything better to try right now” category. They didn’t think Shelden would be here long term. Nothing wrong with giving Ike the same treatment for the final 24 games.

I don't care about Gooden

Amick posted this this morning:

Consider this is a teaser for the morning (Good gracious, I hope I wake up). The Bulls-Kings deal should be just fine in terms of becoming official, but Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie indicated that Drew Gooden has a groin injury that may be problematic in terms of the physical. I don’t see it as a deal-breaker, but I’m starting to wonder what kind of shape Gooden will be in and whether he is in the rotation anytime soon.

There’s a chance the Kings might just waive Gooden.

Looks like Kings really like Nocioni

And are keeping him. According to Amick’s blog. So that Celtics deal isn’t going through, not that it would have anyway.

I love how

every time I run one of these trades on the ESPN trade machine Hollinger’s Analysis at the bottom comes back with at least (-2 Wins).

It’s like the Maloofs are tanking for #1 at the trade deadline to make sure they can’t tank on purpose for the rest of the year. And then next year they’ll just sit on the 9 players still on the books(maybe 8 if they waive Mikki).

The highest paid behind Martin. Nocioni, Thomas, Udrih, Garcia. (Great starting 5…)

If yr not happy with the results, lower yr expectations.

Looks like New York, Chicago, and OKC in a 3 way trade

Mostly a salary trade.

Marc Stein: Word is coming in that the Knicks are closing in on some new players.

It is not immediately clear if this would be two separate trades or a three-way exchange, but I’m hearing that Oklahoma City’s Chris Wilcox — who went back to the Thunder on Wednesday night when the Tyson Chandler trade was rescinded — and Chicago’s Larry Hughes are New York-bound.

To complete the transaction(s), Oklahoma City would get Malik Rose and Chicago would receive Tim Thomas, Jerome James and Anthony Roberson.

Cap space this summer:

Without a Moore buyout (which would save, what? 4Mill?) we’re at 49.6 Mill before our draft picks. Which assuming they’re high we can price in the 3.5-5 Mill category. So that means if the cap goes down to, say, conservatively 66 Mill, we have about 11Mill available for free agency this summer.

The question becomes our need and who’s available: Boozer(knee questions, we draft PG, we’re looking at about a 13Mill tag/yr, Note if Boozer can’t get this much he shouldn’t opt out), or Ben Gordon(we get Griffin in the draft, still probably cost us about 10Mill/yr). Or can we see GP just working the mid level exception ala Salmons and Moore again to fill bodies into the available roster spots…

All in all I like the flexibility we have. Bummed to lose Brown, was hoping he’d blossom next year without BJax around. We also should have bought much lower on Udrih & Garcia this summer. You’ll remember, we didn’t need to do Garcia’s deal. He might have been much cheaper this summer.

If yr not happy with the results, lower yr expectations.

Not to mention,

he seems willing to give Ben Gordon $10M/year…bwahahaha!

by PhutureKings on Feb 19, 2009 10:48 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

The question then

Is do we see the Maloofs going over the cap but below the tax threshold. This is the real line, and my understanding is that they’re different. (If I’m wrong, let me know.) And secondly who would be available at the purchase price we’re going to be able to extend. Because even with the youth movement, which I’m a fan of, we still need a little vet leadership. Looking at the team, assuming MM buyout, that burden is on Martin, Nocioni and … Thomas? We need to make a small splash in Free Agency this summer if for nothing less than the marginal benefit of a few more wins, and team building. Unless we’re just looking for back to back #1 picks…

re: Gordon, just the only significant Name player I noticed who would fit the guard position in a quick glance at those available. I’m not sure how I feel about paying him anything, just throwing ideas out there.

If yr not happy with the results, lower yr expectations.

The Kings haven't been under the cap since they signed Vlade in 99

So, in a sense, I don’t really understand your point. But I’ll try anyway.

The Kings won’t have cap room, despite Ziller saying the Kings may have 10 million in cap room. Not unless they trade their draft picks, and there’s not much point to that, unless you’re getting a better player in return. Either way they’re not having cap room for awhile.

I'd rather

have 2 back-to-back number one picks than a few more marginal wins in 2010. I think Noc could be a good enough veteran leader until we’re able to get a star free agent (whether its in 09, 10 or 11..or…whenever).

I do like Gordon, but not at a high price or even as our supposed “PG.” Then again, I definitely do not like Beno as our PG, so…

For now, I like the idea of Martin, Noc, JT & Hawes plus (hopefully) either Rubio or Griffin. If we get another good draft pick the next year, that’s a hell of a foundation. Within a year or 2, we should hopefully be able to add a quality free agent to that mix. Not bad.

I guess my only complaint (well, not my only one, but…) is that this rebuild has taken soooo long. The road to rebuilding has become the highway to Hell.

At least we know the Kings are trying & not panicking (as evidenced by the Amar’e talks). We could have had Amar’e here if we wanted to give up JT AND our 1st pick. It was too much, though.

Just Got on Lunch Break

Did I read this right? We got McCants for Shelden and Bobby? This could end up being a great deal for us. This season, McCants has been playing VERY sparingly. Why that is, I don’t know so I am not going to make any wild statements but I will go on record as saying that Rashad (if he’s not a headcase) could end up making the roster if he plays back to last year’s performance. Last year he averaged 14.9 points a game in 26 minutes while shooting 40% from 3-pt range. Is he a good defender? I’m not sure but I wouldn’t mind keeping him as a backup to K-Mart next year if he comes in and plays well. Next year, we only have K-Mart and Beno signed so he wouldn’t be a bad backup at the 1 and 2.

Kings rule! (They are royalty - right?)

Rashad

in his career to date is the ultimate prima-donna headcase. I live in MN, I’ve lived the McCants experience.

Our wildest hope is he figures out he’s on the J.R. Rider express out of the league right now, but probably he has a couple more crashes in him before he wakes up. You never know though.

I don't like McCants

It’s just a financial transaction that makes sense. I’m lukewarm on the Nocioni deal from a player standpoint, but I think it COULD work.

To be quite honest: I hate McCants and Robinson. They’re both showboat sycophantic assholes. No thanks to both. I’m not excited by the prospect of McCants actually.

In fact I wonder: What kind of problems would the Kings have created had they brought both in?

I haven't seen enough of Robinson

to hate his attitude the way I can confidently hate McCants’.

On paper, Robinson is a real good fit for the team: good shooting PG, never turns the ball over, except he’s tiny and allergic to defense.

His PER of 18 this year is impressive, he’s 24 and his PER the last two years pre-D’Antoni stat inflation was still 15+.

So I’m going entirely on paper, which of course is a terrible way to form an opinion. If his attitude is as you describe, I totally understand why you wouldn’t want him here.

Ok Let's do someting more productive rather than bicker

I like you, despite the fact you’re a republican. (Joke—Don’t care if you are/aren’t.)

What would be the point of bringing in McCants and Robinson, when they essentially do the same thing, and have the same effect with it? Wouldn’t it be redundant?

there are very few scenarios where I think McCants is on this team this summer, he’s not relevant to me.

I see Robinson as potentially Bibby-like. I guess I’m not ruling out the possibility he could be the answer at PG. The fact he’s a RFA is actually a plus because he delays having to decide what to do with him until post-draft.

So if we had gotten Robinson, your options are all there still. Get the #1 pick, take Griffin and now you decide if Robinson is the answer at PG and he costs some cash. Do we get a PG with our #1? then you probably go your seperate ways with Nate unless you get rid of Beno somehow and Nate will be pretty cheap. Do something else with the #1, then you decide whether to keep Nate or not given whoever you added and his fit.

So that’s why I was at least interested in Robinson. I agree the Jeffries contract price is ridiculous. I’m more inclined to live with that for Nate over Nocioni because I think Nate has a chance to actually be the answer at PG because he’s young and has 3yrs of 15+ PER where Nocioni is 29 and his best year was a PER of 16.

I would agree 4 3

But would you rather have Brad Miller here next year, or Kenny Thomas? (I vote Kenny.)

My point up top is simple

You can’t take on Jeffries contract to get Robinson after you already took Nocioni. And if I have a choice between the 2 deals, it’s far better for the Kings to take what they got with the Nocioni deal.

I don’t share your enthusiasm for Nate Rob though. No need to push it beyond that.

by thisismellow on Feb 19, 2009 1:05 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

It means that it blocks cap room

Say you’re 8 million under the cap, until you factor in that cap hold. The only way it goes away is if you waive a player, in this case McCants.

The only other player the Kings should even consider is Ike Diogu

And, obviously, he’s a free agent so they can always let him walk.

McCants

One thing he can do that most of the Kings can’t is get a shot just about anytime he wants it. Let’s see what happens.

I expect BJax to be here next year

He will re-sign before he resigns. Just at a (much) lower price.

I hope so

I think he brings a lot grit to the club, and we need all of that we can muster.
