Douby Tuesday

Lost in much of the shuffle of the last 48 hours was the waiving of Duincy Douby.  Here is my final tribute, Douby Tuesday (to the tune of Ruby Tuesday by The Rolling Stones).

He would never say where his game'd gone
Yesterday dont matter if its gone
While the sun is bright
On our Scarlett Knight
No one knows
His game comes and goes

Goodbye, Douby Tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When your skills change with every new day
Still Im gonna miss you...

Dont question why he needs to be Quincy
He'll tell you its the only way to be
He just cant be unchained
From a bench where nothings gained
And potential's lost
At such a cost

Theres no time to lose, I heard him say
Take your shots before they slip away
Sitting all the time
Lose your dreams
And you will lose your mind.
Aint life unkind?

Goodbye, Douby Tuesday
Who could hang a name on you?
When your skills changed with every new day
Still Im gonna miss you...

someone has to give up a 5th rec for this

What’s wrong with you people? This has gotten that RS song bouncing around in my head all day now, that’s got to be worth a 5th rec.

by ForThree on Feb 19, 2009 12:26 PM PST reply actions   1 recs

Thanks for campaigning For Three

I appreciate it, but apparently it was unnecessary.

When you posted this, I think my post had been up for something like 3 hours and already had 4 recs. 12 hours later and it’s at 10 recs. I appreciate the effort nonetheless.

I actually came up with this idea about 2 months ago, when it became clear that Douby would not be with team through the end of the season. Given that amount of time, I should have been able to make it even better.

Anyway, thanks For Three, and thanks to everyone else who rec’d this one. All jokes aside, this came from a sincere place where I will truly miss Quincy Douby. I think he represents much of what we hold so dear about a player’s potential. Particularly when we are the ones who draft him. And he represents what we fear with every draft pick; a guy who never fulfills the potential, the dream, the hope. I honeslty feel bad for Douby, and I wish him the best. Whether that be in Europe, a la Tyus Edney. Or if he can get picked up by another NBA sqaud.

Alright, seems like I’m rambling now. And I am quite drunk (natch). That’s enough for now.

Never forget: I am a complete idiot

This is great

And while I love the Rolling Stones, I wonder why Petrie didn’t just waive Cedric Simmons. From watching him ONCE, it’s obvious that he’s horrible. It makes sense that two short guards shouldn’t be on the same team (Douby and McCants), but Douby just has more talent than Simmons, McCants is all offense while Douby can play some defense, and now there’s a log jam of big man scrubs on the team!

They've done studies you know: 60% of the time, it works every time.

by submison on Feb 19, 2009 8:17 PM PST reply actions

Here's why Douby was waived

He was expendable, and they didn’t have any plans to trade him because they hadn’t found anybody. They didn’t want to waive Brown or Shelden because they wanted to trade them to Minnesota. They had to waive Cassell & Douby to make room for Simmons, Gooden, Diogu and Nocioni.

When you make a trade in season, you have to have no more than 15 roster spots. If you have 15 players on your roster, and you make a 4 for 2 trade, then you have to waive 2 players to open those spots. That’s why Douby was waived, along with Cassell.

Douby got a better break than Brown

Douby can now have an open tryout with any team.

Brown can have that this summer

I think he’s in a fine position myself. If you’re going to hang your hat on defense, you should play it. Brown hadn’t played Defense.

Well...

Bobby Brown has a job next season. Qunicy has no guarantees at all. Could be better or he could be in Italy next year. Then again, Italy beats OKC by a long shot.

by Carl on Feb 19, 2009 10:00 PM PST up reply actions

So

Even if the Kings wanted to waive Simmons, they couldn’t until they waived Douby/Cassell to open up a roster spot? I guess this is a bit of a Justin Williams thing where they should have waived Lorenzen Wright, but instead Williams had to be waived?

Whatever, best of luck to Douby and his endeavors.

They've done studies you know: 60% of the time, it works every time.

by submison on Feb 20, 2009 7:25 AM PST up reply actions

Well you have to have a roster spot for Wright to take him in the trade

That’s why Justin Williams had to be waived. Same thing with regards to Simmons vs Douby. (I’m not worried in the slightest with Douby being gone with McCants around anyway.)

He was waived to make room for the first trade that happened

Without waiving him, that would have never happened. They needed to waive somebody, and they probably wanted to wait until waiving Mikki Moore.

Clarifying

Douby is still getting paid, and he has the opportunity to try out in multiple venues. That’s a nice break – beats rotting on the end of the bench for the worst team in the NBA.

He’s into gettin’ concussions, big dunks and so-so calls.
I feel a premonition, that his draft stock’s gonna fall.
Chad Ford’s new predictions still have him drafted high.
He’s got a new excuse, for every inch lacked in height.

He’ll make you lose your senses and ignore knee and head pain.
He’ll make you make a crazy pick but he’ll make you go insane
like a bullet to your brain. Come On!

Upside, inside out he’s Griffin la vida loca
He’ll push and pull you down, Griffin la vida loca
His jersey’s Sooner red, and his eyes are close together
He will wear you out Griffin la vida loca Come On!
