Rashard McCants Maybe More than Throwaway?

Studying Petrie's best work has been making lemonade out of very talented but temperamental players like C-Webb, Bonzi Wells, etc.  While ruffle-soother Adelman might not be around, McCants was at one point the next MJ at UNC.  It seems as McCants' name has been mentioned in a lot of Kings rumors for a while so I think he is someone Petrie has targeted.   He can fill and its asking a lot for K-Mart to put up 35 a game.  I don't believe he can be any more of a ballhog than Salmons.

He's coming off of microfracture surgery his first year, so he really has been in the league about as long as Hawes.  Boning up on some Youtube clips, shoots above a 40% clip from 3 and can finish above the rim in traffic.  Granted half of his dunks seemed against the Kings, he has upside which I cannot say about the ginormous dome of Mr. Candace Parker.  To find a team that actually thinks it needs Sheldome because of Al Jeff's injury is pure genius.  Only downside is trading the classy Candace for Khloe Kardasian courtside (more Magoofs style anyway.)

How come the name Blake Griffin never comes up on this site?  I know point guard seems like the biggest need with the ineptitude of Beno but when you have the worst record, doesn't anybody think of the consensus #1 prospect especially given the uncertainty of whether Rubio comes out?  I was thinking Griffin as bust but watching some clips he does have a certain athleticism and a healthy bulk.  Is he more Dwight Howard or Glenn Robinson?  Should the Kings get him if they get #1?

It depends on the quality of his play. Same thing with Diogu.

There's a wierd anti-Griffin sentiment lurking

and those that don’t have it already know what Petrie will do with the #1. Pick Blake Freakin’ Griffin! – So mostly we talk about ‘those after him as the #1 is no lock.
Many do think Rubio but I don’t know if they Really think he’s a #1 yet or not.

What to do if we get #2 or 3?. . . . its a tough year to make that call so far.
Though we’re worrying way too soon (me too), the tournement hasn’t even started.

On your post, it seems per title to be about Mccants – then shifts to the Pick. I’d try to focus on one issue and let it play out.

You’ll have plenty of opportunity to chime in on the very very very many debates we’ll have on the draft picks and perhaps put up another fanpost of your choice on that.

(that being said I’ll go ahead and try to tackle Mccants)

My take on Mccants is that he’s been a childish headcase, I don’t know what kind of shot the team plans on giving him, no idea – and that this may just be his last chance.

With a down economy next year I think teams are likelier to spend thier extra dollars on unproven, cheaper 2nd rounders or D-league guys rather than the known problems. Problems on your bench is something teams just don’t want.

So imitate the action of the tiger!
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favoured rage.
- lend the eye a terrible aspect,

Now set the teeth - and teach them how to war!

It is just the worry that college greatness is no prediction of NBA success

look at Steve Alford, Christian Laettner, etc.

One of the best college games I had seen in years was a Gonzaga- Michigan State multiple OT battle that had Adam Morrison v. Maurice Ager with each trading tough, clutch jumpers.

As fans, we are poor predictors of NBA talent. Kevin Martin, Jason Thompson? who knew? Let’s leave those decisions to the professionals. I look at numbers – Steph Curry scores in bunchs – is he the next Morrison, or Ben Gordon? Fun to talk about, but my crystal ball is a round sphere of glass, nothing more, when comes to Griffin, Rubio, Thabeet, Monroe, Harden, Teague. In Scotty Sterling, Geoff Petrie and Co. I trust, but with fingers (toes, arms, legs, eyes) crossed.

round sphere is redundant.

but so is my post, it has been said a thousand times before and will be repeated for this draft and the next, and next
