Poll- If Sacbee had to cut sportswriters, whom would it be?
Perhaps this is a heartless poll, but let's be realistic about the viability of the newspaper industry right now -it stinks.
Sacbee lists 4 folks covering the Kings/NBA, 5 if you include Marty McNeal's occasional piece. That's probably too many by 2. Who can we most do without? Bottom 2 are out.
My username indicates my vote #1. Sadly, my other vote would be for McNeal. The guy put in his time on the beat, but he's not adding any value now.
I'm up for replacing howard-cooper and bringing back RE Graswich as well.

Hey,
I don’t advocate getting rid of Voisin, McNeal and SHC due to the harsh economic times. I advocate getting rid of them because they suck.

It's reality
Newpapers across the country are laying off writers. Does it suck? Sure. But if we’re discussing reality I think it is fair to discuss who would be the Least Valuable Person, if you will.
Never forget: I am a complete idiot

Contentious issue
considering this is a blog. Not really sure I would feel good about anyone getting fired, I would recommend moving her to a different area of coverage, like Girls High School Sports. That way, her sensationalism would be very out of place.
AK47, SN13, B52, and K9. One guns, Another runs, He fits, while it licks.
Who's to say that she can't get a paid gig elsewhere?
Well, who besides “The Economy”?
m*****f***ing c***s***ing peanut butter and jelly!! f*** f*** f***!!!
I disagree w/ TZ
The world needs more consciencious readers, not more paid writers. Bad writers (I don’t read the Bee, I’m not accusing anyone) don’t attract or develop good readers.
Don't care for Vendetta Voisin!
She almost single handily got Rick Adelman run out of town with her never ending barrage of negative and often personal attacks on Rick. Rick is a good coach, and we haven’t had a good coach since he left. And in my opinion, we will be looking for another coach in the off season. Ailene is nothing more than an Attack Hack. I just don’t read her tirades anymore. Voisin is the worst sports reporter in the list above. Would be glad to see her moved off the Sports page. Perhaps her attacking style would be better suited to the Politics section of the paper. No one wants ANYONE to lose their jobs. We all know someone who is unemployed or is seeking work. But I’d like to see Kings beat reporters that are more positive and objective about my favorite team. No more blitzkrieg journalism.
I have cut the Mouth and Nose out of my Paper Bag, but I am contemplating not cutting out any EYE HOLES so I don't have to watch this mess at all...
Couldn't vote on this one
I wouldn’t wish job loss on anyone. Now, if the question were “Who would you voluntarily stop reading?”, Marty Mac and Ailene would be neck and neck.

+1
Voison is tough to read but has some interesting tid bits on occasion. Marty Mac is horrible, his fact finding skills are pathetic and his radio interviews wreak of cheap liquor but I still think he is better than Ailene. Much like my ticket purchasing from Section, I actually spent the $35 for ten weeks of The Bee a few days ago in an attempt to do my part to shoulder the economic load as a Kings fan. There is a legitimate chance that all of these people will be looking for work soon and I believe that it is partially our responsibility to help out by purchasing the Bee and for that matter Kings tickets whenever possible.
Hot dogs, get your hot dogs.
Well said 214
But usually, I’ve found, that Marty Mac just doesn’t write anything that makes much sense. Voisin’s credibility drops badly when she does her “I told you so’s”.

Newspapers are Dying
Sure, they’ll survive on the web, but contraction is inevitable. I am not too nice to wish joblessness on anyone: Marty McNeal is a joke. I hope he enjoys his wait for soup.
Just because you CAN vote doesn't mean you SHOULD vote. Support Natural Selection!
Reality
McClatchy will probably go bankrupt soon, at which point the Sacramento Bee will cease existence and all of the writers listed will be looking for work.
McClatchy will be cutting employees in March: that’s a given.

Bee newsroom cuts coming
Talks were held Friday between management and the employees guild to discuss the possibility of the Bee losing 25-38 newsroom positions.
