Game #60: Clippers at Kings

Los Angeles Clippers at Sacramento Kings, Feb 27, 2009 7:00 PM PST

King-killer Eric Gordon and Marcus Camby are out. Clipper-killer Beno Udrih is out.

Bobby Jackson will start, and Drew Gooden will play. Chris Kaman ate at P.F. Chang's last night.

Few things can salvage a season like this. Sweeping the Clippers while finishing ahead in the Ping Pong Derby ... that will do it.

7PM. Go Kings.

Hmmm

Salmons and Miller put up numbers but their team loses. Where have I heard that before?

Go Kings!

Looking for a good game from JT, Spencer and Kevin.

Personally

I don’t really care how Nocioni plays. If he plays well, great but that means less PT for JT and Greene. If he plays poorly then more PT for JT and maybe Greene, but that contract becomes much more of a concern.

Playing time for Greene would be good though.

If he plays well

the easier it will be to justify the trade for him and his contract and makes it easier to trade him.

by Aykis16 on Feb 27, 2009 6:56 PM PST up reply actions

He's not getting traded this season

and he is taking some of JT’s minutes now and there is a chance he will take more. That’s my worry.

Eduardo quit picking on Natt you hater!!!

(j/k)

actually eduardo, I don’t think you’re a hater. I’m just tired of reading all the Natt-venom. I agree the guy has done nothing to indicate we’d want him as coach next year, but all the vitriol about his rotations and such when half the team is new as of a week ago seems a bit much.

That's true

I do understand the situation Natt’s in and know this team has limited talent. At the same time, he’s been failing (IMO) in some basic coaching stuff, like matchups and rotations. It’s pretty exasperating when you see something that a coach, who is suppose to know more than you, doesn’t. The Kings have been losing by a lot so it’s not really that Natt has cost the team games, it’s more of putting the team in a position to stay IN the game.

Rock & an Hard place

Playing BJax at SG against a 6’6"-6’7" guy and having Cisco plays SF against a bigger 6’9" guy while Donte’ warms up the bench, isn’t the answer.

Do you play a guy that’s going to create a good mismatch for your opponent, because he’s a vet that plays hard. Or, do you play a rookie who has the size & athleticism but may not be skilled enough. Natt’s answer has always been go small ball or smaller ball.

The problem is we still lose , and we’re no further along in developing Donte than we were when we sent him to Reno. The other problem is with 22 games left in a miserable season, Natt is still trying to do what’s best for Natt and not what’s best for the team.

The team needs Hawes, JT, & yes Donte to be ready to play extended minutes next year more than they need 3 or 4 more hollow wins. The team need to know which of our expiring is worth making an offer to for next season. The team doen’t need Martin & Cisco to play 40mpg. I don’t expect Natt to throw a garbage time lineup out there to start the game, but reduced minutes for our core vets and extended minutes for our rookies will go a long way for making next season a productive one. And, it won’t hurt our ping pong ball total. Besides, if Natt thinks a few more wins will improve his chances of getting rehired, he’s stupider than I think. He’s best way of looking like a good hire, is to do what’s best for the team.

Looks like

we are going to get at least another game to test that theory.

Yah

after he fireed up the off balance 3 with 22 on the shot clock, lol.

But I’m giving the guy credit, mostly, he’s been a very good teammate so far. I’m actually becoming cautiously optomistic.

worries me that we will end up giving him an MLE level deal

always a concern :) I read somewhere he’s restricted though, so we may not have to offer, we’ll just have to decide to match or not whatever he gets offered.

How do they have more wins than us?

Dunleavy has a big contract

and no way will their owner eat it.

by ForThree on Feb 27, 2009 8:46 PM PST up reply actions

yep

seems silly to spend $60mil on a team that sucks because the coach has no clue, rather than eating $5mil and bringing in a coach that will let Baron Davis do his thing.

as I have said before

nothing would hurt more than getting out lottery picked by the sorry-ass Clippers

Clips are one of the most profitable franchises though aren't they?

I guess if he’s in it for profit and doesn’t care about winning…

It would be tough to be a Clips fan though, that’s for sure.

I’d like to see Dé3 getting Nocioni’s minutes right now.

see much Dé3 for the rest of the season.

McCants

Does anybody else see a slight resemblance between McCants and Bonzi Wells. They play similar in some ways. McCants shoots more from outside but both are tough and seem to like to play under the basket and in the post a bit

Good win

Too many turnovers, Solomon sucks and not enough Dé3. Other than that a pretty excellent performance.

Stat of the Night for me

Jason Thompson: 3 fouls in 31 minutes
Spencer Hawes: 1 foul in 33 minutes

Also, Will Solomon is horrible. The Kings got noticeably worse every time he is on the floor. I predict a great game from Deron Williams tomorrow. Bobby will be tired and Will Solomon can’t play basketball. I might actually start missing Beno.

Good game from Nocioni and McCants too. Loved Kevin’s all-around game too.

Always nice to enjoy a Kings win. Even in the worst season ever, the Kings can still enjoy blowouts versus the Clippers. Something that will hopefully remain a constant forever.

by Aykis16 on Feb 27, 2009 9:24 PM PST reply actions

Statistically

This seemed to be the best lineup on the floor tonight:
PG-Bobby J.
SG-McCants
SF-Martin
PF-Nocioni
C-Thompson

The Kings went on a big run with this group on the floor. Interestingly it was without Garcia or Spencer. Was probably more due to who the Clippers had on the floor.

Sorry about the typos fellas.

My hands must be shaking due to the fact the the Kings actually won tonight

by nothingbutnet on Feb 27, 2009 9:53 PM PST up reply actions

Solomon = Chucker?

Martin took 17 shots in 35 minutes (one shot every 2.06 minutes of play)
McCants took 11 shots in 24 minutes (one shot every 2.18 minutes of play)

Those were the two most frequent shooters tonight for the Kings. No real surprise there. No complaints. Who was #3?

Will Solomon!?!?! 5 shots in 11 minutes of action or one shot every 2.2 minutes of play.

And we were worried about McCants being the chucker!

Agreed - the guys with expiring have to take every opportunity that is presented to them

unfortunately, Solomon looked just horrible in a weak game against the Clippers. Ike was on the floor and looked equally poor during his minutes. Shame really, they are among the best 400 players on the planet and look like they just don’t belong.
