I am daydeaming again on a rainy day in Sacramento, and here is what I have come up with:
First, Ricky Rubio has to declare for this year's draft (I am seeing more and more stories about this being a distinct possibility).
Second, we need to get the top pick in the draft and OKC needs to get the next pick. (This is not going to be easy, but as of today, we are the two worst teams, so it's not out of the realm of possibility).
OKC is willing to give up their unprotected first round pick from Phoenix to move up 1 spot in the draft. We swap picks and OKC gets the consensus #1 pick and local kid, Blake Griffin. We slide down a spot and get an unprotected #1 in 2010 from a team that is looking to completely rebuild.
We then trade the PHO #1 pick in 2010 and the HOU #1 pick in 2009 and Kenny Thomas and Andres Nocioni for Amare Stoudemire.
Viola! It's like the summer of 1998 all over again. We get Rubio and Stoudemire in one fell swoop and we immediately are fun to watch again. PHO gets two #1s and expirings. They naturally wanted more, but for a player that is injured (again) and set to be a free agent, it's not a bad haul. For us, we get to keep JT and add an absolute stud in Amare.
New lineup:
1-Rubio, Beno
2-Martin, McCants
3-Garcia, Greene
4-Stoudemire, JT
5-Hawes, JT
