Craig Robinson for coach?
Played under Pete Carril, was a successful businessman in between playing and coaching, had the passion for b-ball to take on a job w/ a winless team for one tenth his former salary, and made them an almost .500 team w/ virtually the same personel.
Plus, well, he's kinda well connected. Might raise attendance at Arco just on the off chance that the POTUS shows up. I know, I know, the last thing we need is another untested in the NBA college coach, but can he be any worse than the last three?

I got nothing against Robinson. The guy has made a difference in a short term at a program suffering in recent times. That being said, coaching at college and coaching in the NBA are 2 different things. See: Theus, Reggie.

I am the stone that builder refused..I am the visual...The inspiration..That made lady sing the blues....I'm the spark that makes your idea bright.....The same spark that lights the dark....So that you can know your left from your right...I am the ballot in your box....The bullet in your gun...The inner glow that lets you know...To call your brother son....The story that just begun...The promise of what's to come...And I'm 'a remain a soldier till the war is won....
and Pitino, Rick and Calipari, John and Carlessimo, P.J. and Montgomery, Mike and ....
but at least with Craig Robinson he could say – “Yes We Can!” and it would carry more weight

Thank's Pookey
Always appreciate your direct and forthright answers.
After E-Muss/Theus/Natt,
I’d like to try an NBA coach. Jordan, Saunders, someone like that.

Disagree about Theus somewhat
But the rest of your point I do agree with.

I think the next coaching hire needs to be a proven commodity
We can’t afford another swing and a miss. We need the next two years to be a stable learning environment with a proven system on both ends of the court, so our youth can grow into the system and the team will be ready to compete.
If the next two seasons are like the last two, we’ll be starting over again, Kevin will be 28 and will be declining before we get anything going.

Ed Barrow
, the fat cat, jerkoff, know it all, guru behind the Yankees (traded for Babe Ruth, designed Yankee Stadium, cheated the SF Seals on DiMaggio—list goes on and on and on—you get the idea) said something about the 1939 Yankees that applies here:
This club is better than the much talked about 1927 outfit. This club has great balance, brilliant youth, speed, pitching, everything.
Think about this for a moment. Obviously the analogy loses some in the translation. The effect of, say, one park to the next has great fluctuation on a pitchers ERA for instance. That being said, this is basketball right?
Barrow’s point wasn’t just that the Yankees team (I’ve never seen a better argument for a better team) in 1939 was a great team; it was also better in part because no one really realized it. It’s not like these guys were unknowns; they had won the 3 previous World Series for chrissakes, and if Joe DiMaggio wasn’t the most famous player then, you’d have to name a more famous game. (Keep in mind Ted Williams rookie season was 1939. DiMaggio’s was ’36.)
The reason I write all this hubbub up (and I’ve mentioned it a few times before too) is that what makes a great team is having the ability to take all comers. This team would be wasted if they didn’t make the playoffs next season in my opinion. Or at the very least contend for a low playoff spot all season long. One of the reasons I say that is this: You have older veterans who are playing a part in this team right now (Nocioni, Martin, Garcia), and you have younger players who stand a great chance to make an impact (Greene, Hawes & Thompson), along with 3 more in the upcoming season after the 3 draft picks are factored in.
That team next year (with whomever the Kings get with their top pick), and the other 2 picks (or whatever they bring in as a result of having them) will not be a championship team. What they will be is a team that is younger overall, but has enough veterans at enough spots to consistently compete with teams. So in a sense, the need to create a balance is a coach who can work these parts together, and figure out which players need to do what. However, I’m not sure this team is starting over, but merely towards the end of the rebuilding process, and moving towards a spot towards building a special team again.
This is a long winded way of saying, among other things, that Eddie Jordan isn’t that guy in all likelihood. He has a poor history with young players, and worse, there is going to be competition for him. If you were Jordan, would you consider the Sixers, or the Kings on a 2nd go round? Whatever coach that comes along, needs to be willing to look at the short term and long term of the franchise. Few coaches, unless they get real long term security, will be willing to do that. Eddie Jordan will be no exception.
I think (and I can’t believe I’m even saying this), that the Kings need to find their own version of Nate McMillan.

At first glance I didn't understand what that meant
Now, I do understand what you’re saying. I’m not sure that is what I’m aiming at exactly. I like Bobby, and the thought of him making youtube video’s while disciplining Donte Greene makes my heart warm. But, Bobby has never coached players on any level before, and honestly, do you want to roll the dice with him as your first year new coach? Particularly when he played with more than half the roster the season prior?
I like out of the box where it applies, and this applies. But, this seems like a day late and a dollar short. I don’t think Bobby would do bad to take a coaching job at the pro level as an assistant, maybe even on the staff next season for the Kings. But what coach am I thinking of? I don’t know really. I’m not fond of Eddie Jordan (even though I see why many do) because I think Philly is a better fit overall.
My point about Nate Mac is that they need to find a coach they want long term and will back for that period. Whoever it is, they will have to agree with the vision that Petrie/Levien(?) has in place for this team long term The dynamic of how personnel men and coaches work together is integral to the function of a NBA team playing well consistently. Talent has a lot to do with reaching championships, and everything else, but a consistent dynamic between various functions of management is a close 2nd. Otis has said it consistently: When has Petrie built a winner that didn’t play for Adelman? It’s worth noting.

Sort of was trying to be sarcastic/humorous with the Bobby J although I’d love to see him as an Assistant.
Ah okay

Good stuff
I don’t a playoff spot is doable next year though. Winning in the 30s is though, and that’s what I’ll be looking for next season.

With the addition of a 19-20 year old high first round pick and other picks
the talent level should raise a bit, but only a bit. An improvement to +8-10 wins for next year is enough for Mr. Optimist to become Mr. Realistic.
Of course, more wins means less ping pong balls and as horrible as it is to hear – two years of high lottery picks are needed for this financially struggling, non-FA participating, possibly theatening to leave the area Kings team.

You lost me at Barrow
and I think you are a little optimistic about a playoff bid next season. I think high 20s to mid 30s in wins would be a great season next year. That kind of improvement over this year would position them well for the next season with two straight seasons of high draft picks and some young players getting to the payoff stage.

I've been thinking about this the past couple days
and I know I’m a crazy optimistic but this team, maybe, is not as a bad as the record shows. We’ve been in many close games (blowouts too, I know) and we have lost many because of corectable mistakes (bad coaching dcisions, bad players decisions) that could be fixed with experience and a better coach next year. I truly believe we could be much improved next year with our draft picks and a new coach. Not saying we are going to make the payoffs but between 30-40 wins could be a nice goal to acccomplish.

This team looks worse than it is
We can all agree on that. The question, if anything, is to what degree that statement is true.

If Craig Robinson got into the NBA in any capacity
In the next 8 years, w/ his bro-in law being a big NBA fan, one advantage might be that the ref’s would be afraid to eff around so much.
