Why was Reggie Theus really fired?
This team has its future stars that are improving day by day but what happened to the coaching? Natt is even in the same hemisphere with Theus on discipline or play calling!! I have no idea why the Maloofs have made their current moves but this team is now stripped to the bone. If I was running the NBA I would question some of the owners intervention with teams. This team went from a contender to the worst really fast. This can't be good for whats happening in our economy right now and the NBA must realize this. You can't throw any pro team on the floor and expect real NBA fans to shell out big money to watch. I really cared for this team but I hardly know its current roster and other than the key players its been a revolving door all season. What happened in Sacramento where the Kings were the only game in town?, always sold out and the place to be was Arco arena. I really think its sad because the Sacramento people were really proud of this team and it put us on the map! Now what?

Hey calidan...
Welcome to StR.
Before I started following StR about 3 years ago, I had little knowledge of the Salary Cap, and how it affects the team as a whole. I also had little knowledge of blogging etiquette.
Sad to say, but articulating my thoughts about the Kings made me want to learn more about writing than any of those high school writing classes ever did. Stick around, and you’ll learn tons.
First and foremost, your concerns are valid on the surface. Dig deeper into the salary cap mess that the kings are in, the economic crunch the Maloofs are in, and a general need to rebuild do to an aging roster with diminished talent, and you’ll see to see a trend. That this whole championship team-building process is much harder than it is on NBA Live.
Factor in locker room cancers, a few mistakes (obviously Petrie and the Maloofs aren’t perfect), and suddenly you have a very bad team. The pendulum really can swing that quickly. Which is a testament to the importance of having a great “program”, not unlike San Antonio, or at the college level, Duke (also why I really like reading about a better organized, and more prominent role for the D-League).
Helpful hint: breaking up your writing into multiple paragraphs is golden. It’s hardly possible to use too many paragraphs (within reason).
Btw, hope you enjoy StR.

Oh yeah
Helpful hint #2: Re-read your comment before posting. And If you’re me, re-read your comment 5 times, as apparently 4 times wasn’t enough for me to catch “and you’ll see to see a trend.” instead of “start to see”

After awhile, CAB, typos are a way of life.

Even though I write like the OP.
And to answer your question apparently Theus was fored because he placed so much authority in Chuck Person and that did not sit well with management. Also Theus banned cell phones during travel, but he answered his phone during practice. That combined with a bad first half got Theus and Person canned.
He was fired
Because the Maloofs didn’t like his coaching style. I remember Gavin saying how Adelman had a system he taught practice after practice and Reggie didn’t do that. He coached game to game based off personnel match ups.
He was essentially a lame duck coach. His agent was already shopping him for a job before the season began because Reggie didn’t believe he was coming back.
I think the bigger question is how the Maloofs do their coaching search in the first place. Two coaches in row, where all reports indicated that the Maloofs made the hire, but quickly changed their opinion on the coach shortly thereafter.
Theus to land in Memphis
I hope he lands in Memphis. I think he will do a good job. I wouldn’t wish coaching overpaid, play hard half the time NBA players on anyone. I guess he has to answer the professionalism questions, but I’m guessing he can recruit.

Reggie will do anyhere where it is primarily about Reggie
And I don’t mean that in a bad way. But that is the biggest difference in the dynamic of college coaching vs. professional coaching. In the pros, it’s always more about Kobe than Phil, more about Duncan than Pop. In college, it’s about Williams, Coah K, etc. That’s Reggie’s wheelhouse.

I hope Reggie goes back to college. In fact, haven’t we always maintained that very point 214?
