Around SBN: Auto Racer Jeffrey Earnhardt Excited to Make MMA Debut

Plugged-in sources say that making a run at bringing Turkoglu back to Sactown -- given Orlando's well-chronicled concerns about re-signing last season's NBA Most Improved Player award recipient and staying under the luxury tax -- holds great appeal to the Kings. Yet that depends on Sacramento's willingness to spend this summer.

Rec'd

I like Hedo as a person and a player. But there’s absolutely no room for him on this team because of his age, first and foremost, along with the other reasons you mentioned. Signing him would be an idiot move, even if Nocioni was moved somewhere else.

Rec'd

I like Hedo and would take him in a money neutral deal since I think he is better than either of those players, that being said I think that after PG our biggest room for improvement amon the starters would be at SF.

by mayfieldcol on Apr 11, 2009 10:45 AM PDT up reply actions

Great...

Now Petrie wants to stockpile SFs? Wasn’t he stockpiling a bunch of PFs a while back? Adding another SF would make the squad 4 SFs deep.

I'm fourthing the WTF

Big man and point guard are the 2 priorities. No money should be spent on role players until both of those are filled, no matter how many fond memories they bring back. The next memory we should bring back is that red haired dancer that ran off with Chilcut

Concur

Hedo would be an asset on most teams, we just don’t have the need for him right now, or in the foreseeable future. I hope he signs a fat contract and does well, just not in Sacramento.

I guess the answer is you never know what GP has up his sleeve?

Given Noce’s rumblings and contract it makes sense for the Kings to trade him (although I shudder to think what they might get in return).

And if we were able to turn Noce into an expiring contract and extras, I wouldn’t mind having Hedo as our token veteran for a few seasons. I think Garcia’s best role is as our first small off the bench at whatever position creates the best matchup. And I think that Hedo might actually provide a great model for Donte’s game.

That said, it makes zero sense unless Noce is traded.

I don't believe this happens

for all the reasons TZ mentions and because I believe like sdfd and batso that the nostalgia ship has finally sailed

we’re moving on.

I wouldn't worry

I bet the Kings won’t have 7 million in cap space anyway.

Hedo > Noccioni

I would trade Noc for Hedo in a heart beat. Noc forces his offensive game, he hustles but not all the time, he trash talks the Kings in foreign newspapers, he’s supposed to be good defensively but his guy keeps torching us, I’m not sold on him at all. Garcia is a nice player but better suited off the bench behind both Martin and Hedo/Noc. I don’t even want to give my opinion on Greene, I think he is years away from being a mature, professional basketball player. The Kings lack the basketball IQ/high skill play of a guy like Hedo. Whether we are being nostalgic or not, Hedo is an All-Star caliber player on a very good team.

Hedo is efficient offensively as a scorer and passer while he has developed into on of the games best point forwards. The Kings need smarter players, not guys who keep trying to run through the same brick wall for 48 minutes. Hedo brings a lot to the offensive end and is a chemistry guy who adds to the community and the locker room. When you give me the option of an All-Star caliber player who was drafted by this franchise and gone on to make huge strides as a player or Noccioni/Garcia/Greene, I would choose Hedo.

Hot dogs, get your hot dogs.

Yea, but will the Magic give you Hedo for Noc?

No, they’d rather pay Hedo $7M than Noc. And, I’m guessing, but I’d think Hedo would take less to stay in Orlando, than to come to Sac. So, it ain’t happening.

Sure

That would be a good trade for us.

Orlando isn’t going to re-sign Hedo and then trade him to us for Noce, they’re trying to lose salary. I can’t see any circumstance where Orlando would even consider this.

I like Hedo

but if Orlando is worried about staying under the luxury tax, maybe they will let Gortat go. Now he’s someone who fills a need for this team.

by busybe on Apr 11, 2009 1:34 PM PDT reply actions

Makes no sense to me either

I did read (ESPN?) an interview with Hedo saying the contract issue had been on his mind all season and that his major concern is providing long term financial security for his family. I could see (not advocating) Hedo taking less in order to secure a longer contract. If you take the state of the economy and his age into consideration I could see him taking the MLE for 4 years with the 5th year being a team option with a buyout.

If Hedo hasn't been able to provide that so far

I shudder to think what happened to the 45 million in salary he’s made as a player went.

Is he on the decline?

He’s not having a good year: .411 shooting and .357 from 3, PER 14.6. He’s a career 15.0 PER guy. That’s average. His best PER was last season with a 17.8, he had a 16.0 and a 16.7 his 1st 2 years in Orlando and he’s been under 15 every other year of his career.

I like the guy, but no way in hell I would sign him to a 7+ million 3+ year deal. No way in hell.

Numbers are over inflated

Having a guys like Howard and Lewis on your team makes things easier. If he were on another team his numbers wouldn’t be so good. If he came to the KINGS he’s numbers wouldn’t be like they are in Orlando
