Four on the floor - Thabeet or not Thabeet
Of the top 4 possible picks that we want to get on the Arco floor, 3 of them I could get excited about. Griffin is everybodys choice, and I could get behind the 3 big rotation of young big men and truly be excited. The next two are points, Rubio and Jennings , who draw Maravich and Parker comparisons. We are something like 3-14 in games decided by 3 points or less, with a Maravich or Parker we would be at least 9-8, 6 wins and probably more. That leaves the worst case scenario, the Kings falling to 4. Thabeet...I'm not excited. I should be. I'm not against defense. Some of my best friends play defense (ok just the ones that can't shoot).
Can you guys either ramp me up about Thabeet, or give me another name to get excited about , that is not a 2 or a 3...I can live with our smalls until we get closer to the playoffs...they are fairly easy to find.
Help.

Freshman at Georgetown… 6’11" and also a stud… just will take him a little more time than Griffin. Assuming he comes out, he’s seems like less “bust” risk than Thabeet to me. As I typed this, it occurs to me that we shouldn’t be thinking of a non first or second choice! positive thoughts only… we don’t need to think about the 4th best player…aagghh!

Tyreke Evans
He’s raw, but what a point guard he could be.

If we go big with our first pick..
What are the odds of a quality (Teague, Evans, etc) being around with the Rockets pick?
by misterbrister on Apr 13, 2009 5:19 PM PDT up reply actions
I think pretty good
It looks to me like the talent at the end of the first round isn’t so different from the beginning (after maybe the fifth spot).
Teague and Evans will not be there, but there are some other difference makers that will probably be picked in the twenties. Blair, Calathes, maybe even Flynn could be there.
Speaking of Tyreke, did anybody else notice...
…that Tyreke Evans is always listed on Kings telecasts as an option in the top picks? Jerry seems to go out of his way to list him as a player that could be a possible top 4 pick. Also, I believe Aileen listed him in her top four players (Griffin, Rubio, Evans and Flynn). Most mocks have listed much lower. Makes you wonder if Petrie (or someone else on the inside) is a little less tight-lipped about their fourth favorite player now that we’re assured a top four pick .
If Evans wasn't on their top 3 of choices
I’d really be shocked.

Personally
I would be more than happy with Evans if the Kings draft him
Kings rule! (They are royalty - right?)
My sentiments exactly
Where you & I will disagree (and I know you won’t like this) is that I’d think right now I’d rather have Evans than Griffin.

D'oh
Evans over Griffin I mean.
Basically because the Kings already have JT and Spence. If Mikki was still the starter, I would want Griffin without question.
Kings rule! (They are royalty - right?)
I don't look at it that way at all
I look at it the Kings are getting a likely top 3 and need to come away with a franchise player or a player very near that. In my view Griffin isn’t going to qualify. (In my view. In the words of some guy, breathe, baby, breathe.)

Pookey
I guess that is what I was saying in a different way. So you are saying that if the Kings did not have JT and only had Spencer and Mikki as the starting front court, you would still not take Griffin with the number 1? I don’t think Griffin will be a franchise player either (not a big improvement over JT) but if the Kings didn’t have JT would you still pick Evans with the #1 pick if Rubio wasn’t coming out? Assuming you would even take Rubio with the #1 pick.
Kings rule! (They are royalty - right?)

there’s a bunch of good prospects out there but it’s still too early to get worked up about the draft. There may not be much else to talk about but regardless, it’s too early. This is not a draft full of obvious superstars but it’s actually full of prospects who look like they may be decent pros, especially with 1’s. Tyreke Evens, yeah.
Thabeeeeeeeeeet!!!, only if he’s the best player available when we draft and he could be.

This is my fear
I can see a lot of this in Thabeet’s NBA future … and I’m not talking about Chris Weber.
He's already a better player than Dalembert
(once he gets some NBA games under his belt)
definately has more upside

I didn’t compare him to D Howard or anything – we are talking about Dalembert here.

I didn't compare him to Howard in that thread
just mentioned that Howard doesn’t actually ever shoot the ball.

So
you didn’t compare him to Howard, you just compared the types of shots they both take? Um, ok.

Ummmm - yes, that is correct.
One aspect does not make a players whole game.

So if I said
Kevin Martin’s 3 point shooting is better than LeBron’s.
That wouldn’t be comparing him to LeBron because one aspect does not make a player’s whole game?
Got it.

My fear
is that we are not at #1 and Rubio doesn’t come over the water. Jennings hasn’t done anything that I have ever seen to merit being in this group. But who really grabs you after Griffin if there is no Rubio at the end of the tunnel?
Thabeet isn’t a walking tree like Muresan. He will attempt, and succeed often, to block shots. I just cannot imagine him being able to handle an NBA-size post player one on one.
Let’s go with the “positive thoughts” approach.
Time will tell
Everybody knows I think after a season or two he’s the one of the next All-Star Centers in this league. I don’t deny his potential bust level is high – but so is his potential as the next great defensive Center – DENYING the rim (something we don’t do at all) for years to come.
Its not sexy – its just winning basketball.
That being said, he’s always been my back-up plan.

thabeet
i like what he did in college. but i am quite uncertain as to how effective he’ll be in the NBA, defensively. and i dont see him contributing much offensively.
stephen curry interests me a bit as a PG…so does maynor down by our second pick.
As if that matters
Where were JT & DeAndre Jordan projected to go in mock drafts last year?
Exactly.

Yet another problem I have with your comment
How do we go about getting that done lttg? Your enthusiasm is fine. It’s just you say things with little to no chance of happening sometimes. (This is a prime example IMO, and it’s not offensive to anybody with the exception of those of us who follow these types of transactions.)

Little chance of happening?
Like Rubio Dominating the NBA? Multiple All-Star appearances
Like that?
Trades happen all the time, we have two assets that I think many teams might give up a teens pick for (Cisco and Noce). There are other possibilities as well.
There are always possibilities – and now IS the time to speculate.

Been giving that some thought
How about offering the Bucks or Bobcats our 2010 #1 ( top 10 protected, and top 5 protected in 2011 ) for their 2009 #1. Both team have a salary cap problem. The Bucks need to find a way to sign Charley V & Sessions. The Bobcats need to sign Felton. Signing their stars and their #1 pick might put them in Luxury Tax territory.
Cash might help too.

Very true
a couple of teams up against or over the cap might sell thier pick/trade for another year.

I'll see if this sticks
Pick Griffin with the #1.
Trade Beno, the Houston pick and the 31st pick for Ty Lawson (whichever team picks him) and a scrub to fill out the transaction?
We can hope right?
Kings rule! (They are royalty - right?)
Beno only works if the receiving team has cap space.
Draft picks count for $0, but Beno’s contract means the trade doesn’t work without cap space.
The greatest likelihood is that we get a PG #1 ( if Rubio &/or Wall enter). There is probably only one chance to get Griffin, and that is with the #1 pick. But, depending who draws the #2 or #3 picks, Rubio could still be available even at #4. There are a lot of teams that might pass on Rubio if Thabeet & Wall are available. So, we could get Rubio at any of the first 4 picks, no matter where we end up.
Lawson is good, but there will be PG’s available even into our 2nd rounder. Plus the Kings will be able to pick up a quality player at the trade deadline using K9’s expiring contract, to fill any spots not improved by the draft. I don’t think Lawson is worth 2 draft picks and a backup PG.
