Yes, but did you guys look at the pictures in the left hand margin?

They made my day. The one of St. Jean and Dunleavy are absolutely hilarious. I nearly pissed myself when I read the caption to the Dunleavy pic (BTW—nice hands Mike). And the one of Saint brought back memories (not good memories, but memories nonetheless).

Thanks for pointing those out. I prefer the Sprewell “feed my family” one, but St. and Dunleavy are also hilarious. No Spree with Carlesimo?

JT hands down

Jason will be a big part of this team’s future. He will most likely be out starting PF next year and whatever coach we have will have to use him, period.

Randolph probably has more potential than JT. He’s just a freak, plain and simple. Buuuuut, and this is a big butt, he plays for Don Nelson, who is crazy and does whatever he likes. Nelson can destroy a young player’s confidence and it looks as if he’s started doing that with Randolph. The X Factor, of course, is that if a player can play through Nellie’s craziness and earn a spot on that rotation, he’s golden (see Ellis, Monta, and Biedrins, Andres)

Did you see the guy who was talking about how Hawes sucks?

I distinctly remember that several draft ‘experts’ were down on Sac’s pick since they already had Hawes (which should have been irrelevant since Hawes sucks)

he also said:

What he doesn’t do is rebound well enough to be a good center or shoot for a high enough percentage to be a good center

GSoM

i think most of their members are teenagers (which explains the stupidity) and really don’t understand why they hate the kings and sacramento (by the way; half of elk grove came from the bay area). but yeah, i voted for JT because their comments are entertaining; not necessarily on the smart side, but entertaining.

with that said, randolph is an athlete that has more potential but he needs to be more polished and survive nelson or he’ll end up like patrick o’bryant or brandan wright. i don’t think POB and Wright are that bad to be sitting on the bench; they probably are servicable but nellie kills young players. either he’s putting more mileage on his starters or he picks up d-leaguers; those two were top 12 picks of the draft (i think wright was 7th in 07 and POB was 12th in 06). they showed some potential to warrant to be picked in the 1st round. instead they ride the pine because nellie doesn’t trust youngsters.

i think the JT v. AR is an irrelevant question until year 4 in the league; the more relevant question is whether AR can survive nellie because biedrins (probably for 40mins/game), turiaf, and magette are going to get their minutes. jackson sees time at 4 when they go small and for some reason kurz gets time (thought not alot); so how is nellie going to use him and give him minutes. nellie has proved that he stymies the growth of youngsters and his preference for veterans is going to slow the growth of AR.

JT will get his time to grow and hopefully we will get a point to get him in the ball in the post (and hawes) and the refs stop calling the touch fouls on him.

god i hope we get b. griffin.

Wright didn't plat much because he had a dislocated shoulder. Not for any reason that had to do with playing time.

You guys haven’t seen the Dubs in the long time, or you don’t pay attention to the news. The only reason Kurz was playing was because there were only 7 non-injured warriors.

by ZaMzAm FiRe on Apr 21, 2009 5:02 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

And because early in the season, Kurz could be trusted to make a screen, get the ball and pass it to somebody else

In contrast to Randolph, who made the screen, got the ball, and jacked up a ridiculous 20 footer (well outside his range).

I voted for JT

even though I gave the slight edge to Randolph

lol, hey I can’t help it, I’m biased maaaannnnn

 ;P

Still, next season should be interesting for both these players. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if JT comes out on fire while it may take Randolph 2 seasons before he REALLY starts sparking. JT’s game is more refined and polished, but Randolph has the edge in potential. Especially if you consider age.

Either way, I think both of them are goign to be great.

I voted for Thompson. Randolph may have more potential, but that doesn’t mean that he’ll have the better sophomore campaign. Most people are voting for AR based on his potential, but that’s not what the poll was about.

When Golden State visited here last time,

I watched the dynamic between Randolph and Nellie. Randolph popped off to Nelson almost every time he came off the court. Maybe that’s youth. Maybe that’s playing for Nellie. And maybe that’s a guy with a 10 cent head. Time will tell.

I dunno

I really like Batum’s game. Good passer, good defensive wing player, he’s more athletic than many think, and to be honest I thought he looked like he’d be the next best thing to Doug Christie-lite. He does need to improve his shooting though.

Now that I think about it, it would be sad to see Speed Racer and Batum play next to each other, Martin’s 190 and Batum’s 200, and they’re both 6’7"-8".

Hello...
think GSoM are still suffering the effects of bandwagoners that think they know shit, and are totally willing prove they don’t in profanity laced tirades.

Yeah, we have a pretty big crowd which is about as diverse as it gets. Everything from the uninformed casual fan to the “experts”.

I did just want to pop in because, while I’m sure it’s fun to bash other blogs from afar, I found some of the characterizations to be a bit unfair. For instance, I’ve seen more profanity in this thread alone than I’ve seen on GSoM in two weeks. For the most part it stays pretty civil, and if you learn who to ignore (I’m sure it’s the same way here if your honest) there are lots of great posters with good insights.

I come here to read on occasion and don’t see much of a difference in the quality of comments compared to any of the other SBnation blogs that I visit. For the most part it’s pretty good stuff.

Anyway, I hope that you guys feel free to stop by anytime there’s some reason for dialog because for the most part it’s not nearly as bad as you make it out to be.

Good luck in the lottery. Here’s hoping for a 1-2 finish for northern CA. (okay, okay, you guys can have Griffin and we’ll settle for Rubio as a sort of a peace offering)

by olympicmike on Apr 18, 2009 11:51 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Rubio isn't really

“settling” here as many posters here would rather take Ricky Rubio over Blake Griffin. How about we take Blake, you take Ricky, then Sacramento trades Blake for Ricky and cash or a future second round pick?

by submison on Apr 19, 2009 6:26 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah...

That was supposed to be a joke. I’ve actually read quite a few people here saying they’d rather have Rubio. If the Warriors are lucky enough to land a top two pick I’d be so happy that I honestly won’t care which of those guys we are in a position to get. We aren’t a good enough team to get picky about who would “fit in” better. I’ll just take the most talented guy left on the board thank you.

I agree with you up to a point mike

The Warriors and Kings are in NEARLY identical situations. I say nearly identical because the Dubs have a lot of bad contracts on the team they should have never signed.

I just have this feeling somewhere deep down in my fat gut that Rubio will be a stud, and Griffin quite won’t be on the same level.

Well...
I just have this feeling somewhere deep down in my fat gut that Rubio will be a stud, and Griffin quite won’t be on the same level.

I certainly wouldn’t argue against that. I haven’t seen nearly enough of Rubio to make an educated judgment about him. I (like most NBA fans) am going off of a few Olympic games, some online scouting reports, statistics from a league that I’m not familiar with, some YouTube videos, and a couple magazine articles. Not exactly quality scouting material. I can certainly imagine Rubio being the better player. If the scouting reports about his high level defense are true, and he can improve his shooting over time(a reasonable thought given he already has some skill in the area) he could be a very special player.

He’s actually the player that I’d be most excited about the Warriors landing, but I can’t really say who will be the best player in the draft this year. The consensus at the moment seems to be Griffin at 1 but it’s getting harder and harder to judge especially when you have guys coming from overseas and guys only playing one year of college. It’s not uncommon for the “consensus #1” to fall a bit short.

The Warriors and Kings are in NEARLY identical situations. I say nearly identical because the Dubs have a lot of bad contracts on the team they should have never signed.

Yeah, the Warriors front office has gotten themselves into quite a pickle. I’ve spent more time writing about which of the many front office mistakes has been worse than I care to in one season. Before they can go anywhere they need to figure out who’s in charge over there. I’m hoping that once the Mullin situation is put to bed they can hire a real basketball guy to take his place, and give him the power he needs to improve the team instead of relying on Robert Rowell to put his nose in player personnel decisions.

Having said that, I’d rank the crappy moves as follows.

#1: Extending Jackson. He should be an expiring contract this offseason and instead he is a long-term salary anchor. We didn’t actually gain anything by extending him. We already had him and he certainly didn’t get any better knowing that he was signed until he turns 35.

#2: Trading for Jamal Crawford. Al Harrington would have also been an expiring contract this offseason and instead we replaced him with a fun to watch, but horribly inefficient guard who is signed through the 2010/11 season. If only he would opt out. (yeah right)

#3: Signing Corey Maggette. I’m not as down on this one as most Warrior fans just because this one at least made some sense when they did it. At the time we had just lost Baron and thought we could still be in the playoff hunt if we could replace some of his production in free agency. We whiffed on Arenas (thank God) and Brand, and the best guy left was Maggs. Yeah, we overpaid but it’s not a franchise killing move by itself. BUT after Monta went down, Jackson signed his extension, we traded for Crawford, and the season became a total loss, this move hurts us a lot more than it could have.

Thing 2

by olympicmike on Apr 20, 2009 2:51 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Your points about Rubio

But, all those things I’ve seen, I like more of what I’ve seen of Rubio. (And in truth. a few games I’ve seen on live TV of Griffin didn’t really impress me a great deal. And that was without the tournament, of which I didn’t see any of his games beyond the 2nd round.)

It’s funny about the Maggette point. I see your reasoning. Which only makes the idea of extending Jackson even that more indefensible. And, yeah, trading for Crawford really dind’t help the Dubs either.

I take comfort, if the Kings don’t do something stupid by bringing in a player through Free Agency for Mid Level (or higher) dollars, that they will spend wisely, and build around their young core of talent which willd definitely will grow deeper after this draft. If you have 3 of the top 31 picks (which the Kings do), then you should come away with 1 star, and at least 1 rotation player from this draft who contributes to your team for years to come. But, with all the players who are getting out of the draft early on (like Warren—that’s the big one), that could make it more difficult to find a sleeper.

I think something has crawled up JAE's... you know where

He’s definitely gotten a bit more testy of late. He’s been complaining about being unemployed for a few months, so that might be it. He didn’t used to start with the insults so quickly.

Regardless, the guy is, to put it lightly, a little obsessed with statistics. He’s got a crazy database of every NBA game for the last 5+ years or something, and the one thing that you can trust, without a doubt, is that he’s spot on in terms of rebounding: you can extrapolate “per minute” rebounding rates and you cannot reasonably expect those rates to rise over a career. Sure, there are exceptions to every rule, but exceptions are not common place.

On Hawes, I would definitely expect you guys to draft Griffen if given the opportunity and for Hawes to get immediately demoted to a back up role and involved in trade discussions with Noccioni and Udrih. He’s young enough to still have that “potential” sheen, but I certainly wouldn’t expect him to be in the Kings’ long term plans… kinda like the Warriors’ Brandan Wright.

You can argue this any way you like

I still won’t agree with you until the evidence is clear on Hawes & JT. And by then, it will be simply too late. And all that can be said is I was right or wrong. I’ve been plenty of both.

Jae can state anything any way he likes. I understand his points about per minute rebounding, and where he was going with it. That wasn’t the point I was making, nor was it the intention that I was getting at.

And, there isn’t a way you’re going to convince me that Ricky Rubio isn’t better than Blake Griffin long term, unless Geoff Petrie does it first.

Thanks for the explanation Dubs.

In regards to the profanity, you may be right, and I rarely use it, but the thing that is bad that irks me and stands out to me is the personal attacks people are willing to throw around over there when someone doesn’t agree with their point, or offers a difference of opinion. It’s nonsense and I won’t respect anyones opinion regardless of their “stats lair” they may have set up in their basement, if they aren’t going to respect my opinion, end of story.

but Apoet was the first one to start hurling personal attacks in that thread and if I’m not mistaken he is from this Blog. It’s not really the case that people use personal insults on GSoM. Twice in this AR vs JT discussion you’ve got people ignoring a logical line of reasoning and instead pointing at someones grammar and spelling like it has some relevance to the conversation as a rebuttal; that’s Bush league. You can add to that the number of backhanded comments made by Jae and others and who chime in riding his jock like he paid them, and in reality, it’s all very disrespectful. Honestly though I think a big part of the tone of the discussion was started by APoet. I also think that the discussion near the top of this thread is pretty disrespectful as well. The whole “my-blog-is-more-civil-and-intelligent-than-your-blog” attitude is really silly. As for this comment you made:

Yea as far as not calling each other out

I’m probably the most guilty of it. And, we do it consistently. Every “family” has squabbles, and we’re hardly different. There are things, and people, we’re more likely to agree with.

We’ve had a few trolls from the Warriors end, Blazer idiots and Laker Fans (before Silver Screen & Roll came around—but I have no issue with those folks either).

As far as that writing goes, whatever idiot that posted “suck a dick Kings fans” by spreading it out over bold letters was funny. I didn’t even catch it; I just thought it was stupid. (It was a “”http://www.sactownroyalty.com/2008/11/24/669251/attention-idiots-idiots-yo" >Monta is better than Kevin Martin post". That really made me laugh; even more so after seeing TZ respond.

But, whatever it’s worth. if I felt an exchange was useful for me with GSoM, I would still head over there in a heartbeat. I don’t go to other sites to talk shit about people who don’t like the Kings. I really don’t care. (And, sometimes their right.) I’m more interested in what their opinions of their own team are. Which made the exchange betwen Jai & I all that more amusing. Well for me anyway.

Oh, and GSoM is the best visual blog there is. Anybody who argues that is, umm, stupid. Now how important Captain Jack is? Eh, I won’t go there.
