Hedo leaning toward opting out
For those who think the 2010 "glue veteran" signing should come a summer earlier: sounds like he doesn't expect more money/year, but wants to get a long term deal before a potential lockout

Noce for Hedo...
We have got to figure out a way to ship Noce out if we’re going to entertain bringing on Brother Hedo at the 3-spot. Noce plays a scrappier brand of hoop, but there’s a good amount of redundancy in what he brings vs what Hedo would bring and that combination doesn’t justify a combined $15MM (I assume Hedo will basically take an extension of what he’s currently making). Not to mention, this would create a logjam at the 3 which would prevent Donte from maturing to whatever level he’s capable, time’s ticking. We got to send Noce packing if Hedo’s even an option.
As an aside, now that Carrill and the Princeton are back, I think Hedo would be a great mentor to young Donte. Both are big (6’10") athletic small forwards with a (potential) for a strong inside-out game. Hedo was basically tasked with the same role that it looks like Donte will be tasked with this season, perhaps with a bit more exposure than Hedo because CWebb, Vlade and Peja aren’t in the starting lineup. Hedo can definitely drop of wisdom on DG.

Is Hedo "better" than Noce?
I agree that there is lot of overlap in their skillsets. Aside from the mentoring of DG, what else would we gain by bringing in Hedo?

No brainer.
Hedo is way better than Noc. Hedo is an All-Star caliber three who passes and shoots better while giving a more consistent brand of hoops than Noc. With the struggles of Beno, Hedo is a guy you can turn to to run the offense, something Noccioni is totally incapable of doing.

The issue isn't that Noc is better than Hedo (which he isn't)
The issue is whether it’s wise to sign Hedo for considerable dollars. I believe it is not.

If you can deal Noc then Hedo is a nice upgrade.
I just don’t think the Kings can get rid of Noc. I see his toughness but he is a selfish offensive player who bitches in the foreign press when he doesn’t get his way. I watched him struggle to get his 10 points whether it took ten shots or fifteen shots, he just seemed interested in numbers. When the Kings got Sheldon Williams, Atlanta fans said he fell down too much….and he did, his footwork was beyond coachable. When the Kings landed Noccioni, Bulls fans said he will frustrate you, one great game, one horrible game….and this is what I saw. Unfortunately, Noccioni and/or Kenny Natt didn’t do a good job of recognizing the good games and the bad ones so we had to watch a lot of really poor individual play from Noc.
Again, if the Kings can deal him I am all for it, I don’t think he is good enough to start for a good NBA team.

If the Kings can deal Noc I can live with that
But not to sign Hedo I’m not.

Wouldn't a point three help either Griffin and Rubio?
I see a player like Hedo taking pressure off young guys who can grow into their respective roles without having to be a focal point. If Rubio is the starter at the point, Hedo allows him to come off picks and get his game going without having to handle the ball exclusively. As far as Griffin, I see back cuts and ally-oops passes made easy by a high skill player. Odom, Artest, Marion are all very good players but even at age 30 I see Hedo being a stronger player than all of them over the next 4 years.
The Kings need highly skilled winners and that is what Hedo is, not to mention a home town guy to bring some fans back in the building. I guess we just have to agree to disagree on this one Pookey.

Ok, I gotta jump on this one
I don’t really care much for Nocioni, though I think he’s a solid player who adds a different dimension to this team, but you have to get something straight: he’s not “bitching in the foreign press because he doesn’t get his way.” Noce is frustrated because he’s so damn competitive he doesn’t understand rebuilding. That part is his fault but he’s not “bitching.”
Spanish is my first language and when I read the interview I totally understood where he was coming from. The Kings are rebuilding and worrying more about money right now, which is understandable for us fans, but not for a player who wants to win at all cost. Say all you want about Nocioni the player on the court, but don’t judge his character because the guy hates losing.
By the way, I don’t recall him forcing it time and time again, or shooting it that much, that you would call him selfish.
My only problem
Is the guy is in town for a few weeks, gets hurt and misses games, then spouts off to the press like he knows everything that ails the franchise.
I thought it was pretty unprofessional, to be honest.

If he keeps doing it I would agree with you
But I don’t think it un-professionalism had much to do with it. Plus, was Noc wrong?

I don't see it.
Career 15.1 PER guy. He’s 30 years old and his PER dropped 3 points(17.8 to 14.8), shooting dropped from 45.6% to 41.3% and 3pt% dropped form 40.0% to 35.6% from last season to this one. Just an off year or is he slipping?
Either way I’m not sure why we’d want to sign a guy that is on the tail end of his career when we’re so far away from being anything even remotely relevant.
I like the guy, but he’s not going to put us in the playoffs next year, or be the guy that makes the difference between a 5th seed and a title contender in 3-4 years when our young talent is starting to jell, so I wouldn’t do it.
And what the hell is he doing talking about this now, when his team is supposed to be fighting for a championship and just got upset at home in game one. Focus on winning the next game and not on your next paycheck please.

Isn't 15 PER the league average?
If we could sign Hedo at the “average” salary, or something a little higher than the MLE for a couple years, and swap out Noce in the proces, I’d be interested.
Yes, it is and I think we have enough average players
why close the door on any possible above average FAs we might sign in ’10 by signing an aging average guy now.

Interesting...
anyone hear any news about Lamar Odom? Odom, Marion, Turkoglu, Artest – four “high-profile” SFs coming out this summer. Should be interesting to see who retains their services – while they won’t completely alter the power struggle, they could catapult or sink a mid-playoff team.
Coincidentally, Turkey-glue, Bill and Weed-dom were all born on the same year. Detroit’s got 25 mill of cap space, maybe they swing for all three? The Hawks are losing Bibby and have the ability to pick up (Boozer? Move Smith to SF?).
I’m going to hold off on this til lafter the playoffs, but I excitedly await the seasonb of speculation.
Donte? Donte'! Donté?!?!
'spect da 'xtra E'
I think Odom stays in LA.
I think Bibby stays in Atlanta. I think Boozer doesn’t opt out and stays in Utah for another season. I don’t think anyone really wants Marion or Artest. Hedo is probably going to cash in long-term with Orlando.

way to ruin the speculation broseph
Just crap-out on my fun why don’t you? Insensitive jerk.

Depends on how Orlando does in the playoffs
They could easily lose this series, which would be a huge disappointment, I’d imagine. Hedo could look to come “home,” and Orlando would want to mix things up (and Lewis isn’t going anywere). They could sign a more PF type in Marion to replace him, or do a sign and trade and take Noce (whose contract actually may be appealing in a S&T because it declines in value) as well as some other sweetner from us.
Now, whether the Kings want to make a play for Hedo is another story. Is Rubo/Martin/Turkoglu/Thompson/Hawes a playoff team in 10-11?
Well....
I think that if we can get Hedo for Noc it would be great…Hedo’s a very clever player, with good 3 point shooting and defense…This year we saved money with Noc, but his contract is going to add weight from next year…
