2008-09 Blogger Rookie of the Year

I was asked to host the final round of the 2008-09 Blogger MVP/Rookie Rankings organized by BrewHoop. Voters from across the blogosphere voted on this awards the days immediately following the end of the regular season. It has taken me the week since to gather the results, because ... well, you know.

On Tuesday, we'll unveil the MVP final standings. But now ... the Rookies of the Year.

Voters were asked to rank their top 5 rookies. A first-place vote earned five points, second place four points and so on.

Falling outside the Top 10 but receiving votes were: D.J. Augustin (2), Jason Thompson (2 -- not me I swear!) and Kyle Weaver (1).

#10 -- Marreese Speights (3)

#9 -- Marc Gasol (6)

#8 -- Rudy Fernandez (6, with one 3rd place vote as the tiebreaker)

#7 -- Michael Beasley (18)

#6 -- Eric Gordon (25)

#5 -- Kevin Love (51)

#4 -- Russell Westbrook (73)

#3 -- O.J. Mayo (95)

#2 -- Brook Lopez (106)

And finally ... I know the suspense is backbreaking ...

#1 -- Derrick Rose (182)

Rose wasn't quite a unanimous selection among bloggers: Lopez earned three first-place votes, and Love, Westbrook and Mayo each registered one as well.

Mayo won second in the official NBA balloting, and third here. Love also moved up a spot, which will surely ease the sting of his sixth-place finish in official balloting.

I'm personally surprised Courtney Lee, Anthony Randolph and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute didn't make a single ballot. I'd say, "Better luck next year," but ... well ...

Congratulations to Rose. Your invisible trophy is in the mail.

Derrick Rose

Totally deserves this. I’ve watched him against the Celtics (when did Garnett become such a total [expletive deleted]?) and the guy is a stud and has icewater in his veins.

Ok, people, let's generate all the good Karma we can until May 19. Then you can go back to your shallow and empty lifestyles.

KG has always been an [expletive deleted]

Recall that he was the one who started the whole goaltend after-the-whistle bit when he was with ’Sota.

Garnett

Seeing all those hard stares and barking makes me literally LOL. Does he really think that’s intimidating to an NBA player? I bet half the guys in the league 6’5" and over could break his skinny ass in two if they wanted.

And this is coming from a guy that really enjoys watching KG play…he just comes off as a bit of a d-bag when he’s busting that out while WEARING A SUIT ON THE SIDELINES.

So please KG, for the love of Diogu, just stop acting like a fool.

The guy has FOFTI Syndrome

Full On Full Time Intensity INTENSITY Syndrome (!!!).

I am an unabashed KG Fan. He is always worth the price of admission. He plays every minute and pushes, pulls, kicks and drags his teammates to play the same. Do you think for a second that the C’s win the Championship last year, win 60+ games last year without KG in their ears all damn year? I think he even made Doc Rivers a better Coach.

The guy is intense. He must be murderous at home, and will be scary when he is “retired”. I find it refreshing, from a distance thank goodness, that his FOFTI is not an act.

Quite disappointed

The fact that Courtney Lee didn’t get in is very disturbing. I guess his all-around game isn’t appreciated by fans around the league. I’ve seen him several times in person and he is mature beyond his years. He should have replaced Speights at 10.

I would also put JT over Speights but I’m biased.

Don't sweat the technique

No mention of Oden

I think the Speights/JT is a debate thats going to take a year or two.

So imitate the action of the tiger!.

The difference between the two essentially (as I really see it)

Is that Speights probably won’t have the same effect defensively JT can. JT won’t have the (potential) offensive impact, but will have enough to make his defense stick out that much more.

But it could use some ice.

Kevin Love looks like...

AJ Soprano. All things being equal, I don’t think this should help in any voting process.
