the series I'm interested in

I’m rooting for Bibby and the Hawks to take down the Heat as well as Chicago knocking out the Celts. Also predicting Cavs-Lakers championship with hopes that LeBron will stomp on the [….].

same here

i still love watching Bibby play
and how can Rondo not get suspended after slapping someone and then pushing someone into the score bench? he’s a dirty player, and i hate to see that shit.
and i would love to see a Lakers-Cavs finals and watch the King go to town on the Rapist

damn glad you said that
and how can Rondo not get suspended after slapping someone and then pushing someone into the score bench? he’s a dirty player, and i hate to see that shit

I so much want to vent on the NBA and wish that they were exposed for such heinous crimes. This situation with Rondo just goes to show once again how bias that guy Stern is. He can’t have Rondo suspended because Boston would lose and that wouldn’t make the millions very happy. I too hate Rondo because of his dirty plays and Boston’s D is only good because they get away with so much (hence, never bought into the Boston bandwagon). That’s two strikes now against the NBA just on Rondo. On top of that I heard an ESPN commentator give props to the refs for making the ‘correct call’ on that punch he threw because it didn’t land. Wow, I totally buy into that. Seriously, can the league get any worse than this? Oh yeah I remember now, last playoff season Horry and two or three Phoenix players got suspended because Horry shoved Nash to the tables. That suspension I believe costed Phoenix’s championship that year. I guess they came to regret suspending Horry because it was an irrational call by the refs.

by cyborg23 on May 2, 2009 10:58 AM PDT reply actions

+1

It’s a total sham. The intent was there. If someone threw a punch at someone’s face, would it make any difference if it hit their face or not? It doesn’t, since the intention is still the same. I bet if Rondo’s elbow hit Kirk, Stern still wouldn’t have suspended Rondo.

Vinny D

When I was in 8th grade, I spent a week at the Vinny Del Negro basketball camp (right before I moved from Sacto to Colorado). My take is that he’s a guy who knew how to play, but didn’t have a great grasp on how to relate the game to others. Really nice guy, and I’m not going to speak poorly of him, but I’m just not sure if he was ready to be a head coach. That’s what I think causes the breakdowns we see from Chicago.

I think people are way too hard on him

It’s his first year, his team is in the playoffs and playing well. It’s a young team, you think some of their problems could have something to do with that?

That's a tough criticism

because you can’t know if the team would be in the game if he hadn’t used the timeouts earlier. Doc ran out of timeouts in one of the games, and not a word was said.

Is it better to have timeouts at the end of the game and be down by 10 or have no timeouts and a chance to tie or win?

TNT is commenting on the similarities between Ray Allen and Reggie Miller. Moving without the ball, creating opportunities. Interesting because of this:

he’s pretty much a chucker who takes shots away from Derrick Rose, Luol Deng, and John Salmons.. I really dislike Gordon’s game if nobody’s noticed.

We disagree

Heartily. Gordon didn’t chuck to take shots away from other guys. He was doing it to help keep Chicago in the game. He was playing on a bad hamstring I might remind you.

Gordon is a chucker

has always been so, especially prior to the playoffs. He has eased up on it in the playoffs and since Salmons joined the team, but Gordon still shoots more unadvised shots than I’d like.

Yeah, tough call

You want Gordon-Deng-Salmons? Who comes off the bench? Or do you go with Deng-Salmons or Gordon-Salmons and trade Deng?

Lot different situation once Deng gets healthy

Is it?

Does he provide the kind of shooting Gordon can provide?

I don't know about the shooting

But the rotation becomes an issue if you’re trying to balance Salmons (notoriously not a great off-the-bench option), Deng (a guy being paid like a starter and major contributor) and Gordon (who would have a fresh contract paying him like a contributor)

Probably goin to let Gordon walk

But if I was Chicago, I’d look to move Salmons.

Probably the smartest move

His value will be high after game six, hes not being paid much, and Chicago could use a better inside option.

Gordon's a 2 guard

Salmons and Deng are small forwards, I think that’s where the move will come from. They’ll probably deal Deng.

I might remind

Other than Derrick Rose, who can the Bulls look to get their hoops? That’s maybe the difference between the Chris Paul Hornets in 2005-06 and this Bulls team.

Yep

If Boston-Chicago was the best 7 game series in a long time, Atlanta-Miami might have been the worst.

Why is it....

….That there are so many ex-Kings playing in the playoffs? If they were so bad, why are they now on playoff teams? Salmons is a huge contribute to to the Bulls (44.7 mpg/18.1ppg). Miller is his usual liability. What did we get from Chicago for Salmons/Miller? They got Gooden, whom they waived and was playing on the Spurs in the playoffs. He played 18 minutes per in the playoffs and scored 7.3 ppg. Cap space I guess… Turkoglu played well for the Magic (37.2mpg/11.8 ppg) but the Magic lost anyway. Other Ex-Kings players starting or contributing in the Playoffs. Artest (36.8 mpg/15.7ppg) , and Bibby (35.7 mpg/15.5 ppg). We got a not so good first round draft pick #23 for Artest and we got nothing for Bibby except more cap space. Will the Kings use all the cap space they have accrued or are they just cutting costs and becoming a bargain basement team? Will Petrie have the freedom to complete the transformation from a bad team with bloated veteran contracts to a younger more athletic team with a reasonable cap number? This summer will define Petrie’s career if the Magoofs allow him to make the moves he needs to in order to make this team competitive. If no good free agents are signed, then we will know what the mindset of the Magoofs is. If no FA acquisitions are made, there will be even more empty seats next year at Arco. No matter where the Kings select, and what players they get with the 2 first rounders they have, the addition of quality free agents is a must! The Kings need a quality PG either from the draft or in free agency. Beno is the #1 reason the Kings played so poorly this year. Beno was horrible last year and PG is the MOST IMPORTANT position on the floor. If you dont have a good floor general, the rest of the team could be virtual all-stars and not win many games. Raymond Felton, Juan Carlos Navarro, and Andre Miller are the only decent Point Guards available in free agency. Not exactly a strong class of available free agents, but any of those players is better than Beno. There are also a few quality point guards available in the draft. If the Kings get the 1st overall they will select Griffin for sure. But if they get 2-4, do they select Rubio ? Also, there are several quality PG’s available at 24 according to most mock drafts. Darren Collison, Jrue Holiday, and Eric Maynor all might still be available at 24, and in the second round Nick Calathes, Toney Douglas and Jeremy Pargo might still be on the board. No matter how the Kings do it, they need a Point Guard upgrade before play starts in the Fall. A Trade is always possible, and the Memphis Grizleys have 3 good Point Guards available to trade. There are a lot of other Point Guards in the league that can do better than Beno did this year. I am not sure Beno can even be a quality bench player. Every other position on the Kings has a decent starter and backup, but the PG position is a mess. It makes you wonder WHY the Kings traded Bibby with no good options available. What did they get for that move other than the high 1st round draft pick?

Another year, another chance to hope for the team !!

by FaStRmAn on May 3, 2009 4:05 PM PDT reply actions

Point guard play is critical in the modern NBA, yeah.

That’s why Rubio is higher on my board than Griffin.

by Deleran on May 3, 2009 4:17 PM PDT up reply actions

Actually

The elite point guards (Paul, Williams, Parker, etc.) have gone fishing. Maybe the position is not as important as some think.

by coolcatreportdotcom on May 3, 2009 6:01 PM PDT up reply actions

There is no avoiding that point

but there is also no avoiding that Paul, Williams, and Parker’s teams just weren’t as good; Paul’s team quit, there was no way Williams could beat the Lakers, and Parker only had Duncan at 80% against a Mavs team who was hot at the right time. You can’t really expect a player at any position to do the unthinkable that unless they had the right help.

The enter/return button

is your friend.

Also, the Bibby trade netted cap room and a 2nd round pick, not first.

OK

Thanks didn’t remember the Kings getting a 2nd rounder. That might be a pretty poor pick because of how well the Hawks played this year. I could see the Kings taking Rubio instead of Griffin, but the National Media would tear Petrie a new one. The Kid better be the second coming of Pete Marivitch. Besides, it seems to me that Petrie is going to take a player that will help the Kings right away, not a player that may take a coupla years to develop, being this is a contract year for Petrie. I guess with 2 first rounders and 2 second rounders, the Kings are bound to find a serviceable point guard.

Another year, another chance to hope for the team !!

by FaStRmAn on May 3, 2009 5:23 PM PDT up reply actions

The national media would have torn the Blazers a new one if they took Durant over Oden,

But the Blazers would be laughing all the way to the second round instead of sitting at home with a second year rookie who contributed almost nothing in the Playoffs.

by Deleran on May 3, 2009 5:31 PM PDT up reply actions

Nah dude-

the pick was for last year.. it’s why the Kings had Sean Singletary AND Patrick Ewing Jr.

I do agree that whoever we draft with our first pick needs to be a star (that is if that’s your point).

To be fair, he didn't help matters with his play

His defense was garbage in the Boston/Chicago series as well.

by Deleran on May 3, 2009 7:52 PM PDT up reply actions

Yea, same old Miller

He is what he is. A player who is closer to retirement every time he suits up. I think we were lucky to get rid of him. His contract was worth WAY more than his skills justified. I am really concerned with the way Salmons played and how little we got for him.

I am going to root for Houston tomorrow

I know it is a hell of a long shot, but I would love to see Adelman bring home a ring. The Maloofs might be a lot more apt to think twice when medaling in coaching decisions.

Boston down 18 in game 1

They either really like giving themselves a high degree of difficulty or they are going to be in big trouble in this series.

Looks like a huge win for the Rox

Ron letting the offense come to him, gutsy performance for Yao, a flaming pile of Theus game for Kobe and this series may end up turning on PG play. Brooks with a very nice game.

Really like the move by Adelman to put in both PGs when Phil went with Kobe at SF.
