Well I obviously, like everyone else, want the first pick. If only to wash the still lingering taste of "With the first pick in the NBA Draft, The Sacramento Kings select Pervis Ellison from the University of Lousisville" out of my mouth. Blake Griffin is a lot of what this team needs. Interior presence, scoring from the post, rebounding, star quality, and a very recognizable name. How many current members of the team hadnationally recognized names while in college? By my count....1. Only Rashad McCants had any star quality while still in school. The Kings need that big splash on draft day.
My issue comes with what choice will be made, either at 1 or 2. I am worried about Ricky Rubio. Young, European, not much defense...etc... All the usual raps on Euro players. But this team knows that Rubio would be a splash as well. And with the Maloofs being the sort to make their opinios known, I worry that they will start putting pressure on Petrie to draft Rubio, when Griffin would be the better choice.
I come to the conclusion that Griffin is the better choice this way... how much better would Martin, Garcia, Thompson, and Beno be with Griffin on the floor? I say he alleviates pressure off of each of those players, expecially Martin and Thompson. Martin is no longer pressured to score 30 a game, and Thompson isn't the only low post presence on the team. Conversely, how much better does Rubio make Martin, Garcia, Thompson, and Hawes. Better obviously, but the jump would be better with Griffin. In my opinion.
P.S. Glad to be here.
