If Mr. Rubio becomes a King, He Needs a Logo

I drew these up a while back and didn't post them because flickr sucks and I didn't know how to get a url for my pics.  However, the Griffin thread today included some good suggestions (including tinypic.com, which is what I used).  So, thanks guys.

Anyway, I was thinking that if Rubio becomes a King, he'll need a cool logo.  In one pic, I have the name RICKY written to look somewhat like a crown.  In the other pic, I took the "R" from the Ricky Crown logo, and mirrored it.  Putting the mirror images together, you get a logo that resembles a fox.  I did this, because I think Rubio plays with a lot of smarts, trickery and craftiness, which are well-known traits of a fox.

Not to pull a Pookey and reply to my own reply

but Rancid is from the Bay Area and they might be down to represent Nor Cal and record a version of that song with some reworked vocals. Its a stretch, I know, but it’d be sweet

Rubio

Finally watched the Olympics tape vs. the U.S. Some observations:

Positives:

  • Excellent passer.
  • Very good feel for the game.
  • Doesn’t overdribble or dominate the ball.
  • Hustles on defense.
  • He’s young, so he has a lot of room to improve.
  • Does a good job of drawing cheap fouls and hits his free throws.

Negatives:

  • Not real athletic, although he has good height and looks to be a better than average rebounder for his position.
  • Not much of a scorer. Unsure about how good his outside shot is. The comparisons to Maravich don’t hold water because Pete was a scorer who could handle the ball, while Rubio is a ballhandler who really doesn’t look to score much.
  • Not a real strong finisher.

I also didn’t get much of a feel for how his defense would be if they isolated someone like Paul on him. Paul on the Olympics team doesn’t really play like Paul on the Hornets because he had guys like LeBron and Kobe to pass to. Same with Williams at least in that game: neither were primary scoring options like they would be in the NBA.

"The basis for winning an NBA title is having a superstar in his prime. Not an all-star, or a bunch of all-stars, but a superstar."
