2009 StR Community Draft Board: Pick #7

Blake Griffin, Ricky Rubio, Brandon Jennings, Tyreke Evans and Hasheem Thabeet were selected 1-5. Stephen Curry has been taken No. 6.

Reminder: THIS IS NOT A MOCK DRAFT. This is draft board, a list with the order of prospects you'd like to see the Kings pick. In other words, if we were the Kings front office, when our pick came up, we'd take the top name left on our board. So pick your choice, not who you think Petrie or anyone else would choose in a slot.

Explain your choice in the comments, and lobby for who should be added to the next pick's choices. Poll will remain open until 8 AM PDT on Thursday.

Stuck with Harden

I’m not necessarily nervous about Lawson. But I would be nervous that Harden ends up as a great player. Lawson’s range (neg and positive) seems smaller, and while Harden doesn’t seem like a “swing for the fences” pick against guys like Evans, Thabeet or Curry, he does seem like the more potential-ridden of these guys.

Torn between Lawson and Harden

I like them both, but I know more about Lawson’s game (I’ve watched him more). Lawson is a point guard, through and through. I like the way he demonstrated an ability to elevate his game when it really mattered in the tournament.

Lawson and Harden feel like 7 and 7a, as opposed to 7 and 8. At least in my mind.

Never forget: I am a complete idiot

Gotta Go Lawson

Especially because need, especially as G mentions above, should be a tie-breaker if you think the players are essentially of the same quality. I think Lawson and Harden are of similar quality, but because Lawson fills a greater need, and the fact he’s BPA still in my view, that makes him a higher pick. (I would also pick Stephen Curry ahead of Harden, but that’s me.)

Lawson

Cause he’s the most ballinest of these candidates

There are still

Like 6 dudes on this list better than Stephen Curry.

Lawson again for me.

I’ve explained my pick about 3 times now.

Went with Lawson

although guys like him and Flynn remind me a little too much of guys like Mookie Blaylock, Sherman Douglas and Mateen Cleaves. But given our problems at PG, I had to go with Ty. He’s also arguably the BPA on this list.

I’m still perplexed as to why we’re given a choice at #7 of guys like Calathes, but not Eric Maynor. Maybe it’s because the editors here are intentionally withholding him from consideration so that he’s definitely available at #23? That’s brilliant! I applaud that approach.

Harden

Until he is off the board (and keep Calathes off until Harden wins a spot!).

Lawson?

Aww, C’mon. We gotta go with Harden here

Lawson

He’s the best player available and fills the PG need for this team. Harden could be, at best, a sixth man on a good team.

Weakness of this draft...

I don’t think this draft is nearly as weak as people have speculated when you compare it to last year’s crop. Derrick Rose is probably the best player of either draft. But outside of him, I’d take Rubio or Griffin ahead of anyone drafted in 2008. Eric Gordon and OJ Mayo look like they could be stars, but Tyreke and Jennings could most likely be just as good. 2008 may have been slightly stronger, but I think Ty Lawson could be just as good a prospect as the guy we were all stoked on last year, Jared Bayless. We’ll obviously have to wait a year or two, but I like this draft class, almost as much or more than last year’s.

I wonder why

all of those scouts aren’t trying to hear what you have to say.

DeRozan

Picking purely on talent here. DeRozan is a project, but he’s got insane athleticism and could potentially be a good, if not, great player in this league or a complete bust. The rest of the list I see as “safe” picks who will probably be starting/barely starting material.

Picking purely on *potential here…

I picked Ty Lawson at 6

so I will pick him at 7.

He has proven skills, speed, strength and defends well. He has BB IQ and was the Mateen Cleaves of an NCAA champion (wait, that didn’t come out well).

DeDe seems kinda Gay to me (Rudy that is), not that there is anything wrong with that.
