2009 StR Community Draft Board: Pick #8

Blake Griffin, Ricky Rubio, Brandon Jennings, Tyreke Evans, Hasheem Thabeet and Stephen Curry were selected 1-6. Ty Lawson is your No. 7.

Reminder: THIS IS NOT A MOCK DRAFT. This is draft board, a list with the order of prospects you'd like to see the Kings pick. In other words, if we were the Kings front office, when our pick came up, we'd take the top name left on our board. So pick your choice, not who you think Petrie or anyone else would choose in a slot.

Explain your choice in the comments, and lobby for who should be added to the next pick's choices. Poll will remain open until 8 AM PDT on Friday.

And I gotta go Holiday here.

Same here

Holliday it is…

Question: What kind of bear is best?

I guarantee

that this pick will be a PG, too. Can you tell that this fanbase wants a point guard?

by furious.d on May 14, 2009 8:52 AM PDT reply actions

It will likely be Harden or Holiday

And, to that end, I’d rather have Holiday. Even if Harden turns out better, I think the risk is good enough with Holiday that you roll the dice on him.

If this draft was deep full of SG’s, I would be saying the same thing.

full disclosure

I thought Harden was a combo guard

Salmons

Harden is John Salmons in a smaller, more compact body. Harden is basically a scorer.

I prefer Holiday to Harden

but I had to take Harden just cause he is consistently ranked higher on alot of the mocks I have seen, and I have to defer to the experts. If a scout told me he’d take Holiday here, I’d be happier tho.

by DustyG on May 14, 2009 9:06 AM PDT reply actions

With you on that

Don’t have enough info so I have to rely on the ‘experts.’ Holiday is next on my list

Can Harden really play SF?

I’m asking because on the poll he is listed as G/F. To me that would make a pretty big difference in his value for the Kings. If he can rebound and defend like a SF (like Roy can do), then IMO his value jumps up quite a bit. Hmm…

by DustyG on May 14, 2009 9:09 AM PDT reply actions

Probably not

He seems to have the strength to defend them, but i think SF’s would just shoot over him; he’s 6’4" and doesn’t have the athleticism to compensate for it either.

by kingsfan300 on May 14, 2009 9:20 AM PDT up reply actions

It'd be extremely iffy

He’s probably a two-guard. But I will note that Wade (same size, thinner) and Roy (a touch taller and thinner) play the three at times.

by Tom Ziller on May 14, 2009 9:38 AM PDT up reply actions

To be sure

I haven’t seen Harden play much (cause I’m not that into him). But it seems like many people are saying that because he is a similar player to Roy, and that Roy’s package was undervalued at drafttime, that Harden’s package will transition to the NBA gloriously as people doubted that Roy’s would.

So I think Harden might be overvalued just because Roy was undervalued and people think of them as similar. I want a Roy, too, but I don’t think Harden will do that.

I think that a more compact Salmons is a decent comparison. He seems crafty enough to get to the rim consistently, and prolly finishes decently for a less-than-explosive athlete for the position.

Teague

I voted for Jeff Teague. It was a toss-up between him and Holiday but I like Teagues game better. I also haven’t been as impressed with Holiday as I have Teague. Either one would be fine if the Kings can trade up to get them.

Harden is a good player but not for the Kings.

Cole Aldrich

Is he coming out this year? He is an intriguing player. Big center with some skils.

Next year

He’s a Top Five pick on a few mock drafts I’ve seen for 2010, but likely Top Ten.

Holliday, been voting for him since # 5

and will probably be voting for him until he gets off the board.

I pick Mr.Flynn. I prefer him over Teague and Holiday.

Harden is winning - I don't get that

Eric Gordon is an "undersized" shooter, too

And I believe that Harden is bigger than Gordon.

I think that he is the best player on the board, and I thought that a couple of picks ago. And while I’m at it, what does this team not need?

Talent, talent, talent.

I don't know Harden's game

But in regard to Gordon, he was much more than a shooter at Indiana. And he promises to be much more in L.A. too. If, on the other hand, Harden shares his ability to finish at the rim and off the dribble from midrange, then he’s definitely worth the 8th pick.

Jrue Love

I just like the name so much. DeDe is second for the same reason.

James Harden has nice game control skills when I watched him earlier in the year. He is the best player on a decent team and defenses keyed on him. He performed well all year until the playoffs. I like his game and that scares me.

DeDe has Gerald Wallace type skills – maybe he has more brains and less recklessness.

Holliday has the NBA body, skills, and seems to have good BB IQ. Let me just say that if he doesn’t come out this year I think he should stay in school….

always glad to place my usual pithy comments.

Stop thinking like a Kings fan and more like a GM

Who is the best available player at this point in the draft, regardless of position needs? Harden. He has slipped too far now. Curry, really!?? That early?? Not a chance.
