He played off the bench with this his box score:

Thanks for the box score Matenja
Is points of valuation like the +/- they use in the NBA??

You might want to ask him that in Spanish ed
He can probably explain it, but he isn’t great at writing in English in part cuz he’s literally Spanish.

No
it’s a kind of efficiency rating stats that I don’t really understand

That's why I don't understand it
It’s got a different rating system than +/-. +/- system is very simple to understand.

Correct. The formula is:
PTS + AST + REB + BLK + STL + PFs suffered + FTM+ 2PTSMade + 3PTSM – TO – BA – PF – FTA – 2PTSAttempted – 3PTSA
It became popular more due to a very successful fantasy type of game (supermanager) than exactly due to its statistical value (that it’s meaningless).

That's an amazing stat line
without the turnovers. With the turnovers, its merely a great stat line. I give him extra credit for playing while injured and his team winning while he was playing and getting blown out when he wasn’t.
Also, I think that Rubio won’t have as much a problem with turnovers in the NBA as he does in Europe since almost every time I read a Rubio game theres a few instances where its “Rubio passes, some guy fumbles it”. I think the athletic skill level and more practicing and playing with his team in the NBA will lead to more caught passes. I’m more impressed by the 7 rebounds and 4 steals in this stat line than anything else.

but most people list his “Great wingspan” in his strengths.

LOL
Rec’d your first comment. It always sucks having to explain the joke, eh?
You could have said something like “I wouldn’t be surprised if Rubio is 6’2” in his socks, but 5’11" with a shaved head, and his armlength is roughly that of a third grader."
That shit would have gone green my brotha.

I'd be Lying if I said the Assist-to-Turnover Ratio Didn't Bother Me.
But I’d also be lying if I said I was dissuaded by it.

Assist to Turnover
Couple of things to keep in mind:
1. As Aykis mentions above, there seems to be a lot of stories of Rubio making a pass, and the guy has trouble catching it. Could mean that turnovers will decrease with higher quality teammates, or it could mean he needs to make his passes more precise so that the guy has a better chance at catching it. Personally I think it will be more of the former than the latter, but it could go either way.
2. European scorekeepers tend to be stingier with Assist than NBA or NCAA scorekeepers. Assists should see a significant increase with the move to the NBA.

Related to your first point
Current roster of Joventut is really far from great and only few players are able to create their own shot or/and are great finishers. Rubio often takes risk he did not have to take last year (for example because of the presence of Rudy Fernandez) just so the team has a chance to score, many of his penetrations are blocked as he has noone to pass the ball to etc.
by KingsFanfromCentralEurope on May 18, 2009 4:04 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Not only that KFfCE
If you look at his stats, his Assist to Turnover ratio went, with Rudy Fernandez on the team, from 1.16 to 1 (assist to turnover), and this year, 2.1 to 1.
Today’s game meant he had to make a lot of plays, and the fact he played 30 mins greatly says something in my opinion.

Also
You can see Jerome Moiso, 49% careet shooter from the field in NBA and 59% in his first year in Spain (for Real Madrid) shooting 65% in two years with Rubio (partly after offensive rebounds, partly due to Rubio’s passes)

e.g. Calderon
Calderon in his best and last regular season in the ACB got 3.13 assist per game after playing 30 minutes per game). So Ricky’s 6.14 APG in regular season are very impressive in his 23 MPG.

Calderon also shot a ton better too

That's true...
…but we were talking about assist in Europe and in the NBA.

I know
Ricky’s a terrific passer and so was Calderon. But the difference is Calderon was 24 when he made the jump. Ricky will barely be 19 by the time the season starts.

It is quite interesting
and very useful to see so many people here watching the game as I did not have time today but what about other player mentioned in terms of drafts, Sergio Llull? From the boxscore, he seeme to have struggled, is that right?
by KingsFanfromCentralEurope on May 18, 2009 4:15 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
And this is really the final question
I see from the boxscore that Raul Lopez (the starting pointguard of Madrid) scored 16 points /second-best of his team/ despite playing only 26 minutes as he fouled out. That means a) what about Rubio’s defense on him and b) what about his defense on Rubio, i.e. did he quickly foul out on Rubio?
by KingsFanfromCentralEurope on May 18, 2009 4:37 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
And finally
Rubio’s season highs are 18 points, 8 rebounds, 12 assists and 6 steals (in different games, of course). It seems nice that he reaches his maximum in the most important games (even injured and with slightly limited time)

30 mins is alot though KFfCE
That’s not small time for a guy in the ACB.

Rubio updated his Tweeter (he tweeted I guess)
He just says he’s resting after a tough game. Tomorrow he has treatment on his hip injury as he kinda ‘re-injured it.’ He also thanks the crowd for the support.
I’ve been reading a couple of his updates and he sounds like a really good kid has a really good head on his shoulders, especially considering all the hype he gets.
