"Now if that wasn't good enough news for Kings fans, another rumor is flying around that Memphis wants to trade down. According to HoopsWorld.com, Memphis is looking to trade down in the draft in the hopes of saving money."

huh?

Wouldnt memphis trading down be bad for the kings. Memphis is somewhat set at point guard and a destination Rubio doesnt like. If they trade down that brings in a team that might not be as set at pg and a city that might be more enticing than Sac. Memphis, please stay put.

Or trade with Sac

A couple of issues I have with this story. First, Memphis has plentyof cap space. Why is money a concern? If the don’t need a pt. guard, fine, trade down. But not too far or you don’t get what you want. IF they want to trade down—and that’s a big if—I see it being a couple of spots at most, and probably not for cash.

Money is a concern because the franchise is in trouble.

My concern is they trade down with Washington.

I don't know

Washington was talking about getting rid of the pick because they already can’t afford it. If Sac wants Rubio, which we know they do, we are a far more likely trade partner.

Washington would love Rubio also though.

The only thing is they’d have to get rid of a contract (Etan Thomas, maybe Jamison). And if Memphis trades because of money, they won’t take a bad contract. So I guess you could be right.

Three million is the most the Kings can offer Kings as far as cash but...

that might be enough to make the deal work. Again, we have hashed out a few ideas like taking on Jaric and his bloated contract- I also proposed a swap of Nocioni for Jaric, its an equal contract deal but Jaric is useless and Noc was a person of interest for Memphis for a while.

I think the Kings can also do a preempted strike by offering up the 23rd for the #5 and Etan Thomas and then own both the 4 and 5 picks- then deal the 4 for the 2 and land both Rubio and a super athlete like DeRozen, Holliday or Evans (who by most accounts can play the 1,2, or 3). Washington is in a world of hurt. As of today they stand 6-7 million over the threshold before they pay for high draft pick. If the Kings take back Thomas and his 7.35 million, it would save the Wiz close to 15 million and allow them to stay in the draft with a substantially cheaper player. Etan would fill a short term need as a back-up 4/5 and give the Kings a whopping 16 million in expiring contracts to offer at the deadline.

I'd be all over that shit

Etan Thomas might have to go to Memphis with Jaric coming here. That way Memphis basically gets a year taken off Jaric’s contract which helps convince them to swap picks. But something has to go back to Washington for taking Etan Thomas

At that point I’d see what it would take to trade that #5 for Minny’s 6 and 18

No it doesn't.

The Kings are under the cap and can take back a contract a la Marcus Camby last year going to the Clipps.

No they aren't under the cap

Not until July 1 are they under the cap, and until then, assume the Kings are over the cap.

Thanks, someone who knows more about the CBA than you.

We have extra cap room that Washington doesn't

we can offer immediate relief to Memphis, while Washington can only give expirings.

Memphis does not need relief

In fact, they are close to being too far under the cap.

We can’t really make a trade for cap relief until early July, and even then, there is no guarantee the Kings will have cap room.

even so,

teams can agree to terms of a trade before the draft and wait until July to finalize them. Its not implausible that a deal could be struck and a team could pick the player Petrie wants then they wait a week or whatever it is and finalize the deal.

Yea thats not good news

If they trade picks with someone. That someone will more than likely pick up Rubio for sure. We want Memphis to stay put because they probly wont pick him.
