Kings basketball executives Wayne Cooper and Jason Levien were down in Santa Monica today checking out a pair of draft workout sessions at St. Monica High School. The workouts featured (in no particular order) Wayne Ellington (North Carolina), Gerald Henderson (Duke), Josh Shipp (UCLA), DaJuan Summers (Georgetown), and James Johnson (Wake Forest) as well as Jimmy Baron (Rhode Island), Ryan Ayers (Notre Dame), K.C. Rivers (Clemson), and Aaron Jackson (Duquesne).

If Johnson ...
… or Henderson stick around to No. 23, they’d be nice gets. Summers and Ellington closer to the 31, though I’m not a huge Summers fan. Ellington might end up as a Dahntay Jones type, if you pardon the UNC-Duke thing.
I'm getting ready to ride the Derrick Brown bandwagon at 23
I was hoping that the Kings could get him at 31, but I doubt he will drop that far with all the players who are no longer in the draft.

I love this
the mystery as to who will end up in a Kings uniform ….. makes me anxious for the new season.
Booyah!
Could be
but then again, Petrie could possibly get someone BETTER than Rubio. You never know.
Booyah!
He could get someone that turns out to be better than Rubio
but I think a lot of that depends on coaching as well.

Honestly
I would not be surprised if Petrie picks DeMar Derozan and keeps him.

After ? 11 seasons ? of Geoff Petrie
nothing he does would suprise me. That is why I drink the Kool-Aid – I can’t predict his moves so I can’t be disappointed when I don’t understand them.
I will say again, with 3 draft picks this year and three rookies (sorry Spencer) last year, the Kings have a lot of youth. Maybe too much, maybe not. As a talent poor team they need athletes and most importantly, which has hit the second page of all of our recent discussions. a Head Coach.

Eh I am a huge rubio lover, but we really don't know how well his game will translate
to the NBA. However, he is young enough, 18, and smart enough to figure out how to best mold his game going forward. The only problem I see with all the Rubio talk is most likely Geoff isn’t nearly as in love with him as we are and we cannot afford to give away our cap space and picks when we have so many needs to fill.
From a business standpoint I think the Maloofs would love to have Rubio as it would create an international buzz; when I visited Spain two summers ago the only basketball games you could watch were Grizzly games. Another positive effect of Rubio would be a connection to the humungous hispanic population we have here in Sacramento. Either way I don’t see us getting Rubio unless he slides to four, but my gut says if he is there Petrie will take him.
There’s also been a lot of talk involving swapping picks with the Grizz and taking back Jaric for K9 and I really believe after we just unloaded twenty million last year that the Maloofs don’t want to saddle themselves with an additional 6 million (sham has Jaric at 7.1m next year and 7.6m in 10/11 less K9’s 8.5m). Aside from that K9’s 8.5m expiring deal could be a major player during trade deadline time as his money comes off at the perfect time for teams looking to try to woo Bosh, Lebron, Wade, & co.

I think there's enough uncertainty ...
… that I, for one — a guy who voted Rubio over Griffin — could still be very excited without Rubio.
Blake Griffin doesn't get me excited
Even though he’s a terrific player in many ways. I think, and always will think until Griffin proves me otherwise, that the real franchise power in this draft is @ the PG.

Been watching a lot of Derozan lately
I think he has the potential to be the best player in the draft after everything has been said and done.
That said, I still would want Rubio or Griffin over Derozan.

Yeah DeRozan has potential
A place like Toronto would be great for him.

I don't know
Tyreke Evans seems like the perfect complement to their players there, and could easily be considered the best player on the board there. But, yes, you’re right.
