Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Everyone's talking about how well Rubio played vs. the US in the olympics. I missed the game. Youtube has about 50 photo slide-shows of Kobe Bryant photos, but no video. But finally I found every Olympic game in it's entirety streamed on NBC.

Question: What kind of bear is best?

I'm already into the 2nd qtr

It’s a pretty good game, but too many whistles early on.

Rubio Highlights of that specific game

They can be seen here if you don’t want to watch the entire game; the only thing is you won’t be able to see his weaknesses as when you would watch the whole game, so watch with caution. Rubio actually makes a nice strip of CP3 at the end of the game. If you want to see all of Rubio’s other highlights throughout the Olympic games, you can check out the Youtube user here to look at them; start on video clip 1 of 5 to thumb through all his highlights throughout the tournament. Each clip is nearly 10 minutes, so you’ll see a good amount of Rubio.

The game is fun to watch

Rubio hasn’t made much of an impact, and it’s late 3rd. I’m interested to see what happens from here on out.

Watching those highlights

it seems like Rubio is a bit faster than people seem to think. He’s not super duper quick, but the quickness he does have mixed with the tricky ball handling do quit well.

Thanks for sharing this

I’ll watch it tonight at home. I watched the game when it happened, but I was up in Alaska nursing a hangover. This will be a lot better conditions to re-watch :)

Never forget: I am a complete idiot

My favorite

highlight mix is this one. Of course, no weaknesses etc., but worthy of seeing him playing with good players, and only 3:14 minutes long.

by KingsFanfromCentralEurope on May 4, 2009 3:01 PM PDT reply actions

And the mix master spouts wise

Watching this game KFfCE, you can see that Rubio did what he really had to as a PG: Manage the game.

Offensively and defensively

And although it’s just highlights, I appreciate it as highlights from just two weeks of the most important games in his career so far (which makes it a bit different from ‘you could mix a highlight of Beno’s achievements…’)

by KingsFanfromCentralEurope on May 4, 2009 3:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah me too

What really impressed me is that Rubio didn’t try to take over the game or be the star. It was Spain vs the US.

I think the highlight for Rubio

Where was where he knocked the ball off Chris Paul out of bounds with 1:49 left. His lowlight was the tech when the game was already decided.

Good skills

I just don’t see a #1 pick there.

How well would have Blake Griffin done verus an NBA All-Star team?

You do realize that’s what Team USA had. Even if they were playing “roles” most of those guys are multiple time all-stars. The worst player on the team was probably MIchael Redd.

Maybe we should take Patty Mills #1

He dropped 20 on the US team in the quarterfinals.

Maybe we should JC Navarro

He sliced up the US in the gold medal game.

enough of them to overcome his lack of athleticism – once in a generation skills? Nope.

I thought it was Carlos Boozer who had that title? Hehehe!

Just to make it more relevant, we’ve seen Rubio against the trio of TEAM USA guards (KIdd, Paul, Williams). How would Griffin do against Melo/Lebron playing PF, Howard, Bosh and even Boozer?

There can only be one Noce!

by NoceOne on May 4, 2009 7:02 PM PDT up reply actions

I've made that point Noce

And while I don’t blame you for making it now, in retrospect, I wish I hadn’t, and for your sake, wish you hadn’t either. Rubio was in position to go up against those guys. Griffin wasn’t. It’s not fair to compare apples to grapes. Let’s not do that here.

He’s a talented player. And neither of those guys would be well equipped to stop him.

But he'll likely be the #2 pick

There’s a good chance that even if we get the #1 Petrie will trade down to get Rubio and something else

by vfettke on May 4, 2009 4:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Depends on who is trading up for Griffin

These type of scenarios are best hatched when you know what teams are where for good.
