As far as the fanshot is concerned

I wonder what they were so impressed with. Per Amick’s notes Flynn didn’t do a whole lot more than Jennings. It seems to me that their being impressed with Flynn has more to do with him far exceeding their expectations then him being better than Jennings or Holiday

Exactly what I was thinking

They knew what to expect out of Jennings (in terms of skills), and they got a chance to see Holiday before. Flynn was probable able to make a better impression because of expectations

Or they think that Flynn could do something they weren't expecting him to do like defend

It’s always possible. Flynn’s biggest problem is his size more or less. Not much else.

It kind of seems like Flynn and Jennings were a great matchup

seems like they both defended each other well some of the time and not so well other times. It’s nice that some of our top PG prospects have the ability to defend. That way we know its there and all they’ll need is the willingness to work their asses off

The media wasn't allowed to view the entire workout.

Maybe he showed some ability in the shooting and agility portion before the live game action. I can’t help but wonder if being a professional during the interview process didn’t also impress the Kings brass : ) Maybe Jennings should have shown up with a Kenny Smith wedge to land Jerry Reynolds vote. Oh…and this doesn’t bode well for Jrue Holiday’s stock if the Kings, the team many thought would draft him @ #4, found Jonny Flynn and Brandon Jennings more appealing.

I was wondering about Amick’s summary. News flash, reporters aren’t exactly the best evaluators of talent. I read a lot of NFL training camp reports and all they seem capable of reporting is the highlight of the day.

The truth is reporters don’t really watch the practice. Most of the time reporters are huddled around one another gossiping, comparing interview notes while sipping Starbucks. They only bother to look up and watch the play when guy jumps out the gym. Most sport fans know it’s the subtle, little things that make a better player but reporters have a natural blind spot for seeing it.

Amick didn't make the comments

He just reported that someone in the Kings org said Flynn impressed them.

On top of that, it sounds like you haven’t heard much about Amick because he is the go to guy when it comes to all things Kings. As far as I know (and anyone please feel free to correct me) he IS there for practices and he is not one of the guys “gossiping, comparing interview notes while siping Starbucks.” If you want to find out about the Kings, Amick is THE guy to read.

I disagree

Amick like every other reporter get’s his info from taking to sources. He’s not at practice watching players for his own evaluation. He’s networking around getting insiders opinion to report. That’s the "gossiping, comparing interview notes while sipping Starbucks" part.

He’s good at, don’t get me wrong. I like Amick. I was referring to his piece from a day ago where he thought Jennings dominated the workout based on his observations. Today’s report is the insider opinion, and states Flynn was the better player. I’m sorta slapping Amick on the hand for the earlier report because he should know better. He is not a talent evaluator, he should have waited to speak to his sources before declaring Jennings the winner over Flynn in his blog. That’s my gripe.

Your'e a fucking moron

He said of what he saw; he even qualified it by saying he didn’t have access to the whole thing. Before you run your mouth you fucking douchebag, know what the fuck you’re talking about.

Btw, you’re my new CC. Beware. You’re on my fucking shit list now asshole.

I'll even back this statement up

Here is the whole Amick blog entry.

The danger of this format, of course, is that’s it’s only a loose version of a real game and hardly the place for players like Jennings, Flynn or UCLA’s Jrue Holiday to show how they can run a team and make the most of teammates. It’s perfect for a guy like Jennings, who didn’t help Flynn with the question of whether he can defend and had little trouble getting around Holiday from what I saw either. Most importantly, his shot was far more accurate on this day than it was in his last two Euro League seasons in which he shot 37 percent and 38 percent, respectively.

Oh yes, that is someone who runs his mouth recklessly. How dare Sam state his opinion over what he saw since many people (like me) were waiting to know what his impressions were.

He also mentioned this part:

Now as much as Jennings stood out, the Kings – who were looking at these players as prospects for their No. 4 pick in the June 25 draft – must consider their specific need when it comes to type of point guard. Jennings described himself as a “pass-first” point guard afterward, but that wasn’t evident during the workout as he was clearly looking for his shot and putting his one-on-one skills on display. The media was privy to the final 20-or-so minutes of the session, with the curtain down for a good time before that which certainly included action that will affect the team’s decision-making process.
Again, how hard is it to simply discern that he was giving his impression?

Here is what you said:

Amick like every other reporter get’s his info from taking to sources. He’s not at practice watching players for his own evaluation. He’s networking around getting insiders opinion to report. That’s the “gossiping, comparing interview notes while sipping Starbucks” part.
Are you a reporter? Do you cover a NBA team for a living? If so, what’s your name?

He’s good at, don’t get me wrong. I like Amick. I was referring to his piece from a day ago where he thought Jennings dominated the workout based on his observations. What planet do you live on? Is tweeting, a one line message, a report? Are you stupid, functionally retarded, or do fucking arrogant to actually clearly state your point? Inquiring minds want to know.

I was wondering about Amick’s summary. News flash, reporters aren’t exactly the best evaluators of talent. I read a lot of NFL training camp reports and all they seem capable of reporting is the highlight of the day.

What does NFL training camp reports have to do with the NBA draft?

Who said that Amick’s evaluation of talent is in question here? Is it? By whom? You? If that’s the case, you need to stick a 10 foot pole up your ass unless you can figure out what’s seriously wrong with your statements.

You stated this twice. Are you a reporter? If so, for what sport and what’s your name? I feel sorry for your readers if this is the case. Not only are you a terrible typer; you’re a terrible thinker who clearly cannot get his/her point across in a coherent useful fashion.

I'm just curious

… No Kings provided video of this workout, as in the previous WOs and the one the next day.

Then we get this “leak” that the Kings were impressed by Flynn. No word on Holiday or Jennings.

Any mention who

and where’s that info from?

Nope

Can’t be Holiday’s though, and it isn’t likely to be any of the other guys in that workout.

I don’t think it matters, but if I had to guess, I would say it was probably Flynn’s agent.

Agreed

Could be a lot of missinformation at this stage in the game. No point in tipping our hand in case a trade is made. That being said, I don’t think missinformation is really Petrie’s style (lack of information maybe).
