Yet another Trade scenario...

If Rubio slides, would you trade Rubio and Donte for Brandon Jennings and Anthony Randolph (assuming Jennings slides to #7)?

Put Randolph and 3 and Jennings at the 1. I think it would make us more athletic, better defensively and better in rebounding. If Jennings and Randolph worked on their Js, we would be unbelievably fun to watch.

What say you?

PS--Nice work on the radio TZ.  Really was hoping for the "Peaches" reference, but I liked that Pooky got some love.

I don't like giving up Donte....

maybe a Rubio and the 23 and or 31 first that package.

IMO, Randolph is the better player now and in the future...

I think Randolph is a potential multiple time All-Star; however, he chafed under Nelson as a rookie (not unusual). If we could use this draft to upgrade 2 positions, I think we could really help the team.

why wouldn’t we keep rubio? we’ve been praying to the basketball gods for him. also, we still need to give donte the chance this year to let him develop.

My fear about Rubio...

…is his lack of both athleticism and a jump shot. It’s a major concern. In the NBA, you can get away with not having one, but rarely if ever, do you get away with not having either.

You can succeed not being super athletic if you have a jumper (that in essence makes you quicker because people have to guard you a step closer for fear of that jumpshot), but I can’t think of the last player to really succeed on a major level that didn’t have one or the other. When picking in the top 5, you need that pick to really succeed.

I also am very suspicious of player’s who just have “it”. When scouts talk about players and they reference them as “gamesmart” or “savvy”, bells just go off. The NBA draft is littered with these types of players, and the record is not good. Mike Dunleavy comes to mind (and he supposedly had a great jumpshot).

Ricky may develop a jumper. Magic did. Stockton’s jumper got way better with work, but that is a big gamble.

Ya I don’t see the appeal for GS. #14 drafted PF for #28 (?) SF? GS gives up size and the higher rated prospect. Not to mention Randolph had the much better rookie campaign.

by bignerd on Jun 16, 2009 12:36 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Um, they move up 3 spaces to get Rubio?

Assuming they had Rubio ranked higher than Jennings, they are able to move up from #7 to #4 and get the highest ranked point guard. To do so, they need to give up Randolph, who did have a much better rookie campaign than Donte. You don’t get to move up in the draft without paying a price, and the price in this case is Randolph for Greene.

Also, I think Randolph is a more natural 3 that can play 4 (much like Donte). Only in Nelson’s system is he considered more of a 4.

by R-Man on Jun 16, 2009 6:23 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

The Warriors don’t want to move up. All reports indicate that they are more than pleased with the talent available at #7.

I hope not. I'm looking forward to this inevitable Kings vs Warrior clash.

After June 25th I’m looking forward to these positional rivalries for years.

Kevin Martin vs Monte Ellis
JT vs Anthony Randolph
Rubio vs Jennings (reverse if you like, but I don’t think it will be draft feasible)

For being so close in proximity and in conference the Kings vs Warriors rivalry has been comparatively awful. Either one team sucks or we both suck so it doesn’t matter. Also, neither franchise has been able to step on each other toes on the court. Mostly we shoot ourselves in the foot before the other team gets it’s chance.

If Jennings and Rubio end up cross town rivals it’s going to ignite a war that’s been heating up for years.

A war of mediocrity.

All for that trade

I think someone already brought it up, but I really do not see how Ricky fits in with the current offense we have in place. He needs to be able to make jump shots and from what I have read that is a huge area of concern in his game. On the other hand it seems Jennings has a pretty good shot, and is able to make plays with his speed.

AR is a player I would love the Kings to get their hands on. The guy has superstar written all over him. I think in the long run the guy is going to become a multiply superstar in the league. I also think he will become one of the top 5 players from the draft too.

While I think Donte Greene has a bright future ahead of him, this is one of the deals I would be all for.

We have an offense in place?

Exactly

Do we know what Westphal is going to run at this point?

by otis29 on Jun 16, 2009 8:44 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yep

Westphal is an experienced coach. He will run whatever offense suits the players he has best. It is counterintuitive to assume that we should draft a player that best fits the offense he might run.

by Charlieb on Jun 16, 2009 9:12 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

And-

the past offenses he has ran have included great point guards (Payton and Johnson).. Rubio will fit in just fine.

We hired a coach with past offenses?

Hope he’s gotten all the DUI’s and B and Es out of his system. ;p

Getting Randolph would be amazing

But I’m not aware of any reason to think that the Warriors are going after a PG or trying to move up.

by furious.d on Jun 16, 2009 4:55 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I'm against the trade

I’m not sold on Jennings at all, and I would rather have Rubio than Randolph, so I’m against it. An interesting related question would be Rubio + Dante for [insert your favorite PG here that might be available at 7] + Randolph.

by hungrydog on Jun 17, 2009 11:54 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Hell yeah

But Warriors would never trade Anthony Randolph because of his defensive skills and crazy athleticism. And Monta wants out if Warriors acquire a true point guard. Donte Greene isn’t close to becoming a starter yet like Randolph is.

I think people give Donte Greene more credit on this blog than he deserves. I’d make that trade in a heart beat. I doubt Golden State would ever agree to it.

by cbsf on Jun 18, 2009 12:28 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I don't think that it's "credit"

I don’t see people writing about how great a player Greene is – just what he may become. Dude is 20 years old, for crying out loud.

He's actually 21

Born: February 21, 1988.

Not that this affects your point. Just for accuracy.

Donte is 21 in body and 20 in soul.

Anthony Randolph is 19.

To me, there is much more upside there than with Donte who couldn’t get off the bench. Don’t get me wrong, I like him as a person and he has potential, but I wouldn’t keep that from trading him for a more proven young player.

With this proposed trade, it’s all about whether or not you think Rubio is obviously, significantly better of a point guard than Brandon Jennings. If you believe that, then you probably wouldn’t do that trade. But you shouldn’t do it just because you don’t want to give up Donte Greene.

I personally think Jennings will be the better point guard, but we’ll see.

by cbsf on Jun 18, 2009 3:46 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Plus, think of the starting line up we'd have with that trade

Brandon Jennings
Kevin Martin

Anthony Randolph
Jason Thompson
Spencer Hawes

Young, athletic and exciting. To me, it’s a no-brainer. And the Warriors would never fall for it.

by cbsf on Jun 18, 2009 3:52 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I like Rubio more than Jennings,

so I probably don’t make the deal. And watching Randolph last year, his talent is obvious, but I’m not sold on his head. Granted, he is not the first youngster to clash with Nellie.

I would file this under “interesting proposal,” not “no-brainer,” but that’s just me.

It's not just you.

I’d even go one step further and call it VERY interesting . . . but I agree that it obviously doesn’t reach “no-brainer” status.
