Around SBN: Ohio State And Florida Target 2013 Receiver Recruits

"Kings co-owners Joe and Gavin Maloof, who would have to commit to a potentially complicated legal process and/or potential trade scenario if Geoff Petrie identifies Rubio as his NBA Draft Day target (at No.4), are flying in from Las Vegas early Wednesday to watch the 18-year-old run through some drills during an early afternoon workout. Details of the session are unclear, though apparently it won't be too extensive. Rubio recently finished his EuroLeague season and has been taking a break physically. Nonetheless, I am sure Petrie and new Kings coach Paul Westphal are curious for a closer peek."

forget the workout

“The body. Having only watched Rubio on television, most closely during last summer’s Olympics, I was surprised by his physique. Dressed in a black T-shirt, shorts and sneakers, he appeared taller than his listed height – close to 6-foot-5. He also had better definition, particularly in his upper arms. He wasn’t the skinny young thing he looks like on the tube.”

He is starting to sound like he has Tyreke Evans’ body, without the time in the weight room.

Not that anyone cares

But I totally called it, on the workout and the restaurant. I hope he ordered the mussels… no one has better mussels than Aioli.

Also from the “talking to myself” file: I’m glad Ricky got to scope out Midtown a bit (and one of the most “happening” parts of Midtown too) instead of being secluded in Natomas his first night here.

Aioli has muscles?

Who woulda ever thought that.

Too funny...

.. yeah OKC and Memphis how you like them apples. If Ricky takes pitty on you and grants a workout then you’ll only get our sloppy Sactown seconds. Glad to see Aioli was the dinner stop. The best Spanish food in town.

Damn you Robert Horry!!!

Best Spanish food in town...

OK, I get it, but wouldn’t you be kind of pissed if you went to Italy and they took you to the best American food place in town?

Not if I was potentially staying in Italy for a long time..

.. (say 10-15 years for arguments sake) and I wanted to see if there was someplace I could get some authentic grub when home sickness kicks in.

It would only piss me off

because American cuisine is like feces compared to a lot of European food. Although I love me a good steak.

Seriously though

It could have been a big deal that he was able to order his meal in his native language and to eat what he likes. He’s 18 and this is his first trip to the states, and personally I want him to be as comfortable as possible right now. This whole process must be pretty nerve wracking for him. He’ll have plenty of time to find the best steak in town.

Which is still Ruth Chris' right?

Ha.

Still havent had Ruth's Chris

I’m new in town, but I plan on going. Is it good?

FYI – the imported Kobe Filet ($135) at that steak restaurant in MGM Vegas is not that great. I wasn’t dumb enough to order it…but my friend was! It was only mildly better than the American corn-fed filet at about $50.

Never been there wouldn't know

But it’s a pretty exclusive chain. As far as I know there are only 2 in town. One on Fair Oaks blvd, and the other is part of the Roseville Galleria (on the backside).

Rubio’s representatives initially said he would only interview in Sacramento, but the question of what basketball activities he would engage in during his visit – if any – was still being discussed while the two parties shared dinner.

Wonder if TZ's going to be there

I remember he was there for the Evans workout. I’m guessing he won’t because it’s going to be a very small and extremely private workout but who knows. I’m sure he’ll let us know..

by eduardo_m7 on Jun 17, 2009 11:14 AM PDT reply actions

My guess

If there’s a workout it will be, as you said, extremely small and private. They may not even let Jerry Reynolds in there so he doesn’t frighten him with his folksiness…

JR: Ricky… you’re Rubiawesome!
