2009 StR Community Draft Board: Pick #27
Blake Griffin, Ricky Rubio, Brandon Jennings, Tyreke Evans, Hasheem Thabeet, Stephen Curry, Ty Lawson, James Harden, Jrue Holiday, Demar DeRozan, Jonny Flynn, Jordan Hill, Jeff Teague, DeJuan Blair, Earl Clark, Eric Maynor, Terrence Williams, B.J. Mullens, Tyler Hansbrough James Johnson, Patrick Mills, Omri Casspi, Sam Young, Chase Budinger, Gerald Henderson and Darren Collison are off the board in the first 26 positions on our board.
Reminder: THIS IS NOT A MOCK DRAFT. This is draft board, a list with the order of prospects you'd like to see the Kings pick. In other words, if we were the Kings front office, when our pick came up, we'd take the top name left on our board. So pick your choice, not who you think Petrie or anyone else would choose in a slot.
Explain your choice in the comments, and lobby for who should be added to the next pick's choices. Poll will remain open until 8 AM PDT on Friday.

I went Green
But it’s been a real toss-up for me. I could be convinced on Brown, Beaubois, Calathes and Summers.

Voted Beaubois
Guy has 6th man of the year, Bobby Jackson 2.0 written all over him, and we could even leave him in Europe a year if we wanted to. I wouldn’t recommend that though unless we resign BJax to the vets min for a year.

Same, he has a lot of talent and can slash and play point...
a good backup plan this late in the draft.

Austin Daye reminds me of a crappier version of Tayshaun Prince

I went with Daye.
I want to hear more of the argument for Brown.
I really like Heytvelt, Beaubois, and Meeks, but in the second round. I’d love to have that choice at #31.
Now I’m typing this after Aykis calls Daye crap.

Combo F
6’7 without shoes. 7’2 wingspan. Plays the 3 & 4. (Means that he’s interchangeable with Donte. Or Noc or whomever.) Is said to be very athletic and definitely is defensively oriented. Offensively challenged is usually described to take him.
I’ll be shocked if he lasts out of the 1st round. The Kings badly need a player who can A) complement Donte, B) complement Shawes & JT down low, and C) play tough physical aggressive (athletic too) defense.
Brown qualifies on all fronts. Better than any player in the draft in my humble opinion. Oh, and he’s also pretty smart too. He’s already got a degree in marketing after 3 years at Xavier.

Just the feel I got from watching him this season.
Playing for UNC, he is one of the few players in the draft that I have actually seen a good amount of. He was an extremely important part of their title run but in my opinion it was as a versatile role player. I just don’t see a role player in college (even though it was on the best team) having a great chance of making it in the NBA. I was just curious to the reasons why you guys like him here because I respect the opinions of you and Ziller especially

Why I like Green
He’s a skilled athlete, has a good jump shot, and good measurements. He certainly was not a leader of the team at UNC, which makes his numbers even more impressive (remember, I’m a big believer in context).
I think if you’re looking at the 27th players on your list, you love a guy who is versatile and knows how to be a good role player (with a small chance of becoming more than just a role player). I could see him developing into a nice starter some day, or a helluva 6th man.

I'm convinced
Green would be a quality late first round pick. You’d get exactly what you would hope from that slot – a quality rotation player for a few years to come.

of Clark slipping to #23?

Moved from Ellington to Brown here
I would have gone Day, but he just has not impressed with me – he has tested out to be slow and guys like Casspi have gotten the best of him at some of the workouts. I’m probably at Brown/Ellington/Beaubois/Calathes (30th pick!)/Green at this point.

I like Brown and Calathes
and both have worked out for the Kings (with Calathes returning on Sunday), but I’m sticking with Heytvelt for now. (He’s also worked out in Sacramento already.)
“Josh Heytvelt was also very good. He shot the ball great. He rebounded well, and he looked tougher than advertised. He doesn’t say much, but he’s pretty athletic and his skill level is very good for his size.”
- Via DX following the New Jersey workout on June 14th.
Physically he compares somewhat to Troy Murphy but much more athletic – his vertical was 34", the same as Holiday and Evans. He just seems like a Petrie-style skilled big with the perimeter shooting, etc.

Heytvelt.

from everything I have read Austin Daye
is a highly skilled player with a low tenacity rating (fill in Rashad McCants line here ______). The knock on him is that gets mentally knocked down easily. (Seth Davis from SI, whom is one of the multitude of talent evaluators and prognosticators said of Daye: He is a guy that gets GM’s fired. Soft? The guy invented soft).
Does he make that Pillsbury dough boy sound when he gets hit? I don’t know. But I do know his combine results were disappointing for speed and jumping.
I think his antithesis is Ganai Lawal or Derrick Brown. Since I am also partial to Musketeer players I went with Derrick Brown to see what Brown can do for you – that means he has big UPS.

With the 4th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Rickeke Flynenningday, point guard from Europe, Memphis, Syracuse, UCLA and Parts Unknown.
