2009 Sactown Royalty Draft Contest
I see a tall, soon to be rich stranger entering your life.
Last year, we held the first annual Sactown Royalty Draft Contest. Dozens of StR faithful matched "wits" in the hopes of correctly guessing the thought patterns of Geoff Petrie. Ball In Cup took the prize (a still yet to be designed t-shirt) with his shrewd choosing of Sean Singletary in the 2nd round. All in all, never have so many guessed so wrong for so little. Patrick Ewing, Jr.? Really?
Well, the stakes have been raised (though not the prize). Welcome to the second annual Sactown Royalty Draft Contest. This year we again have three picks, #4, #23 and #31. Utilize your cunning, guile, and inside knowledge, and you could walk away with the same yet to be designed StR t-shirt that we promised "Cup" last year. Talk about limited supply! (By the way, my idea for a t-shirt design last year – "Sactown Royalty…We drafted Sean Singletary and all I got was this crummy t-shirt" – was voted down at the Board of Directors meeting…stupid rbiegler!)
The rules? I tried to keep them simple, as I know my audience well –
-
In the comments section of this post, let us know who you think the Kings will draft with each of their 1st round picks, and then their 2nd round pick. Whoever gets the most picks right wins the next Sactown Royalty T-shirt (coming soon!...?).
-
In case of a tie, the correct selection of the #4 pick will be the tie breaker. The 2nd tie breaker will be the #23 pick. The 3rd tie breaker will be who posted their selections first. Ailene Voisin does hold veto power based on who she thinks is the sexiest, but TZ holds veto power over Ailene, so it’s all good.
-
One entry per person. Once you have entered you may not change your picks, unless you can prove that you are Chad Ford. The advantage to entering early is the tie breaker edge, while the advantage of waiting is any extra bit of news that you may pick up between now and Thursday.
-
Entry deadline is this Wednesday, June 24th, midnight PST.
Now go forth and think like Geoff. Speak in low, measured tones. Call out the kids in your neighborhood for a 2nd workout. Fill your gas tank to the full mid-level, no exceptions. You can do this. You will do this. You must do this.
Good luck. (UPDATE - 79 into the pool after the jump - )

Clarification question:
Can this be worded that the picks should be in order? If the Kings pick fourth but trade for the second an argument might ensue – one of the judges might be harmed. I am worried. Truly. Safety first and all that.
1st pick (currently #4)
2nd pick (currently #23)
3rd pick (currently #31).

Regardless of where the draft slots may fall, your first player listed is who you think the Kings will select with their first pick, and so on down the line.

De Colo is way too inconsistent
I see him being taking near the back end of the 30s or early 40s. His teammate Beaubois will either jump to late first round (possibly Lakers to keep him in Europe a year) or early 2nd.

question
Are we picking who we think the Kings will end up with at the end of the night, or who will be selected at the #4, #23, and #31 slots? Like say I pick Evans at #4…if we trade up to #2 with Memphis, take Rubio, and Memphis takes Evans, do I get credit?

I'll let you go the trade route as long as you are specific

That's why I picked Evans
I think if we get high on Rubio, we’ll have to do a K-9 for Jaric swap along with 4 and 2. But then again, Evans doesn’t seem to fit in Memphis. Both him and Mayo need the ball in their hands. Harden or Thabeet maybe.
Father of the "Natt this!" movement.
by Aykis16 on Jun 19, 2009 9:05 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
My guesses
First Pick: Rubio (contract buyout will be too much to bear for OKC and Memphis who already have PGs)
Second Pick: Earl Clark (going out on a limb and having him drop to us. He drops to us, we pick him. 6-10 who can play 4 positions?? AND rebound? Enough said)
Third Pick: Nick Calathes (talented PG who can be a great long-term investment for the Kings…AND at a bargain 2nd rounder price, as well. He could be the potential replacement for Beno once Beno’s contract expires.)

SO...my REAL picks have been covered by others, thus I take the unconventional approach:
Evans
Teague
Claver.
Beno still starts for the first half of next year, until we trade (at the deadline) K-9 for Nate Rob. We end the season with Nate Rob, Evans (K-Mart out due to injuries), Noc, JT, and Gortat (because Hawes is injured).
We have the best odds at landing the 4th pick in the draft, and ironically, move up to first. We draft John Wall.
2010-11 season starting roster = Wall, Martin, Greene, JT & Hawes. Nate Rob complains about not starting and we package him and Noc in a trade to Boston for expirings. Beno is the new K9, and Evans gets consideration for sixth man.

been visiting 4 a year this is my first comment i had 2 get in on this!
#4-tyreke evans, #23-omri casspi, #31 eric maynor. now this isnt exactly my preference i would b happy with #4-rubio/evans/or jennings in no particular order, terrance williams/sam young in that order, #31 omri caspi. i like caspi but not @ #23 if t-will is there i think he is gona b a defensive monster & leader sum1 to take on the kobe’s & roys of the west but if petrie likes caspi he wont risk him being taken 24-30

Thinking Rubio will be gone...
…and the Kings make a trade or two……I still see Nate Robinson getting to Sac, making a PG unneccesary with the first pick.
1st pick- Demar DeRozan (potential star swingman)
2nd pick- Sam Young (athletic, defensive specialist)
3rd pick- Toney Douglas (back up PG, defender at the point)
