The Sacramento Kings had been the most likely team to cut a deal with Memphis to move into the second spot to take Rubio, but league sources say the Kings’ motivation to do so has waned. The Kings don’t want to give up Jason Thompson and their fourth pick to get to No. 2, especially considering there’s a chance Rubio could drop to Sacramento anyway. Fegan has no issues with Rubio in Oklahoma City or Sacramento, but he’ll be difficult if the point guard ends up in Memphis.
Minnesota’s offer of a package that includes Kevin Love and a first-round pick intrigues Wallace too, sources say.
Wallace is enamored with University of Memphis freshman Tyreke Evans but thinks he could move down and still draft him. Nothing happens in this draft until the Grizzlies make a decision; then the dominos will start to fall.

Kevin Love and the 6th pick for #2?
If I were Memphis I’d be all over that. That’s almost as unfair for Minnesota as JT and #4 is unfair for Sacramento. It solves Memphis’s problem at Power Forward, and with the 6 pick, you can get another impact player.
This leads me to believe a lot of these rumors are false. So many of these trade ideas are so one sided to Memphis its ridiculous. Rubio might turn out to be a superstar but he also has the chance to bust.
Father of the "Natt this!" movement.
It could also be Kevin Love and the 18 or 28 pick
Kevin Love and 18 is more likely since Memphis has 27.

Still sounds like a lot to give up
But I’m a big Kevin Love fan. I’m not sure there is a single player in this draft better than Kevin Love.
Memphis can’t trade down too far if they expect to get Evans. If Rubio is gone, I have a hunch Petrie’s going to pick Evans (and maybe if Rubio isn’t gone either).
With the 4th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Rickeke Flynenningday, point guard from Europe, Memphis, Syracuse, UCLA and Parts Unknown.
The Kings will draft Rubio.
He has been the predicted number 1 pick all year. The predicted number 1 pick next year and he had a very good year in spain. He has so much talent for passing the ball and being a ball hawk. We have to take him.
Hope

And if Minny is
offering us the 6th and Love for Rubio?
No brainer. The rumor isn’t all that realistic though. But it is Minny.
Bé foréwarnéd: I am a mémbér of StR Groupthink méntality.
I truly relish the thought of Rubio in a Kings uni
and I would give it up for Kevin Love and the #6 in a (broken)heartbeat. In fact, I would do Kevin Love and the #6 for Blake Griffin.
I am still in favor of #6 and Love to Memphis for the #2 (Rubio) – It renews my dreams of a Gay, Love with some Mayo union.

Couple of things...
I just read this from Simmons’ Twitter feed:
NBA scuttlebutt: New T-Wolves GM David Kahn = homeless man’s Chris Wallace. Everyone is excited for his 1st horrible trade.
If this is reliable, then Love & #6 could really be in play here. If it is, I think Memphis would be crazy to pass it up (it would be funny to see Love go back to Memphis though). That said, if Rubio falls and Minny still has this offer on the table I also think that the Kings could be crazy to pass it up.
As Otis points out, there may not be a better player in this draft than Kevin Love. To get Love and still be able to pick up one of Evans/Holiday/Jennings/Flynn/etc. at #6 would be exactly the kind of big move that people in Sacramento want to see out of this draft.
There’s always a risk when trading someone like Rubio, but if Petrie made this deal (or if he didn’t) then I’d have the confidence that he was/is smarter than I am.
Very true
if we landed Jennings and Love I might cry tears of immense joy. That changes our team so much. Our front court is locked up for like 10 years. Our PG would obviously need a few years to develop, but he’ll be good. Our SG position is no problem. We’d have a few decent backups in Cisco, Noc, and Beno (I’m using a loose definition of decent here, ok?). Our only major flaw will be at the 3, which Noc or Cisco can fill until Donte becomes a monster.

Yep yep
Minnesota fans would probably storm the gates if this type of trade goes down. There would have to be some additional sweeteners for them (additional draft picks, expiring contracts, etc.)
What if it was Love and the #6 for JT/Spencer plus the #4?
With the 4th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Rickeke Flynenningday, point guard from Europe, Memphis, Syracuse, UCLA and Parts Unknown.
No
I like the idea of having all 3 bigs. I think we’d have to throw in the #23 and maybe Donte, which I’d be willing to do.

I agree
Your deals are more amenable, but I’d be sorely tested to pull the trigger on the first.

It's a tough call
I think Love is definitely an upgrade over JT or Hawes. His rebounding rate is through the roof. Plus, I just like the kid in general. But the thought of having a front court of Hawes, JT, and Love for the next several years makes me cream my pants.

who needs rubio when John Wall
will be there for the kings to draft next year haha, esp with that front court rotation

First the outrageous Minny Trade
and now a Devin Harris Trade rumor?
Memphis is full of it. Petrie will eat Chris Wallaces’ soul.

I think there's a definite chance
That OKC could draft Rubio. I don’t think it would be hard to convert Westbrook to the 2.
Agreed
I’m more worried about OKC than Memphis, especially since Rubio is not totally adverse to going there.
Bé foréwarnéd: I am a mémbér of StR Groupthink méntality.
I'm worried too
But I think OKC is much more likely to be scared off by Rubio’s “complications” than we are. Maybe I’m making too much of this, but I think it’s kind of a big deal that we have Levien.
Plus, I feel like their fans would be okay if they took Thabeet or Harden or someone else over Rubio. I think these same things apply to Memphis as well, since both teams’ fans must already feel pretty good about their PG situation and not want to screw it up.

the thing that concerns me
is that, unlike wallace, sam presti has proven himself to be smart, talented, and pragmatic. if he’s convinced that rubio’s a can’t-miss talent, i bet he takes him and figures out what to do with his embarrassment of riches in the backcourt. imagine if westbrook became their sixth man? sixth men with all-star talent is sort of becoming a trend these days.
the fact that we haven’t heard peep from OKC about anything worries me. i bet dollars to donuts they quietly swoop in and take rubio if he’s there.
I actually read somewhere that the Thunder have hired a Spanish Lawyer
to take a look at the Rubio buyout issue, so my guess is he won’t drop past three.
There now I've met the 75 word count. -pookeyguru
Rubio Rumors
My inside sources from Memphis (college friend works in the front office) tell me that the Griz are developing strategy concerning Rubio as we speak. They know he doesn’t to play there and frankly, they really don’t want him either. They really want Evans and know they can get him at 4, but they would be willing to select Rubio at #2 if they could put a deal in to place with a team for draft day. They know Sacramento would be willing to talk about a possible swap for Kings selecting Evans at #4, possibly their #23 pick and a prospective future pick and or someone on the roster (i.e. Diogu or Green). FYI- Sacramento is one of a handful of teams in the mix for Rubio, so don’t get too excited, yet!
Stick it, Memphis
I’m great with Evans or Flynn. Let them deal with Ricky and the Spanish IRS.

Memphis, sad Memphis
Is there any tidbit of information they haven’t been willing to immediately leak this past month. I’m just waiting for them release leak a phone log containing every phone call since May complete with transcript.
This for an organization that was widely ridiculed (in Popovich case ready to go postal) for trading Gasol for an ham sandwich without ever indicating to anyone they were willing to deal.
I think every franchise in the NBA caught onto Memphis two weeks ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if everyone is calling Memphis just to get disinformation out in the public.
BTW, Wojnarowski
Did you notice something in that article Chad Ford? Like you, Wojnarowski also has his ear to the ground. The difference is Wojnarowski parses the gossip through a logic filter before including the information in his report.
Questions
Is Dontes true position at 3, or could he end up being a 4, as he is 6’ 10 and 220 odd, if he hits the weights he might put weight on. More so if he keeps his athleticism in todays NBA wouldn’t that make him a interesting match up for other teams?
How much better is Rubio than the other PG contenders in the draft, its a heavy PG is it worth giving up other talent to get a better player, is Rubio that much better than everyone else?
A front court rotation of Love, Hawes and JT, sounds pretty good to me, we can all dream can’t we
Answers (no guarantee on quality)
If he develops, I see Donté as a hybrid a la Rashard Lewis and Shawn Marion. He could cause a lot of match up problems. Emphasis on if he develops.
If the Minny deal is real (Love and #6), then it won’t be there for us, as Memphis will snap it up. I know that there is some question as to whether it would indeed be the #6 pick, but the rumor alluded to Memphis still being able to grab Evans at #6. That said, if by some miracle the Wolves were offering Kevin Love and all we had to do was move down two slots in the draft, I would think that we would make that deal.

Got a tweet from Dante

Hmmm
Let’s see Memphis has:
PG – Conley
SG – Mayo
SF – Rudy Gay
PF – Hakim Warrick
C – Marc Gasol
It would seem to me that they are set at shooting guard and small forward. Point guard is pretty solid but still unproven. Center is good but not star level and the power forward spot is in need of a major upgrade.
I don’t see any power forward worth taking with the #2 pick as the best in the draft is going to be taken #1 and the next crop would include the likes of DeJuan Blair, Jordan Hill, James Johnson, Earl Clark, Austin Daye and DeMarre Carroll. I could MAYBE see them reaching for Jordan Hill here but personally I think that would be a mistake.
Next weakest is at center. Hasheem Thabeet is the obvious choice. I think that if Memphis doesn’t take Rubio, this is who they will take.
I say its 50% Rubio, 40% Thabeet and 10% Jordan Hill.
Kings rule! (They are royalty - right?)
Think Brandon Jennings is mature enough to handle NBA life......

So many Sigmund Freuds running around StR right now, parsing tweets and interviews of different players and making conclusions on their mental health.
I eagerly await word on whether Brandon didn’t get hugged enough as a child or if he was pulled off the teet too early.

I wouldn't imagine so
Perhaps it would help you find the “reply” button.
There’s a difference between calling someone an asshole, and saying he’s a “Headcase McGee” and questioning his ability to “handle NBA life” – while pulling your data from a rather innocuous tweet.
With the 4th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Rickeke Flynenningday, point guard from Europe, Memphis, Syracuse, UCLA and Parts Unknown.
P.S.
From what I’ve read about Jennings’ treatment from the coaches and players in Europe, I’d gather he handled it rather well. I’m not sure how much tougher he will have it adjusting to life in the NBA.

if rubio is gone by #4
guys even if he is gone there is sooo much talent in the draft, that we WILL get a great player at 4…. hopefully its not Thabeet tho… that would suck
Trades
First off, the trade with Minn was for K Love and one of Minn’s later first round picks so you all can just forget about get him and the 6th pick.
Everyone is thinking about trading up to #2 to get Rubio, but I am of a different mind set. I think getting him and dealing with his european baggage isn’t worth it when there are plenty of other PGs in this draft that are almost just as talented. Plus, I think Petrie learned from the White Chocolate experiment. What are the possiblities of trading down to get a quality PG like Flynn? I know that the Knicks are looking to move up to get either Rubio or Curry and everyone team in the NBA has been looking at Washington with the #5 pick. Would swapping the #4 for the #8 pick + NY’s 1st round pick next year (unprotected since it will be most likely a lottery pick) be worth it? I really don’t see anyone on NY’s roster that I would want in the trade.
