2009 StR Community Draft Board: Pick #15

Blake Griffin, Ricky Rubio, Brandon Jennings, Tyreke Evans, Hasheem Thabeet, Stephen Curry, Ty Lawson, James Harden, Jrue Holiday, Demar DeRozan, Jonny Flynn, Jordan Hill, Jeff Teague and DeJuan Blair are off the board in the first 14 positions on our board.

Reminder: THIS IS NOT A MOCK DRAFT. This is draft board, a list with the order of prospects you'd like to see the Kings pick. In other words, if we were the Kings front office, when our pick came up, we'd take the top name left on our board. So pick your choice, not who you think Petrie or anyone else would choose in a slot.

Explain your choice in the comments, and lobby for who should be added to the next pick's choices. Poll will remain open until 8 AM PDT on Wednesday.

Ha you changed it (Good call--accurate representation--if only you could have the monster below--ha)

Yeah, if he wants to jump up to the top 5, he has to be at Treviso. He can’t have it both ways. (And I looked at the assistants of that camp. Some intriguing names, Bernie Bickerstaff’s kid, Bill Bayno, Jack Sikma. I’m just saying, that Americans have really helped European basketball along.) Ricky Rubio is going. Why can’t Jennings?

I forgot former Bucks head coach Terry Stotts, and Bob Hurley (Bobby’s father) who is also over there too.

Brandon Jennings must go.

A brief analysis

When we get to the range of players that I don’t know as well, my talent evaluation becomes ridiculous. Like, worse than normal.

I didn’t vote for either of the Louisville guys because I don’t like Louisville. In fact, that’s why I hated the Cisco pick, but now I love the guy. The lesson: they’re probably a smart pick here.

Didn’t vote for Maynor cause Commonwealth sounds like a commie school. And I was raised to have an irrational fear of communism.

I voted for Patty Mills, because I like underrated guards from smaller programs. St. Mary’s is kinda close to St. Joe’s (name-wise), so my prediction is that he’s the next Jameer Nelson (despite the complete lack of significant similarities).

But man I was tempted to go Hansbrough. Probably will next time around.

Never forget: I am a complete idiot

I'm still going Budinger.

The guy is an athletic sharpshooter with a High Basketball IQ.

Although Mills is enticing, as are the Louisville boys.

And I agree with Section Henderson needs to be on the list.

He is Budinger, with a worse jumpshot, and better defense.

Went with Clark

Dude can’t shoot yet, but is explosive like Josh Smith…

I also agree that Gerald Henderson should be added to the next list, along with Austin Daye and James Johnson. (I’d likely take both of them over Hansbrough, Mullens, Budinger and certainly Taylor Griffin.)

Also, nice avatar TZ…

What put Clark over the top

for you Aykis? I like him as well, but Williams seems like the better player to me.

by aKingisBored on Jun 2, 2009 2:28 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't know about Aykis

but I went with Clark over Williams because:

1 – Williams can’t create his own shot and his jumper is weak.
2 – Clark has excellent size for a 3 whereas Williams would be an undersized 3.
3 – Clark is a terrific shot-blocker and ball handler for his size.

"geez its like this site is so serious i jus wanna git mai opinyons on tha Kings out there ok" - TZ

by sroufe on Jun 2, 2009 2:41 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fair enough

but Clark seems like a tweener to me, whereas Williams has a more clearly defined position. And while Williams may be a little undersized for a SF he averaged almost exactly as many rpg as Clark. Plus Williams is better at setting up teammates(5.O apg, 2.0a/to compared to 3apg, 1.0a/to). And Clark isn’t that great a shooter either. I like ’em both, but I like Williams a little more.

"I'm too weird ta live but much too rare ta die"

by aKingisBored on Jun 2, 2009 3:03 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I don't think

being a “tweener”, whether it be between the 2/3 or 3/4, is that determinative when a franchise is selecting 15th overall. Especially when the players are only 21 years old like both Clark and Williams. It might matter more when you’re selecting 4th and trying to determine if Tyreke Evans is more of a 1 than a 2, but that is different.

I agree that Williams is an excellent defender and rebounder for his size/position – and that Clark isn’t much of a shooter either. I believe both players are capable of becoming better shooters obviously. But I think on potential alone Clark has larger upside than Williams and that’s why some scouts have previously placed him as a nearly certain top-10 selection. I also feel that this is a Kings draft board and I’d be more interested in seeing Greene and Clark compete than Williams and Garcia.

by sroufe on Jun 2, 2009 3:29 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

You're right about

being a tweener being somewhat unimportant at the 15th pick, and I think that Clark has more potential.

However, Williams possesses a skill set that better fills the Kings needs. I think that he is a better defender than Clark, a better passer, and about the same rebounding-wise. I see Clark as an offensively gifted combo-forward (something we already have in Donté), and Williams as a perimeter defender/point-forward (something we lack).

by aKingisBored on Jun 2, 2009 3:43 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Good arguments aKiB

LOL though, this debate is likely irrelevant to the Kings. However, I will finish with this:

“I see Clark as an offensively gifted combo-forward (something we already have in Donté)…”

I agree that you could currently label Clark as an “offensively gifted combo-forward.” But I think his athleticism gives him the potential to be an excellent defender as well. Especially in terms of shot-blocking, which this team lacks.

I disagree with the comparison to Greene because I think the jury is still out on him and you can’t have enough uber-athletic forward prospects.

“…and Williams as a perimeter defender/point-forward (something we lack).”

I agree with you in putting Williams in this category as well- but I don’t think it’s something the team lacks, as the franchise has already invested in Garcia long-term.

by sroufe on Jun 2, 2009 7:32 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

LOL

yeah this debate is kind of pointless. But I agree that Clark’s athleticism could make him a good defender, however I guess that what I meant to say was that I see Clark as being a better offensive player than defensive player, and that he would be a better offensive player than Williams.

I also agree that Garcia is somewhat a pont-forward, and is currently our best defender, but I think that Williams will be better at both of these things (defense and um…point-forwarding) than Garcia long term.

first of all

35 people think we should take Tyler EFFFING Hansborough (sic) with the 15th pick? I think this proves the “whoever is at the top of the list gets 35 extra votes” theory.
Secondly, question for the Wizard of West Folsom, are we assuming here that the Kings did not have a 4th pick? Or that we have no idea who they took at 4th? Or are we assuming that whoever was taken 4th in this list is their pick?

by Travis Mays Hayes on Jun 2, 2009 6:25 PM PDT reply actions   1 recs

TMH

Hansborough played for the national champions of mens basketball. That’s probably why. Somebody had to vote for somebody, and that’s why they did.

Who cares if the vote is off a little bit

If there is a significant number of people who’s votes are swayed by the player’s position on the board, then it’s all pretty pointless.

And besides it’s just for fun anyway.
