Chad Ford Mock 3.0
He has the Kings taking Holiday at 4 and Casspi at 23. Lawson falls to the Blazers at 24 in this scenario...if that looks like it may happen then I'd rather have the Kings take DeRozan at 4 and Lawson at 23.

Actually
Jennings isn’t currently slated to attend Treviso.

Really
That would be a mistake, imo

Discrepancy
DX’s listed Jennings as going to Treviso, here and here.
TZ, could you provide the link that says otherwise? Thanks.

A few weeks ago I wrote that some mock’s had Jennings beyond the 10th pick. There were many replies of doubt. Thar she blows, at least one big name agrees.

I don't care who the Kings select at No.4,
Petrie will select the BPA at No. 23 and No. 31. Therefore, if Lawson is still on the board at No. 23 they will take him despite having addressed the PG position earlier in the Lottery.
That said, despite what Ford posted, I still don’t see Lawson falling past Philadelphia at No. 17, let alone Dallas at No. 22…

Agreed
Lawson was mediocre to poor in Chicago. He’ll shine at enough of the personal workouts to climb back up the draft ladder.

His athletic results were actually pretty good
More reps on the bench press than many bigger guys (14), and among the quickest players.

Agree
you can’t pretend to know what’s going to happen later, and let that affect your pick at #4.
That said, picking Holiday (or Rubio for that matter) at #4 and a smaller PG like Lawson, Mills, or Collison later on would be fine with me. For parts of the game vs. the opponent’s bench, the two could play at the same time, with tall PG guarding opponents SGs.

anyone notice
that Patty Mills in this mock draft has fallen out of the first round, making him available at 31? In this scenario I would be for Petrie taking a point at #4 and another one at #31. I know its basically what you are all saying but I just wanted to put a finer errr, point, on it.
by Travis Mays Hayes on Jun 2, 2009 6:55 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think Darren Collison
And a guy like Evans, Jennings or even Rubio would be a nice haul. You need guys who can push players in practice every day. Collison has a better chance to do that.

Great pick
I agree with Collison. He could be a steal at #31 or even 23.

Not 23 dalt
The Kings have too many needs up front to not take a big there. It would be really great if the Kings could trade down in the 2nd round to get Collison and another player. But, I’m not hopeful that happens.

I agree
I said “could” be a steal not would be. Collison may be better than Mills and some others being talked about for the late picks. Either way, let’s just take Lawson at #23.

Harden
Does anyone agree that under this BPA ideology, the pick should be Harden if the draft goes Griffin, Thabeet, Rubio?
My opinion is that he is the best basketball player available at that point.
by KeonClark on Jun 2, 2009 10:19 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think he's the second coming of Eric Gordon
Which isn’t a bad thing, but I think he’s limited in what he can do for a team.

I desperately want Lawson
Granted, if Rubio’s available at 4 then forget I ever said that. But back when I was drunkenly reconciling with the fact that we got the 4th pick (which reminds me of a FanPost I need to do) I argued with Chris the Greek that we should take Lawson at 4 if we have to. Yes, I was drunk, but I was really impressed with is leadership during March. Plus I’ve always maintained that while a superstar pick would be nice, we really just need complimentary pieces. And I think Lawson has better compliments than Beno.

pointless exercise
it seem Ford finds out GP has spoken with someone or brought them in for a workout and then we are picking him… he’ll have at least 5 more iterations of this before draft day, so who cares?
by longtimelistenerfirsttimecaller on Jun 2, 2009 4:28 PM PDT reply actions 1 recs
Who made the great point
recently that Chad Ford is much better connected than he is gifted as an analyst? These two picks may not be bad. But certainly at 4 you are not drafting need, you are drafting player.
DeRozan and Lawson would be a good grab, too. But Lawson will be long gone by 23.
Lower their expectations and rise to met them

I agree with everything
except for Ford’s impressive “connections”. Maybe he’s “inside” with some teams but definitely not all of them and DEFINITELY not ours.

I've always thought Casspi at 23 is a legitimate possibility
Petrie has a habit of taking Euros a lot higher than they are projected, and those guys (Peja, Hedo), have both worked out. I have high hopes for Casspi, especially if Petrie picks him.
Claver could also be in play, but I see him still being around at 31 Casspi, maybe, maybe not.

If we got Evans with pick #4
We could easily have him and a guy like Mills, Collison, or Price on the floor at the same time. That would also take some of the pressure off evans as far as becoming our point guard. Evans, Lawal, and Mills would be a great draft if we’re unable to get Rubio.
by Big ZK on Jun 2, 2009 7:36 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
They also list the results of the athletic testing
I am very surprised by Harden. He is way more athletic than I thought. I was also not surprised to see that Tyreke Evan’s athletic abilities were a bit underwhelming. Great size, but not very special in other regards.
If both Harden and Evans are available at 4, I am much more intrigued by Harden. He is a stud. We don’t need a 2-guard as much a point, but if you’re talking best-available, i think its Harden.
by KeonClark on Jun 2, 2009 10:07 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I would pick Harden over Evans myself. The thing is, even if Evans is labeled as a possible point guard and Harden is definitively a two-guard, I think Harden is the better passer and playmaker. He is much better at controlling the game and involving his teammates than Evans is. Harden is good at so many different phases of the game. He can shoot. He’s has advanced dribble moves and body dekes to penetrate. He can draw fouls. He’s a great passer. Maybe he doesn’t have the athleticism necessary to be a star, but I think a good basketball IQ, good enough athleticism and polish goes a long way.
by Galeto on Jun 2, 2009 10:49 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Harden's upside is Brandon Roy
Harden is an unselfish play who isn’t afraid to score but is definitely a willing passer and good playmaker. He reminds a bit like brandon roy, a two-gaurd with a great all-round game who is not a super athelete who can run the point at times. Bradon Roy wasn’t overwhelming in college but turned out to be a great pro. Harden consistently makes good decisions on the floor.

Say the Grizzlies take Rubio
What’s the worst case scenario? Rubio refuses to come over and take a buyout, then they essentially wasted the pick on nothing?

Don't Pick Holiday!
I’m Sacramentan & UCLA alum and I really hope the Kings don’t pick Holiday. He’s a good kid but was a big disappointment this year in College. He has a lot of skill but never took charge and gave us bruin fans any reason to get excited, especially down the stretch.
He is years from reaching his potential. If it’s all the same, get a scorer with some energy and a burning will to win. Get Curry.
