its REALLY hard for me to believe any other team will draft him

especially if no one else has even gotten a workout. and only OKC got to talk to him right?

It would kinda be like Hasheem Thabeet being available @ #4. I doubt we draft a guy we havent even talked to.

I can't find the link

But wasn’t there a story that Thabeet was interviewing/working out for the Kings?

With the 4th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Rickeke Flynenningday, point guard from Europe, Memphis, Syracuse, UCLA and Parts Unknown.

Doesn't look like it

It sounded like they wanted to set something up last week, but Thabeet hasn’t worked out with anyone (canceled with Memphis) and the prospects are supposed to report to New York tomorrow evening.

anyone one else think this guy is going to be a bust? he CANT score unless hes wide open under the basket for a dunk. He has no conditioning or stamina. Only thing he does well is block shots. And if you want a guy to block a few shots, go sign Verajo or Birdman. Im glad the Kings havent even thought about the guy

Thabeet is better than that.

He’s got room to develop, just like any other young player in the draft. He’ll be better than Deke, IMO. That’s not a bad player to have on the roster. Having said that…

…RUBIIIOOOO!

Or Evans or Flynn or Curry.

Bust?

Determines what the team wants to do with Thabeet. If you just ask him to play defense it would work out well. Pair with a great offensive guard who carry the other end of the court and it’s a great combination along the lines of Iverson/Mutombo.

Only rule with Thabeet

is that you have to have 4 shooters on the floor with him because his man will always double and clog the lane.

very different players

Thabeet’s height and length are actually proportional to the rest of his body and he’d push bradley off the block w/ ease (pushing around a guy anchored to the ground like blair is actually quite hard). Shot blocking from a starting big is something that has been sorely lacking on the kings for quite some time. Keon Clark is probably the last good shot blocker we had and that was about 7 years ago…off the bench.

I think even I could hit Hasheem Thabeet for an alley oop with no one guarding him.

by furious.d on Jun 22, 2009 3:59 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I dunno

That Philly team with AI had practically no offensive talent. Lebron is also currently surrounded with a bunch of players with the offensive capabilities of Thabeet.

by bignerd on Jun 22, 2009 4:04 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

he won't be a bust...I wouldn't mind having him if we didn't need a PG so bad

He’s only been playing basketball for a few years and big men are always the slowest to develop. With the right big man coach in the pros (like howard has in ewing, or bynum has with kareem) if he develops a semi consistent jump shots and some decent post moves he’ll be one of the better bigs in the league. The kings probably don’t have the time to wait for a guy like him to develop though.

You can’t teach size and he’s not a bad athlete either…especially for a guy at 7’3". A center like thabeet will alter a lot of shots just from his sheer presence. Whatever team has this guy in 3-4 years will one of the better centers in the league.

by ucla06 on Jun 22, 2009 4:25 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

And I will add (even though I’d be happy to see the Kings get either guy) that Rubio is also a project.

by furious.d on Jun 22, 2009 4:43 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, if the Kings landed Rubio @4 and Thabeet was still sitting around at 5?

I would pry that pick away from Washington if they are still considering dealing it. There are just no back up big men hiding around #23 or #31 and how many swing guys and point guards can you have on a roster.

Washington has other things they can do with the pick

The idea that they will give it away for luxury tax relief is probably pretty erroneous. Especially more so if the economy picks up. Also, I might add, it’s not like Abe Pollin doesn’t have a shitton of money to begin with, or that a healthy Bullets team would pack the Verizon Center anyway.

In otherwords, I think Pollin would be willing to pay tax for this team in this circumstance. So, they will so they don’t lose talent they don’t have to lose.

I agree with his agent-

How exactly do you show off shot blocking skills in a private workout? Thabeet is a very respectful young man who’s character isn’t in question. If teams want to know what he does, they should watch tape. I would have recommended that he show up and meet teams but a workout would be pretty useless IMO. For now, he is working diligently on his strength and endurance so he can be NBA ready. The reports of him working out with a Navy Seal, climbing hills and shooting jumpers is pretty encouraging.

Chad has to cover all draft scenarios. I think Ford has at least two more mock drafts to publish, maybe a 3rd and 4th. Is he having his showdown with Simmons this year? I can’t wait to see them both make fools of themselves again discussing the Kings pick. It’s not like we have the #10 or #12 pick this year were they can just blow through it.

I think that's a good call

There’s no reason the Kings would tip their hand. If they like him, they don’t want other people to know. If they don’t like him, you don’t want other people to know you’re leaning towards someone else.

Things could become very quiet for the next three days. Or we could continue to hear a lot of chatter without a whole lot of substance.

I think mum will be the word.

No way they let the video out until after Thursday. You have to love the chess match being played. The open access has really drawn in the fan base so I guess the Kings have already won in a round about way and tie to this the fact that even the most robust fans among us have bought in to Evans, Rubio, or Flynn all being just fine is a spin campaign never quite seen before out of an NBA franchise. Bravo Kings.

I'd rather hear chatter.

At this point, spreading disinformation would be helpful, and the only way to do that is via chatter.

If we suddenly “go dark,” well, then you can pretty much figure out that the Kings liked what they saw.

It's hard to spread misinformation about a guy practically everybody has heard of by the time he was 18

Let alone the fact that he’s been playing professionally for so long to boot. It won’t work, and it might tip the Kings hand as well. Saying nothing is the best bet until Thursday. After the draft, whether it’s Rubio or Flynn, we’ll see which works. But, in my experience, all talking does is expose what you think and don’t at some point.

The Kings have already shown they really like Rubio. They just aren’t willing to cater to the Grizz or Thunder to make a deal. That’s their problem. It’s just really that simple at this point.

The Kings cannot let Rubio’s workout measurements go public. They are the only team with this intel and it’s something Memphis and OKC are probably dying to know. As of right now the Kings are the only team with a full gauge on Rubio’s speed and how it will translate to the NBA.

I’m guessing all chatter will cease to exist from the organization. Saying nothing provides no indication to where they are at.

by bignerd on Jun 22, 2009 3:54 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Again

None of this shit matters. It’s not like Memphis doesn’t have an idea. Whatever you people think about Chris Wallace, he does have an idea that Rubio has long arms. He can guestimate they’re so & so long anyway. I don’t think the Grizz care to be quite honest.

OKC has his wing span and height based on the weekend meetings. It’s always better to know than guestimate. No one would have guestimated Harden’s work out numbers.

Is keeping his numbers a secret imperative? No, but in a game of flinch every bit of doubt from the opponent helps.

Ever since that Amick interview with Rubio in the hotel, Voisin has been enamored (to say the least) with his height. I know its stupid, but is anyone else sick of hearing her mention the fact that Rubio is 6’ 5"?

From the latest SacBee blog post:

Gee, really Ailene? Is he 6’ 5"? I had no idea.. It’s not like you mention that every freaking time you mention Rubio.

Maybe those big eye of hers are like a fish eye lens for a camera- everything is totally distorted in Ailene world.

I don't think it's that big of a deal

She said size and physique reminded her or LBJ. The whole prodigy thing is a bit funny. He is something of that already, and I don’t think a Kings official has to confirm it.

Rubio

If he doesn’t want to go to Memphis, why would he want to go to Sacramento?

Because...

nevermind. If you don’t know already, I’m not gonna waste my time. Read through the past couple weeks’ worth of posts and you’ll figure it out.

simple: look at the rosters between memphis and sactown

memphis young guards: conley, mayo.

kings: martin.

if he comes to the kings, he’ll play early and hopefully develop.

also, sacramento is a great place. why wouldn’t he want to come toe th land of cowbells and governent bureaucracy? :)

can i unrec this for ignorance?

Sacramento = 16th largest media market in the USA.

Memphis = 48th.

Sacto = chance to start, develop with team

Memphis = competing for minutes with Conley, and basically just being drafted as a “moveable asset”

Sacto = loyal fan base that should fill the arena next season, great venue for foreign players/foreign players LOVED playing here

Memphis = 5k fans a night in a college town where nobody cares about the team, cheap owners, horrible exposure for foreign players/foreign players HATED playing there

Sacramento has had national exposure, so he probably watched the Kings a little as a kid.

Memphis? Doubt it.

Actually

he probably did see plenty of Grizz games since Pau was there. And if you’ve watched any of Memphis’ games you wouldn’t wanna play there either. And that was during their good years
