In Which Jerry Reynolds, Kings Director of Player Personnel, Calls Chad Ford a 'Tool'
This morning the Rise Guys interviewed Jerry Reynolds, who we know mainly as the greatest coach in Sacramento history and the color analyst on Comcast SportsNet broadcasts. KHTK made the audio available for us, and you'll find it after the jump.
You will note most readily that Reynolds, who happens to be the director of player personnel for the Kings, calls ESPN.com draft expert Chad Ford a "tool."

Wow
‘’ tool for agents ’’
well we can say that but Jerry is making it official , right ?
Said Van Gundy about the situation: "(Spanoulis) says, 'I was [Tracy] McGrady back home.' Great. McGrady is McGrady here," ..
Say what you want
Jerry still gets to the heart of an issue when he speaks.
Rocks are free, and slingshots easily stolen.
Jerry in this setting
Away from the television lights, is refreshingly honest about the team. He drops the “hick from French Lick” thing for the most part and opens up pretty good.
With the 4th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Rickeke Flynenningday, point guard from Europe, Memphis, Syracuse, UCLA and Parts Unknown.
Jerry Reynolds says something telling at the end of the interview, how Geoff Petrie will likely pick the best or second best player in the draft, which will be known by the 1st of December. In other words, the guy they draft will be ready come training camp. This to me rules out Ricky Rubio, because Ricky Rubio will not maximize his talent and realize his potential that quickly. I also draw the conclusion he is not a fan of Thabeet. Not so much in words but in tone.
I can tell he is high on Stephen Curry, making the point Oscar Robertson and Jerry West were not PGs either as college players, and that making the conversion is possible if the skills are there.
I think you can draw reasonable conclusion from this interview, the newest King will be Tyreke Evans or Stephen Curry. I think they like James Harden too, but doubt he’ll slip.
Thanks Ziller for posting .
That was the read I got as well.
I also feel JR is smart enough not to tip the Kings’ hand so obviously just days before the draft, so it could easily be more of a smoke screen (or simply his opinion and not necessarily similar to Petrie’s).
Funny how everyone can read their own spin on what he says
I was intrigued by the part where he says there are three or four good players would could and one really good one. I was reading that as Rubio.
"Shut up and Coach!"

Jerry was as Jerry is,
entertaining and insightful. I don’t think he let anything out of the envelope. The only thing he offered is that he personally has settled on who he thinks will be the best pick. I could see how someone could think he meant Curry, given the context. But, really, I think he was exactly as sly as he is.
Lower their expectations and rise to met them
I thought he liked Curry and Thabeet
for different reasons of course. Now that 1st of Dec comment makes me believe like blob that it almost always means an offensive guy, Curry or Flynn? (the fact he didn’t even mention him makes me suspicious)
So imitate the action of the tiger!.

I think Jerry is setting up the fanbase for the possibility that the team really prefers Jonny Flynn period
Regardless of what happens with Rubio.

No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
His talk of Ainge, West, and Robertson
makes me think he likes Evans the most but i dont think Reynolds is the one Petrie listens to most. So my question is, would it even really matter if he bluntly said Evans is my guy or (insert desired prospect’s name) will be the best player from this draft. I think it’d be intrinsically intriguing but not at all insightful to our pick.
Reynolds calling Ford a tool, that was just stating the obvious. Nothing to read into there.

Everyone interprets this in their own way
We don’t know. No one knows. I’m not even trying to guess anymore. Ohh where art thou Thursday?
It's Rubio or Flynn
That’s all I know.

I think Rubio might be out of the equation.
I think its Evans or Flynn. Would be happy with all 3.
Father of the "Natt this!" movement.
Chad ford is a tool. An unreliable one.
I almost didn’t front page the Spurs trade on Silver Screen and Roll trade because I first read it on ESPN. I had to check SI.com and Yahoo, before I decided to.
The next thing Chad Ford actually breaks himself and gets right might his first.
In breaking news -
“Chad Ford breaks himself and gets right.”
