That's OK, I think....
All this jockeying by other teams is fine. I think everyone falls over each to try to win the horserace and St Geoff will calmly stand back and take his guys where/when he can.

chalmers...
you mean like how we waited around and waited around and could have moved last year to pick up Chalmers as he dropped in the draft last year, only to find him logging solid minutes for Miami last year? The point of this story is that Portland wants our “guy” and made the move to get him in front of us.

Umm -
At what point did Miami offer us their pick for our picks and we refused?

Not sure, but...
I think that LTLFTC meant was that we could’ve packaged our picks to someone else and moved up to take Chalmers. If that was sarcasm, section, I apologize. Spending the last 2 years in Georgia may have helped me achieve a lower consciousness.

That's my point
This is like saying that we waited and waited when we could have packaged our picks and traded for LeBron James. Our 2nd round picks had little to no value, no matter how much we would like to think otherwise.

All depends on your perspective, I guess. You could interpret the lack of action as being calm or as being passive. I believe the latter.

JT or Bayless?

At least he has a position. Zing.

Serisouly
Thats pretty messed up. Fair, but still messed up.
Whether or not the kings were going to take Casspi, I don’t believe that KP knew for sure. I don’t think Petrie calls to tell him who he’s drafting.

No one can figure out who the Kings are taking at 4
but Portland knows who we are taking at 23?

Exactly
I would go so far as to say that Petrie has never picked the guy that common wisdom had us taking. If KP knows who we’re targeting, it’s because he’s intercepting emails.

and we’ll take Sam Young… which works out great for my draft picks

They must be worried we're going to take either the PG or SF they want
Bastards.

Pretty sure the Kings won't take 2 PGs in this draft
Blazers already have 3 SFs under the age of 25 on the roster. I doubt they will draft a SF. I’m not so sure the Blazers will even draft at #22.

Based on previous drafts, I don’t expect this minor deal to be the end, more like the beginning.

They still lack a long term solution at SF though
And they have about a thousand young players at every position at this point. Who knows what they’re going to do.
by nbrans on Jun 24, 2009 2:39 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
The SF position is still evolving
Webster missed the entire season last year. Batum stepped in as a rookie admirably. Outlaw is an excellent scorer off the bench. The Blazers need to trade a SF instead of drafting another prospect.

Chad Ford, so take it with a heap of salt:
Why would the Blazers move up two spots in the draft? The word around the league was the Kings had zeroed in on Omri Casspi with the 23rd pick. Casspi could be a good pick for the Blazers to either keep or bring over this year to provide more toughness in the frontcourt.

I don't get why they'd want a combo forward like Casspi
they kinda have one in Outlaw, and they have Nicolas Batum at the 3, who I still believe in to be pretty good.

Rudy Fernandez? Maybe they’re not playing him there, but I don’t see why they couldn’t.

He's awful small for the position
And has enough trouble guarding his natural position of SG, to have him up against SFs. It would end up forcing Roy to guard SFs.
I’d rather have Rudy guard the PG, Roy the SG, and a good defender at the SF spot, depending on the lineup. I’d still would wanna start a true-er PG than Rudy.

Actually, we could very well take 2 PGs
especially if we take a big PG like Evans, or even Rubio, at 4, because whoever we take later, like a Mills, could play 1 off the bench and have Evans/Rubio slide over to 2.

Why does Dallas do this deal?
They lose a couple of spots this year to get one of the very last picks this year and next? I really don’t get it. Pritchard must be some kind of warlock, or he “sweetens” every deal with his famous homemade peach cobbler or something. I feel like other teams are always so willing to give him what he wants, and there must be something else going on behind the scenes.
by AnotherStupidSN on Jun 24, 2009 2:40 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
I was going to write something similar. Two 2nd Round picks is a bucket of nothing. Dallas is only dropping from #22 to #24 but it’s almost a voluntary move.
by bignerd on Jun 24, 2009 2:46 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Exactly
I got a similar feeling this season when we made the Sam Cassel deal, though I don’t really remember of all the financial details. I just remember feeling like Boston was giving us money for some reason that I didn’t understand, and even if I just took it on faith that it made sense for them I didn’t know why they chose us to deal with and why it was a deal that happened when it did.
I don’t know, sometimes I feel like GMs do these minor deals to sort of earn “brownie points” for bigger deals down the road.

BFD....
Other than Blake Griffin, there is nobody in this draft that is a must have for the Kings. Petrie and his staff have rankings of guys they think will be on the board at 4, 23, 31. If there top guy is not there, they improvise. They are not going to get desperate and trade current proven players to move up in the draft. FYI-Casspi, is not even going to play in the NBA next year. He is going to stay in Europe for at least one more year. Also, they are not selling the 23 or 31 pick, worthless in this draft. Odds are better that you find a nice role player with these picks that might make your squad than to sell.

With the 22nd pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, the Portland Trailblazers: sell their pick!

Remember
Talk early on in the ‘weak’ draft was that there would be little movement other than teams unloading to save money. Quite a bit of movement so far, with more obviously coming. Hopefully Petrie gets in the mix soon!

This is a good story
because of the “Pritch” factor, but it’s not like someone created four new picks prior to our pick. We were picking #23, and we’re still picking #23. No biggie.

Last year he created 3 second round picks out of Ömer Asik
Our own second rounder and one of those (the Chicago 2010 pick) are now in that deal again.

ESPN Insider Rumor
Chris Broussard:
POSTED: June 24 — 5:53 p.m. ET
• I’m told OKC will take Hasheem Thabeet at No. 3 if he’s there, though there are concerns that he’ll struggle on a team for which he’s the No. 1 post option. I’m also told that if Thabeet’s not there, the Thunder will take James Harden. GM Sam Presti loves Ricky Rubio, but he knows Russell Westbrook will be angered to the point of wanting out if OKC drafts another PG.
With the 4th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Rickeke Flynenningday, point guard from Europe, Memphis, Syracuse, UCLA and Parts Unknown.

I have no clue what Presti is thinking but I have watched a few clips of Russell Westbrook disgusted with the mention of Ricky Rubio.

Good find Otis.
I’ve read in a couple of spots that Thabeet and Harden are going two and three- maybe not in that order. The Kings should have the chance to take Rubio or trade down to 5 or 8 if they don’t want him to aquire more assets.

Not really a Diva...
I can understand where Westbrook is coming from. Lottery pick that worked hard his rookie season to shut up the haters who said he couldn’t be a PG. Then next lottery you draft a PG? I would be a little frustrated, asking myself, “Don’t I deserve the PG position?”
Wonder what Derrick Rose would say if Chicago drafted a PG in the first round?

I saw this on the blazer's board....kinda interesting
According to WNDE 1260 in Indianapolis the Pacers are targetting Sam Young in the draft and a rumored deal to trade down is #13 for #23 + #31. The Pacers are apparently looking to stash #31 overseas and get a rotation ready player from this draft but feel 13 is too high for Young.
