I like this move a lot
Ball movement ... is like jogging for most people: They do it occasionally, and it makes them happy. Then they go back to not doing it. - Henry Abbott

I like that. Do that in a heartbeat we only move down 7 spots and we pick up Sergio Rodriguez. I hope we make that trade it’s a great one actually for the Kings.

OK...
I don’t know very much about him, but that is fine with me. Two Spanish point guards on one team? Nice.
Sergio
If he could learn to shoot, he would actually be a really good pg.
yeah - some kind of shot would be nice
This is a team without a PG who’s willing to give one up for not much
They clearly are not high on him
So imitate the action of the tiger!.

Eh they needed to clear the depth chart for Jerryd Bayless
as Sergio was able to hold on to backup PG last year.
There now I've met the 75 word count. -pookeyguru
This comment makes perfect sense.

I am, was and will be until he is an utter failure for you.. ... but I have high hopes for him...
he can’t shoot for poo, and has no arch on his shots, but he does try.
he sees the court with nashish vision, and maybe… just maybe dribbles a little too high and too long….
but he was a humming bird in a bird cage in portland… seriously, nate loves half court basketball, sergio is a runner and disher… he can’t absorb contact very well if he penetrates but will go into the paint with regularity, just very rarely takes his own shots in there.
he’s a solid C player and you got him on the cheap… I wish him well.

He’s a pretty good PG and is stuck behind the glut of guards they have on their team. To only move down 7 spots and pick up him that’s a good deal.

trade 7 spots back plus we get a young pass first point guard who happens to be 6’3? yes!
LOve the Deal
Sergio for 7 spots in the second round? Yes please.

I can live with that
cant hurt anything to at least get a pure point coming in no matter what happens at #4
Finding positives in a 65 loss season since 2009
How much better is he than beno?
I don’t see it as much of an improvement, honestly.
"It would be my honor to be your new stepfather."
I guess the question is
Is Sergio plus the #38 pick better than just the #31?
But it might be much ado about nothing – I do like the idea of seeing Sergio in a Kings uniform.
With the 4th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Rickeke Flynenningday, point guard from Europe, Memphis, Syracuse, UCLA and Parts Unknown.
Agree. Especially if we can somehow unload beno

Perhaps,
but he only cost you seven slots in the 2nd round. and he costs $1.6 million this year.
SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!
Sergio is signifigantly better than Beno.
Sergio has trouble with his shot, but part of that is getting very few minutes at a time and not getting rythym. But as a passer and dribbler, he’s like a young Steve Nash. He’s VERY quick and has excellent vision. For Portland this is about capspace.

Wow
I’ve always been a fan of Sergio since he announced for the draft a while back. He CAN shoot the ball, it’s just he’s been playing behind Brandon Roy and everyone else.
Interesting
This guy (Irh86) just joined your blog in order to make this single comment. Some people just love spreading joy. I hope it was rewarding for him.
On the other hand, I just joined the blog in order to keep up with news about Sergio now that he’s a King. I didn’t really want to get into Sergio wars over here just as they’re perhaps ending on Blazers Edge. So here, for the first time on this blog, and probably the last time, is my own slightly more nuanced take on Sergio.
I’m no basketball expert — just a fan who likes exciting basketball. IMO, Sergio is a very talented young player. He sees the court extremely well, has great imagination, is an excellent ball-handler, is unselfish almost to a fault, and has an impeccable ability to find open teammates just when they can do something with the ball. He runs the fast break extremely well. For a guard without great athleticism, he is a surprisingly good rebounder — maybe he has a nose for the ball. He works very hard, and contrary to what some ignorant people will tell you, gets along just fine with teammates and coaches.
There are definitely aspects of his game that need improvement, as well. His shooting has been inconsistent, although it was noticeably improved last season following his extensive work with the Blazers shooting coach. His jumper now has a bit more arc on it and is generally not far off even if it misses. He has difficulty finishing at the basket, but has lately developed a nice teardrop shot that is effective when facing a shot-blocker. Sergio’s defense has been criticized over the past few seasons, although he is showing some improvement there. He can be effective gambling a bit and coming up with steals, but he can get burned by speedy point guards, indicating perhaps a problem with his lateral movement.
I have a hunch that if he gets a reasonable amount of regular playing time he will improve in most of the areas mentioned above. Anyhow, it won’t be too long before you see some amazing things happen on your court with Sergio playing. I know he Blazers are a good team and have some exciting players, but I’m still going to miss seeing Sergio. I wish him good luck on his new team.
"Just kidding"
Hey guys
I was hoping we could get more for him, but it is what it is.
He’s good but he needs some freedom which he gets none here playing for Nate. It will be interesting to see how he plays on a team that is developing and if he makes some mistakes he can play through it.
I count this as a bit of a loss for PDX, but the 31 is pretty valuable as it is high quality, low $$ and if we use this to trade to someone else, but we will see.
Good take guys, treat him well.
Collegiate stats:
NCAA Arizona:
Jerryd Bayless: 19.7pts, 4.0 asts, 3to
NAIA Wisconsin-Stevens Point
Terry Porter: 19.7pts, 4.3 asts, 2.33to
Sergio will foul out Oden next year.
You guys will like him. He fits the Kings playing style.

Will be cool
If we got him another Spaniard pg to chat with…
Anyone know hoe much time a team gets per pick in the first round?
Clearly
This is a salary dump for Portland and a hell of a trade for the Kings. Sergio is a nice backup point guard… nice pick up.
BOOK IT!
I'm wondering if he isn't being rooled to NY as part of a 4-8 swap.
The Knicks have been rumored to be trading for him for some time. Drafting a point at #4, trading for Rodriguez and having Udrih doesn’t make sense. Maybe we trade 4 for 8 and the Knicks have to swallow the Udrih contract or maybe the Knicks want him as part of a swap.
- Give me Brown or Gibson.

Woot!
Now at least I’m guaranteed to not be totally disappointed today.

Latest from DX
Rubio will be @ #4! Lets pick him!
Per DX:
It looks like we need to move Harden into that 3 slot. That’s the word here in the Green Room at least. It’s really interesting to look around the tables and see who knows where they are going and who doesn’t.
For Rubio?
Are the Kings getting a Spanish player to make Rubio feel more welcome?
Kings rule! (They are royalty - right?)
Great start to the draft
I think they take Evans and play him at the one, two and three depending on the situation.

Kinda strange
You’ve gotta think there’s at least some competitive rivalry between Rodriguez and Rubio. Obviously I love the trade regardless.
there is .... rubio took sergios spot on the spanish national team... some say it was the lull cat that took his spot but if I remember right it was rubio that was put on the team that kicked sergio off.
The Faith don't panic, the faith freaks out, burns out farms, and torchs small villages in the name of The Faith.
That's what I was thinking
Even if that wasn’t the case, it’s hard to imagine an international player appreciating losing minutes to a rookie who’s four years younger.
Ricky was a rising star
Sergio barely played and looked like he had lost his swagger (actually stolen by McMillan)
Nobody expects a Spanish Acquisition!
Sergio is a solid backup PG, nice pickup for the Kings
He could be a great fit as Ricky’s backup, with the added benefit of helping Ricky adapt if the Kings get him.
Don't underrate Sergio
We’re getting a highly touted PG with a few years of NBA seasoning, I wouldn’t be surprised if he started from day 1 with whomever we get (hopefully Rubio). He reminds me of Calderon, who showed flashes, but never really excelled until he got a chance.
Bottom Line: Sergio is an instant upgrade over Beno, let alone whoever we get.
Don't get carried away.
Sergio shot a very low percentage all of his career (sub 40%), he needs to shoot the ball with better accuracy if he wants to be a starting PG in the NBA.
As a Blazer fan, my feeling is that Sergio would be among the worst (but not the worst) starting PG in the NBA...
… but can be a very solid backup, and at the price the Kings paid is a nice acquisition.
some guys need minutes to thrive
hard to do well when you are as under the gun as the guys vying for legit minutes in Portland’s rotation.
yeah, that's true
Its not out of the question that he could become a legitimate NBA starter, I just personally don’t think he will. We already know he can be a pretty good backup though, and if the Kings get Ricky, that’s all they need.
His %'s have usually started pretty good and gone down during the season
The word is that it’s about confidence, something Nate McMillan never gave him, It’s not the same when your game is high risk high reward but your coach will bench you if you make one mistake
Nobody expects a Spanish Acquisition!
This is a very interesting trade, the Kings won’t be waiting around at the end of the first round to pick up a backup point.
Sergio is a pure point, I was hoping the Kings could get him last season when his agent was making noise about wanting out of Portland. Can the Kings afford to have two pure pgs with shaky jumpers?
I think Sergio is a good change of pace playing behind Evans.
yeeeee!!!!
were trading up to get blake griffin
notice hes wearing purple and black
