Heybelt would be great at 38

Technicality
The trade couldn’t be official after the Noon Eastern deadline for trading picks, so it will become official after PDX picks #38 for Sacramento.

A crop of just the draft board as Evans shook Stern's hand
It was classy. And it was titled “NBA Draft 2009 – Now In Thread Form!”
Never forget: I am a complete idiot
so is the 31st a done deal or what?
ESPN reporting nothing

Party Time, Excellent!!!!

Haha. Brockman is NICE!!!
The kid has heart. He’s like a short Kevin Love. He can rebound and will punch you in the face. Jay doesn’t know…he doesn’t watch west coast b-ball. Brockman
Petrie can draft talent in the first round
…but seriously? His second rounders have been pure crap
Brockman?
You’re talking about Brockman?

For all the haters
have you not learned anything at all the last 10 years? There’s a reason why Petrie is a GM and we’re all just “bloggers.” Good lord.
If you're not first ... you're last.
Counter-point
Have you not learned anything at all the last 50+ years? There’s a reason why guys get drafted in the 1st Round and others just fall into the “2nd Round.” Good lord.
Seriously though, Petrie hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire with his 2nd Round picks. Don’t expect too much.
Defense and rebounding
GP went right at our weaknesses

I disagree
We’ll see when next season is over. Brockman is nice and has tons of heart. Jay is very east coast biased.
You are going to love me as your pick, Sacramento

my apologies for using a Simpson’s pic and not being Section214

From ESPN's Draft Info:
Draft Projection: Second round to undrafted
Positives:
# Tough, physical player
# Tenacious rebounder
# Excellent motor
# Blue collar worker who never takes off a possession
# Good finisher around the basket
Negatives:
# Undersized for his position
# Lacks great athleticism
# Not a polished perimeter scorer
# Poor free throw shooter
Summary: Apr 14 Update: Brockman is known as a tough warrior in the paint, but he isn’t considered a top prospect because of his lack of athleticism and tendency to play below the rim. However, at Portsmouth, he came out aggressive, grabbing 21 rebounds and scoring 24 points in the first game. A few scouts were buzzing about what appeared to be more explosive athletic ability than expected from Brockman. Some scouts call him a poor man’s Tyler Hansbrough. I’m not sure how far that gets him in the draft, but it could land him somewhere in the second round.
Jan 2 Update: Brockman is sort of a so-so Tyler Hansbrough clone. Considering the NBA scouts aren’t convinced that Hansbrough is a lottery pick, you can understand why they have Brockman pegged as a second-rounder at best.
With the 4th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Rickeke Flynenningday, point guard from Europe, Memphis, Syracuse, UCLA and Parts Unknown.
AWFUL
God damn it Petrie, why do you hate the 2nd round? So many good guys left, like Derrick Brown, the PF from Xavier…..DAMN
Brockman doesn’t help us one bit. He is not an NBA quality athlete, and it isn’t because he is white. He just isn’t. Decent rebounder, but he isn’t defending crap.
Can't believe we were that close to getting
Blair with the 38th pick … that hurts.
Pitt was a tough ass team.
Have to agree
Brockman was a BAD pick. 2-3 is good but still only 67%. I would have preferred Calathes
Kings rule! (They are royalty - right?)
Me too, seriously
He could have replaced Beno at bargain price
He did - Rodriguez

Was Brockman on your rankings sheet?
With the 4th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Tyreke Evans, STUD out of Memphis.
People remember, at least we got Sergio Rodriguez AND Brockman

I think he'll be in training camp
and that’s about it.
I mean…. this guy sucks. He really does suck, by NBA standards. I understand he could play in college and everything but his career stats will be 0pts 0reb. Swing and a miss.

Honestly
I’m not getting too worked up about the #38 pick in the draft.
With the 4th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Tyreke Evans, STUD out of Memphis.
About 99% of the other picks are whiffs as well

In the 2nd round, I mean

Yeah.
I agree it’s not worth getting worked up over. Hopefully his rebounding will translate, and at the very least he’ll bring it in practice.
nice point
He might be worth it just to beat the crap out of JT, Spence, Donte, etc. in practice. Give those guys a dose of what really-wanting-the-ball looks like.
Life is every mammal's journey from very very wet to very very dry.
I agree
I just think that Calathes was the only one left that had a chance to be a very SOLID backup in the NBA.
Kings rule! (They are royalty - right?)
Michael Smith, Lawrence Funderburke, Anthony Johnson, Tyus Edney...
SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!
I'll check
I don’t think that we’ve had a boat load of 2nd round picks, but I’ll look. As I mentioned in another thread, Mike Taylor was the only player of really any note to be drafted after Singletary and Ewing last year, so I’m not sure that those picks could be improved upon. And that’s probably the more telling stat – how many quality guys has GP let slip by in the 2nd round?
SACTOWN ROYALTY - Try our thick creamy shakes!
OK - from this decade
No 2nd round picks in 03, 05, 06, 07.
Jabari Smith (45) in 00 – no one of note drafted after him.
Maurice Jeffers (55) in 01 – no one of note drafted after him.
Corsley Edwards (58) in 02 – no one of note drafted after him.
Ricky Minard (47) in 04 – no one of note drafted after him.
Singletary(42)/Ewing(43) last year – Mike Taylor drafted by Clippers at #55.

Amen to that.
Take a flyer at a position of need.
At USC we're not snobs, we're just better than you.
OK, I'm talking myself into Kent Brockman
Looking at his info vs Brown, the Brock-man is a better rebounder, and it lists a knock on Brown as being “passive”, the opposite of Brockman. Shrug.
Yahoo! analysis...
“Brockman was a bit of mystery because he didn’t really work out for teams, leading some to speculate he had received some sort of guarantee — even with second-round money. He’ll have a legit chance to make the Kings’ roster. Grinder and the Kings could use some grit.”
Guess Hawes got on Petrie’s case and wanted someone to debate politics with
Petrie
saw Brown, Calathes and Mills in Sacramento. Not sure if he saw Brockman there but he obviously wasn’t impressed enough with the others…

Kent Brockman
If he doesn’t make it as a basketball player, he could certainly get a job as an anchorman.
With the 4th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Tyreke Evans, STUD out of Memphis.
Is he made of real bits of panther?
I’m getting pretty excited at this point.

I’m going to call it a night. I’m going to let all of this sink in. I’m going to re-read my “Here’s To You, Jason Thompson” post from last year’s draft day. I’ll write a reaction piece tomorrow night.

The more I think about the Evans pick, the more pissed I get
I went to Canis Hoopus to check out there draft thread. They had split it up into different parts like we did here. But the combined number of comments for all their draft threads were barely more than this thread alone. And they got our guy? This fuckin sucks

Soooo, Kings are going to be last in the Pacific again.....
Espeically if they pull of that Stoudamire trade. Curry + Stoudamire + B. Davis. If they stay healthy, we aint going to catch em….
During the Draft Coverage...
ESPN report a trade rumor of A. Stoudamire being traded to Golden State for 3 players.
Actually....
Kings might be able to catch Phoenix if they don’t have Shaq or Stoudamire……
dalt had Brockman rated as a 78.5
From dalt rankings: 77-82: Career Reserve/6th Man potential – These are the energy guys of the NBA. These players almost never become solid starters in the NBA. About half scoring in this rank will be out of the league in 3 years while the other half will be able to find a team to stick with and have a long career bringing some needed energy off the bench. Bobby Jackson (81.5), Kenny Thomas (81.5), Trevor Ariza (81), Daniel Gibson (79.5) and Eddie House (79.5) are among the players to score in this group.
You can love this draft or hate it but the one thing all the picks have in common is they are ALL tough. You guys whining about how bad the Kings are going to be, get over yourselves. We drafted a player with at least all star potential, got a pure pg from Portland and picked up 2 guys who bring a lot of toughness and energy to a team that had very little of either last season. Shut the natt up at least until we make summer league and we see what some of these guys can do!

Put Simply
You guys whining about how bad the Kings are going to be, get over yourselves.
The Kings were probably going to be terrible no matter who they drafted.
That’s what a rebuild is . . . have some patience people.
Well, I am glad Petrie didn't do what I was wanting...
I was wanting them to hopefully trade down to #8, thinking that at least Flynn would slide there. Well, that would explain why I am up posting blogs instead of being the King’s GM.
Ok, I lied
I stayed awake and wrote my reaction tonight. Putting it up now.
