Kings Pick Jon Brockman in the Second Round

Brockman_medium
The Kings took Washington forward Jon Brockman with the No. 38, acquired in the Sergio Rodriguez deal. DeJuan Blair -- who had thought to be lottery pick in recent weeks -- went one pick earlier to San Antonio. Brockman's selection over Patrick Mills, Chase Budinger and Derrick Brown proves that Spencer Hawes, not Geoff Petrie, is in control of the franchise's basketball operations.

The Kings currently have no other picks.

This is a long standing team tradition

It goes all the way back to Joe Kline. We are required by league rules to draft a slow footed white guy on odd numbered years. Sort of.

Who knows....

Maybe he is that Tyler Hansborogh type the Kings were looking for. I think Patti Mills will haunt the Kings from Portland……..

So who the fuck is responsible for Evans? Was it Beno? Tell me it was Beno so I can kick his ass!

I doubt be on the roster

Having 5 players with less than 2 years experience just doesnt seem likely since 2nd rounders barely suit up for the Kings

So then the question becomes:

Why do we waste those picks then? Other teams continue to find talent late and we close up shop after the first round? I don’t buy it. He better contribute after taking him over guy like: Calathes, Mills, Budinger, Lyons, etc…

A few do

Most don’t.

With the 4th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Tyreke Evans, STUD out of Memphis.

If that's the idea

Then just SELL it.

They got cash from PDX for moving down, they could have double-dipped and sold it to another team for more cash.

And taller than our small forwards

and an NBA player
and had a body fat percentage below 20%
and had some hair on his head
and didn’t wear a cut off t-shirt under his jersey. ever.

Pollard was a lot of things that Brockman isn’t.

only guy i'm happy with is

casspi. is the “in geoff we trust” contingency happy with this draft? i was part of that contingency and i’m not exactly thrilled….

white version of dejuan blair

with good knees
any body know what this guys vertical and wingspan is???

by 31_FLAVAS on Jun 25, 2009 8:33 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

He didn't go to the pre-draft combine

and he apparently didn’t work out privately with any teams for them to measure and test him. So we’ll never know.

by Kevin Conroy on Jun 25, 2009 8:58 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

saw brockman in person go against klove last year...

and size wise they are pretty comparable but his wingspan might be a little shorter. I don’t know if Brockman had official measurements taken but he can’t be more than 1/2 inch shorter than kevin love (love’s shoes bring him from 6’7.5" to 6’9.5").

I thought love would be too undersized for the NBA but his rebounding rate really surprised me. Brockman doesn’t have a great offensive game and most of his points are off putbacks but he easily pushed around a guy like klove and was a much better rebounder in college than Love.

If he makes the roster will be by far the strongest player on our team (his arms are huge and ripped esp for a white guy. He doesn’t leap out of the gym but he knows how to use his body like Love and has a rodman type knack for the ball. If he can develop some more of an offensive game he’ll stick on the kings. Leading the pac 10 three straight years in rebounding is no joke.

Not saying I like this over a Chase Budinger or if we were able to get Blair but he’s an NBA player and not a waste of a pick like Ewing was last year.

by ucla06 on Jun 25, 2009 8:37 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Good

leading the pac 10 in rebounds 3 years in a row intriuges me very much… could be very solid rotational big man

by 31_FLAVAS on Jun 25, 2009 8:39 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

basically Brockman is a space eater...

you’ll be amazed how strong this guy is person…if the only thing he does is put jason thompson and spencer hawes on his workout regimen then this is a solid pick.

Damn

You are really worked up over the #38 pick in the draft. Anything else? Does the guy have b.o.? Does he have an ugly girlfriend? I’d really like to know…

Just for the record...

The guy dated the prettiest cheerleader at UW… for over a year. Yeah. The cheerleader that has her face and body painted on a poster over the entrance to the home side of the stands at Husky stadium.

Chase Budinger is a waste

yea, he can shoot. But he sure can’t stop anybody from going around him and dunking.

by Fredman on Jun 25, 2009 8:43 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Brock will get boards..

Jon Brockman has a motor that never stops..He’s a former Mcdonalds All american UW all time leading rebounder, and in his last two games of the tourney last year DOMINATED Jarivs Varnado, and JaJuan Johnson two 2010 Lottery picks.

Brockmans not a 20 pt. a game guy, but will come in give you everything he has everynight!!!! He’s like a birdman minus the Tats..Sacramento is getting a big time under the radar guy.

by UWdawg2002 on Jun 25, 2009 8:51 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

birdmans specialty is blocking shots and defense....

two areas brockman will have a problem with at the NBA level

But I fear your purple Montlake bias is getting the way.

come on 38th pick

really! come on. they picked 2 shooters (G) position already. traded for another G in sergio. so a 38th pick out of 60 picks is a PF that is a rebounder, hustle guy.

this draft was a guard heavy draft and 16 were picked in the first 1/2 of the draft.
the kings didn’t need another shooter or a SF or G. there were no real C in this draft, so the kings get a plug a hole player that will spell Spencer or J.T. along with Ike.. unless IKE is getting moved.
