Beno for Camby?
I've lost track of where we will be re: the cap after July 1, but the Clips need to get rid of a big to make room for Griffin and lack a competent back-up to Baron (especially with his injury history) and it was widely reported that Dunleavy was going to make an offer to Beno last year. Beno's deal is nearly $6M and Camby's is about $10M with one year left. Think the Clips would do it to cut some money and move Camby?

Thats not a bad idea
but I am not sure if the Clippers would give up an expiring contract for a long term one like Beno’s. But I’d love to see that happen.
No kidding, this would be way way too dumb for the Clipps. WAIT, Dunleavy is their GM! Anything is possible if you can just DREAM IT!
Tell him we'll throw in
One of those hideous suits he likes to wear during games.
That oughta seal the deal.

That's assuming we also renounce all free agents and the MLE
So basically after this trade we’d be left with signing guys at the veteran minimum.
I guess that’s still possible, but really unlikely I think.
My math (using ShamSports)
puts us in the neighborhood of $42M in payroll if we sign the three draft picks and Rodriguez, renounce Ike and Rashad, buy out Mikki and don’t resign any of our free agents. That would give us 12 players. Subtract Beno’s $6M and add Camby’s $9.65M and we’re at $45.65M with 12 players. I don’t know the rules for the MLA, but if my numbers are correct, we’d still have plenty of money to sign a couple of veteran bigs.
I agree that it’s unlikely because Beno’s contract is such an albatross, but like everyone has said – it is the Clippers.
I have it starting at $45 million (using Hoopshype and others)
Which would put it closer to $48-$49 after signing Evans and possible $53M after the trade. Then it depends on where the cap is.
But yeah, there would still be some room after the trade if it were to go through. Maybe a bit less precariously financially than I initially thought.
It depends on where the cap is
Hoopshype is a terrible source for salary info. Sham currently has the Kings at 45 million in committed salary, but the Kings are likely to only have 6 or so million under the cap after taking on Rodriguez’s salary.
With that all being said, it really all depends on where the salary cap is set.

Doesn't have to if the Kings are under the cap
Which they may be if they so choose.

remember
the Clips were the other team that was purported to be after Beno last summer. So it’s a possibility.
additionally,
our 2010 cap situation would be great (unless both camby and k-9 were moved this season at the deadline).

Clippers PG
Didn’t they trade for a PG some guy called Davis is Brian, Brad or something like that. Oh yeh Baron. So the Clippers would be paying 16-17 mill a year to have there point guard situation covered. Dunlevy is awful but he isn’t that crazy
as opposed to...
about $40M for three centers/4 and no minutes for their first round pick? (Camby,Kaman,Randolph).

Not Beno, but Nocioni
Salaries are better and it’s a fairer trade.

Depth
We got Garcia, Greene, and Caspi now. Wouldn’t be about depth, more about experience and quality
Nocioni and Beno for Zach Randolph might be the only plausible deal
For the Clips.
The Kings may need to throw in another player or two.
BOOK IT!
They would have to throw in Mike Taylor
for me to even consider that.

Well the trade gives playing time to both Greene and Casspi
And I see that as a super positive

Garcia can play there, too
Maybe even Evans in some sets

nope, too much money to the clips
my post assumes the clips want to save some $ next year… you’d have to add another player from clips coming back.

I'd go after Gortat
Does Orlando have the $$ anymore after taking on Vince?
probably not, he’s going somewhere. My poor man’s Blake Griffin.

unlikely...
we don’t have enough cap room for someone like him (without other moves) as compared to a team like OKC, Det. or even Memphis.
by longtimelistenerfirsttimecaller on Jun 26, 2009 2:48 PM PDT up reply actions
He's a MLE guy or slightly higher.
OKC added Mullens in the draft and they seem to be happy with the recovery of Krstic. They should be more in the market for a power forward- Brandon Bass type.
Detroit is going to spend all their time chasing the big boys- Boozer, Mario, Odom, Hedo- they might get to Gortat but it will be a while.
Memphis just brought in Thabeet, a center to play along side Gasol, another center. They also have a 7’-2" Hamed Haddadi, another young center. The Grizz have a lot of holes to fill and a lot of cash to spend, I don’t see yet another Orlando back-up center signing here to compete for minutes. Look for a money grubbing big name power forward to land here and then regret it the next day.
If Gortat is the target as rumored, look for the Kings to go at him hard on day one. The lack of high post game is a little scary but another tough guy to kick the shit out of people in the post is very intriguing.

I think we will end up with Taylor Gortat

The Clippers Scenario....adjusted
Camby+Skinner for
Nocioni + Udrih + #1 pick (somehow protected, top 3 maybe?)
This deal could actually make sense.
Looking at it from LA’s side, they’d like to move Camby now that they have Kaman and Griffin but want some kind of return also. They were interested in Beno last offseason (although likely less interested after his less-than-productive year). Packaging Beno and Nocioni for Camby gives them return and depth, but also adds four years of contracts for each. This is likely the deal breaker unless sweetening the pot with a draft pick or two sways them……this makes sense.
Sac gets a very good center/shot blocker for this season anyway, gets Skinner as a salary match (likely would be released), and most importantly some serious cap space after this season. They’d have Camby and K9’s contracts coming off the books, with no Nocioni/Beno contracts weighing them down. The Kings either use the salary space after the season or trade the expiring contracts if an irresistible deal comes along.
Maybe 10 years ago but come on.
Camby is an old man. The Kings aren’t giving up a 1st round pick for a pair of mid-thirties big men.
"Or, as Randy Jackson would say: Not feelin’ it, dawg."

I like it a lot...
…but it would have to be a lottery protected #1 or at least a top 10 protected pick. I don’t know if the Clips would go for it, but if they plan to move Baron, it would make a lot of sense. Also, Beno seems to play well against the Clips, so they might have a distorted view of his abilities.
any deal with Beno
must include our biggest expiring contract, at the very least. and we all know who that is…
Phil Jackson, after treatment for a kidney stone "When the anesthesiologist leaned over me, he said "We named your kidney stone Kobe because it's not passing."
Fat chance
LAC goes for that one. Camby has one more year, and he’s good. Beno has four more years, and he’s a fat bloated tart with a big ass.
Sorry, Monty Python digression there. I don’t hate Beno. But the Clippers can do WAY better than that for Camby.

Keep Beno
Kings-
Marcus Camby
DeAndre jordan
Clippers-
Kenny Thomas
Sergio Rodriguez
The salaries match up, and they get a two expiring contracts plus its frees up playing time for Blake Griffen
KINGS WILL BE 09-10 CHAMPIONS
Beno 4 Camby straight up
Beno will make 6 mill this year; Camby 7.65 mill
Easy switch, but Dunleavey says he wants to keep Camby… we’ll see
That was the trade suggested
in the beginning post

That Ziller’s interview on Carmichael Dave had the unintended side effect of flooding StR with newcomers who don’t hesitate to publish meaningless Fan Posts or clog the comment streams with vacuous yammer.

Yeah
At the same time, I think the draft is what really does it. That, and you can link to StR from all the major blogs out there that the majority of lesser fans can find without much trouble (Sac Bee, TrueHoop, Ball Don’t Lie).
